AMARA
“Mate” I stood there, and that was the only word that came out of my mouth. I couldn’t believe it Brian Crassus is my mate. My childhood friend and now my destined mate. Moon Goddess, I love you. My happiness was off the roof, completely inhaling Brian’s scent was pure bliss, even Taryn purred and howled in happiness that we finally found our soulmate.
Usually, when wolves discover their mates, they waste no time in sucking each other’s faces out or just share a passionate kiss to confirm that they have accepted their soulmate wholeheartedly, just to say at least from what I’ve seen here in Yellow Moon, both mates wasted no time in making each other their own, but for me and Brian, it was different. We just stood there staring at each other like there’s no tomorrow, it’s as if nothing has happened. The air was so thick in anticipation. After who knows how long we have been staring at each other, Brian moved but to my disappointment, he shook his head like he had done something wrong and turned his back on me, I could hear Taryn whimper. Watching him turn his back on me left me in dismay, I looked down my feet contemplating what I could’ve done wrong. Why?
He finally faced me once more and I saw his troubled face. Before I could even ask what happened, I was met with heartbreaking words.
“I, Brian Crassus, Alpha of the Darkmoon pack, hereby reject you, Amara Layla Smith, as my mate.” My whole world shattered at an instant, my mate rejected me. I couldn't help but stand in utter shock and silence. My body felt so numb, it also felt so heavy like I was lifting a ton of rocks, I felt so defeated. A minute took like forever to muster up the last ounce of dignity and strength that I had to look at him dead straight in the eyes and say…
“I, Amara Layla Smith, daughter of Liam and Martine Smith of the Yellow Moon Pack, hereby accept your rejection,” I said with lips shaking but never faltered.
Brian looked at me in the eyes with shock and sadness, I knew he felt the pain. The mate bond that once was there was severed. I could feel tears build up my eyes, I didn’t want to stay there any longer so I turned my back on him and ran back to the packhouse and let stray tears fall as I felt the cold wind brush my cheeks. I didn’t bother to look back at him.
Once I reached the entrance of our home, I tried my best to compose myself and not let anyone notice that I was about to explode. I took deep breaths and wiped my cheeks and slowly entered the packhouse, thankfully there was no one there so I hurriedly walked inside and tried to go to my room as fast as I can get there. I lost my appetite and didn’t want to eat dinner anymore, I just wanted to be alone, so I put my mind link block on. I finally closed the door and made sure to lock it before I crashed onto the bed and let myself drown in my own tears. I could even hear Taryn howling painfully at the back of my mind, we both lost our mate tonight. It hurt like s**t; I don’t know if I could ever spend another day outside my bedroom. All of my emotions are all around the place, nothing has ever prepared me from being rejected, all I knew is that if a mate rejects you, it’s the same feeling when you lost somebody special in your life or your mate himself/herself dies but it doesn’t feel like that at all, it’s much worse; so much worse.
“Taryn, I am so sorry for what happened.” I tried to talk to her to make her feel better but it was no use, she didn’t respond. In a short span of time, we just found our mate and got rejected, it was too much for her. For the both of us. She just continued whining; I could even hear her huffing, she was also crying.
After crying for almost too long, my eyes finally gave out. I still wanted to cry, but I felt there were no more tears coming out, but I was hiccing. I finally closed my eyes, until not long heard a knock on my bedroom door. I just ignored it and continued to shut my eyes.
“Ame? Are you there?” a familiar voice called me.
“Ame? Hey?” It was my brother Nikolai.

NIKOLAI
I was finally done taking care of another project of the family’s business in Detroit. In short, our family is a popular architecture company and we were hired to design a very prestigious building from one of our clients. Since the day I transitioned into the Alpha of the Yellow Moon pack, it was already my job to take on the family business and that includes not staying home most of the time, which made me so homesick often. The only time that I could ever go back home is that when I finish a client’s project, and that often takes months to finish so my father and I agreed that he will watch over Yellow Moon while I take care of the work.
It was already around seven in the evening when I finally arrived at the packhouse. Going home is always exciting for me since there could be a chance that I could meet my mate, but my poor unfortunate soul hasn’t even met one yet. Maybe the Moon Goddess forgot about me.
Right as I entered the packhouse, my mother engulfed me in the tightest hug.
“Nikko! You’re home! It’s so wonderful to finally have you back here again.” she said with a big smile on her face.
“Goddess Martine, he’s already 22 and a grown man let your son go.” my father told my mother who was still giving me motherly hugs. “Nikko, you’re here early. How was everything at Detroit?” My father asked.
“Well, we just finished another project and it really didn’t take that long to finish. The team managed to pull it off.” I told them as I put my bags down and looked over and under unable to find my little sister.
“Where’s Ame? It’s a surprise that she isn’t here with you.”
“We have been trying to mind link her but I believe she has a block on. I’m a little worried since she didn’t join us for dinner as well but I can smell her scent in the packhouse, she must be nearby or maybe she’s just in her room.” My mother said.
“She just had her first day of training and your mother made her help in redecorating the house. She must be tired.” My father added.
Ame was already eighteen when I left the packhouse for the business trip in Detroit but I didn’t miss her first shifting with her wolf Taryn. Slade even took her out for a run. He was happy to be with his little sister in the Yellow Moon forest. She was always a sweet sister, although we have some sibling rivalry going on, we just laugh it off after a few seconds. Why wasn’t she downstairs?
I excused myself to my mother and father, I told them that I wanted to get my things sorted in my room which is just right beside Amara’s. Right when I passed by her room, I heard a faint hick from inside her room. So, I stopped and knocked on her door.
“Ame? Are you there?” No answer. I know she’s in there.
“Ame? Hey?” I asked again but nothing.
I went downstairs and asked one of the Omegas for the spare keys to both mine and Amara’s room. I came back up and knocked again.
“I’m coming in,” I said as I unlocked her door. Right when I opened it, I saw my little sister all curled up in a ball underneath her sheets. She was crying.
“Hey Amara, what happened to you?” I lightly caressed her back and worriedly ask her what’s wrong. She turned to me with red and puffy eyes, I swear whoever made her cry I will rip their throat out.
“I got rejected” She softly tells me and I got surprised. She finally found her mate but rejected her?! My eyes turned black as Slade growled.
“Who was it, Ame?” I asked her but she didn’t respond. I didn’t push her anymore, I just lulled her to sleep. After a while, she finally closed her eyes and stopped hiccing, and drifted to dreamland.
Seeing my little sister in pain because her mate rejected her made my wolf Slade almost lose it, he wanted to find the fucker and end his life then and there. Luckily, I controlled him and let our little sister sleep for the rest of the night but to the stupid guy that rejected her, he will have his face beaten to a pulp, I’ll be full-on Alpha mode.
