His Chosen Luna

1500 Words
“The time for the Alpha to find and choose his Luna is long due. Do you not think so, too, Alpha Lucas?“ Elder Patrick announced, eyeing the silently sitting Alpha by the other end of the long table. Small mutters of agreement from other Elder werewolves on the circle echoed inside the hall. Lucas's two advisors also seconded the motion. And Alexander turned to him as if trying to dictate him the answer he knew he'd never pick. “Stop rushing things. It is not yours, but my own discretion if I want to mate with someone or not,” Lucas grunted a tad louder than necessary, startling Alexander by his side and nearly scaring off the old man who spoke, “If that answer is already clear enough for your hollowed heads, I then call this meeting adjourned.” The pack's elders stood up one by one, shaking their heads as they marched towards the pack house's exit. Not a minute later, the hall is isolated, with only the Alpha and his Beta remaining. “Lucas,” Alexander started off with a serious tone. “A confrontation will not convince me to do otherwise, Alex,” the Alpha replied almost instantly, “You still got a job to do, now leave.” Time surely does fly. It has been a month since Emily left Howling Tribe and decided to wander off as a rogue again. It wouldn't take a close relationship with the Alpha to review the evidence that he has changed. Lucas has been grumpier like never before, much to the pack's delight. The initially carefree and slightly cheerful Alpha turned as strict as possible, hardly shaken by the same complaints he used to kindly handle and calmly resolve in the past. His demeanor has widely intervened with his attitude towards the pack. The rage he felt ever since they wished for Emily's banishment from Howling Tribe has doubled as time went by. However harshly they were treated, though, nobody could disobey Lucas's commands nor refuse his orders. After all, he is still the pack's Alpha and he has control over the territory they are currently in. And they cannot deny that Lucas's decisions were for the betterment of the pack, too. Only he could lead them to living a prosperous life. Besides, Lucas's ancestors have done it multiple times already. Leadership runs in his veins, present in his blood and flesh. And now, Howling Tribe is as best as it could be, one of the most feared packs in the werewolf society, of high status, strong. “I am fond of your attitude than anyone else, Alpha,” Alexander replied, remaining sat instead of walking away like everybody else did. “And I know exactly what you have stored in mind.” “Emily is just a poor and weak omega. She was a rogue, too—” Alexander added, “I know what's going on between you and that girl. Alpha Lucas, you can't choose her to be your Luna. Remember that you are the legacy of your father, the beloved son of your mother. And they will want what's best for you. There are many more beautiful omegas in the pack, or powerful female alphas from other nearby territories. They will be glad to be your covenant, your pair. Why would you... settle for less and actually think Emily can fulfill the role of being Howling Tribe pack's Luna?” Alexander's face displayed an annoyed smirk, one that tells Lucas he is seriously pissed about the idea— although it didn't directly come out of the Alpha's mouth. Lucas gritted his teeth in equal irritation. How dare Alexander Hitsch belittle Emily like that in front of him? Do not get him wrong, he knows where his best friend is coming from. If Emily was somebody else and not the girl he loves the most, he surely would admit that Alexander was right and he was only being foolish. However, it was not the case. Nobody could speak on Emily. Not until he is still alive and breathing. If anyone would know Emily and every beautiful thing about her, it would be Lucas for he had seen it a lot of times already. Emily is not only intelligent, witty, resourceful. She is not only beautiful and sexy, a woman any man would swoon over with. She is not a damsel in distress, instead she saves herself. She is strong and independent, reliable and dependable. “I need no more words slandering Emily Lancaster, Alex,” he hissed under his breath, trying his hardest not to raise his voice and yell at Alexander out of rage, “I want Emily to be the Luna and you will have to deal with it whether you like it or not. Everyone will have to accept Emily. I will not allow the constant disrespect to resonate. If somebody does not like how I decide for Howling Tribe, they are free to leave.” “Lucas, not to blame Emily entirely for it or believe the rumors, but...” Alexander let out a loud sigh, “is it not bothering you? Ever since Emily left a month ago, our operations went back to normal. Light Venom stopped interfering with our hunts. The gold and goods from our barters are arriving just fine in perfect conditions—” “I swear to f*cking god if that being even exists, Alex, just stop talking and leave me alone for now,” Lucas growled loudly, grumpily. “I can guarantee you that it was a set up. I will never believe assumptions and theories saying otherwise. Emily will never do that to harm Howling Tribe, she treats this pack like her home. If anyone knows that woman best, it will be me, not you, not the other pack members. And I have stated my stand, unless there is any evidence presented, Emily is innocent.” “She must have brainwashed you. You are a goner, Lucas. Do not let her be your weakness, or you will not stand a chance to anyone who challenges your position. You will soon fall," Alexander shook his head in utter disappointment. “Take that back,” Lucas stood up and slammed both of his palms above the table. He once swore to hell that nobody could disrespect Emily in front of him again, even his own best friend and Beta. That he would not let anybody accuse her of things she didn't do at all. At least without him making sure they pay the price of it and directly be a part of those to blame for the way Emily ended up running away from him. “And it I do not? What will you do then, Alpha?” “I will make sure of your demise. Yes, even you, Alex. Do not provoke me from being exactly the way you would hate for eternity,” the Alpha growled in authority. Without waiting for Alex's response, Lucas walked away before he could jump at Alex and use brute force to make his Beta adhere to his wishes. Ever since that argument, the changes in Alexander Histch started showing in full display in front of Lucas, or even in front of their pack members. And the realization hit Lucas like a speedy raging bull. It was an unpredictable outcome of their last fight. First and last, ever, he thought. Well, there has been arguments between them from time to time. But they have never broken up as farther as this recent fight. They used to be best friends since childhood. They have always agreed to everything and never argued on a single stupid thing, thus the closeness and bond they have. They were each other's shield and protector, the brother they never had while growing up. Alexander, as the one who's older, has swore to always be by Lucas's side. And he did. He was there even before Lucas became Howling Tribe pack's Alpha. He was there when Lucas's mother died, and when his father passed away after a few years. He has always been there to guide Lucas and give him advices and words of encouragement. But now, everything has fallen apart. Alexander is still the pack's Beta, he still follows orders from the pack's Alpha and extends some himself to lower ranking members. However, Alexander seems more... distant. Giving Lucas cold shoulders and emotionless stares. Just the way he never did before. The encouraging words and motivating takes the Beta used to constantly tell the Alpha has disappeared, gone, as if it never even happened. Now, Lucas only has himself to rely on during fairly difficult and chaotic times. Very unfortunate phenomena, but he just lost his best friend shortly after losing the love of his life. But if Alexander's mindset and attitude towards an innocent woman such as Emily is like that, then Lucas is not at a loss. At least he knows that.
