CHAPTER VI

AMARA

“Hey Amara, what happened to you?” I felt Nikolai sitting beside me on the bed slowly caressing my back. He was rarely home, having my brother here was good timing, his presence made me feel slightly warm.

“I got rejected,” I tell my brother softly while facing him.

“Who was it Ame?” he asked but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him the name of the person, just thinking about Brian feels like my heart was stabbed with multiple stakes. I shrugged at my brother and close my eyes to him; he didn’t ask any more questions, he didn’t push me further to tell me who it was, he just kept lulling me. Just having Nikolai next to me was comforting and I wanted to sleep. I curled myself up into a ball underneath my sheets the whole night.

Waking up the next morning was dreadful, I still had puffy eyes from crying so much yesterday and I had a little headache. I was lucky that my father was busy during the weekends handling pack work so we don’t have training today. I got up from bed and hung my feet on the edge, I still couldn’t get over what happened yesterday. My mate rejected me, Taryn and I have been rejected right then and there. I felt all the emotions rushing back to me again and I could feel my tears falling from my eyes. Goddess, it’s still too early in the morning to cry so I grabbed my blanket and wiped down the tears from my eyes.

“Taryn? You there?” I tried to talk to my wolf one more time, I didn’t hear anything from her since last night. She was heartbroken too.

“Ame, I’m here.” She finally answers.

“How are you holding up?”

“Not really good, same as what you also feel. I didn’t expect what happened yesterday, we met and got rejected by our mate just like that.”

“Yeah, I feel like shit.”

“We both feel like s**t Ame, maybe mother Goddess has a reason why our mate rejected us.”

“Second chances rarely happen Taryn,” I tell her.

“I know it does, but I trust mother on this one. It felt like torture last night but I know that if she gives us a second chance, it’ll be so worth it.”

“I guess you’re right Taryn,” I told her with a tiny smile on my face, I admire my wolf’s persistence, even though that we went through the toughest situation last night, hell she was even crying and howling in pain; and now here she is believing that there will be something better for us. I guess sharing a body and soul with another being has its perks. I thought as I heard my stomach rumble.

“I guess something better is waiting for us in the kitchen,” Taryn told me she sensed that I am hungry; we are both hungry. I skipped dinner last night, so we are running on empty today.

“Who knew being rejected would make us famished” Both my wolf and I chuckle at my response. I slowly slid myself from my bed, went to the shower, and had a warm bath; it felt like it washed away all the painful events that just happened last night. I took my favorite body wash the smelled like fresh patchouli flowers and vanilla and rubbed it all over my body as I replayed in my mind the words that Brian left me that stung my heart.

“I, Brian Crassus, Alpha of the Darkmoon pack, hereby reject you, Amara Layla Smith, as my mate.” Why did he do that to me? Among all of the wolves that I could’ve ended with, it had to be Brian, and he had to reject me. What made him do it to me?

“That’s enough thinking love, you’re wasting water,” Taryn told me as I noticed that I was spacing out in the bath.

“Oh, s**t you’re right.” I hurriedly shut off the shower, went out of the bath, and dried myself off with my fluffy towel. I put on my rose-scented lotion and got dressed. I put on a baggy yellow shirt with a hello kitty print on the chest part and put on above the knee shorts. As soon as I finished drying my long hair, I took a yellow scrunchie and placed my hair up into a messy bun. I love wearing comfy clothes.

“Ame, stop thinking about what happened last night and focus on today, I got a good feeling that it’s going to be surprising,” Taryn told me enthusiastically.

“What’s with your energy today? It’s as if last night didn’t even happen to you, Taryn.”

“It’s pointless to keep on repeating what happened, we got rejected. That’s that because I strongly feel that some great is going to happen. Now, go downstairs and eat. We’re hungry.” Damn, Taryn is one special wolf.

When I got to the kitchen, I saw my mother and Mrs. Rose preparing breakfast for the pack.

“Ame sweetie! Good morning! Your brother told me that you just slept in your room last night. Are you okay?” Thank Goddess my brother didn’t tell mom about last night. I need to talk to him last about this, I don’t want mom and dad to worry about me being rejected.

“I guess I was just tired yesterday, it was a long day.” I vaguely told my mom.

“I see, I understand sweetie maybe the training and letting you help around the house was too much for you yesterday.”

“No, it wasn’t really. I was just really tired somehow but Mom I’m really fine.” I sat down at the table and slowly helped myself with some pancakes, strawberry jelly, and bacon.

“SHHHHHEEEESSSHH! These are bussin mom! s**t, they’re so good!” I moaned as I took a bite from the warm pancakes.

“It’s just pancakes sweetie.” She chuckled.

“Luna, maybe because she’s hungry that’s why she found it so delicious.” Mrs. Rose added as she was slowly cleaning some utensils. I just continued eating with cheeks full of pancakes and bacon.

“By the way Mom, where’s Nikolai?” I asked after I swallowed the lump of goodness down my throat.

“I think he’s at his office with your dad discussing about the territory, why?” My mother replied as she sat down beside me.

“Oh, I just wanted to welcome him home. He’s rarely here.” I told my mother, I just wanted to talk to him about what happened.

“Well, then. After you finish meeting him, come to me and your father’s room, okay?” My mom said as she kissed my cheeks while I was eating.

After I finished eating, I excused myself from the kitchen and went to my brother's office. My stomach was so full when I got up from the table, I ate 4 pancakes and 5 strips of bacon. It definitely hit the spot. When got to my brother’s office, I knocked on the door and slowly let myself in.

“Heeey” I popped my head behind the door. Luckily dad wasn’t around so I had the opportunity to talk with Nikolai privately.

“Oh, hey Ame. Come in and sit.” Not long after I sat down on the chair my brother’s face changed from being serious to concerned.

“How are you doing Ame? You were crying so much yesterday, you told me someone rejected you. I figured I didn’t tell mom or dad anything yet since I wanted to make sure from you.” He said as he patted my head.

“Yeah, I’m doing better now and yes, I got rejected yesterday. That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about, I think it would be best that they don’t know about my rejection.”

“Why?”

“I don’t want to make them worry, and I also don’t want any stress. What’s done is done.” I told my brother as he sat beside me.

“I got you. You don’t have to worry about that.” He said with a reassuring smile and once more patted my head.

“Don’t you want to ask who it was?” I asked him.

“About who rejected you? No, Ame.” He told me as he pinched my cheeks.

“Why though?” I tilt my head.

“I and Slade just might want to find and haul him to death.” He told me, as his eyes glazed into darkness but then he just laughed it off. “Just kidding.”

“You b***h! I thought you were serious.” I pouted

“HAHAHAHAHAHA It’s up to you if you tell me or not. I don’t want to force you. You’re already a lady, though, I wouldn’t mind knowing who it is.” He said jokingly.

“Then no, I won’t say a name. Just keep this between us, okay?” I pleaded Nikko with puppy eyes.

“Sure, whatever makes you happy Ame. Please don’t use those eyes on me, with or without them I always get to do whatever you want hahaha” We laughed as I pulled my brother into the tightest hug, I didn’t get to welcome him when he got home.

After the talk with my brother, I was relieved that he didn’t bother to ask the name of who rejected me. He respected my decision that we both keep it to ourselves for the time being. I remembered that my mother wanted me to go to her office after I talk with my brother. When I arrived at her office, I gently knocked on the door and went inside.

“Hey, sweetie!” My mother said as she was writing something on a piece of paper. “Let’s go do something today, it already been a while since we had a mother and daughter bonding time, let’s go pick out something to wear for Alpha Kyle’s birthday celebration tomorrow?”

“Ahh parties, you know I don’t like dressing up and going to parties mom,” I told her but I also want to avoid going there with the possibility that Brian would be there because I know every pack is invited.

“Oh! don’t be silly, we got invited to go to Silverhide to celebrate Alpha Kyle’s belated birthday. You know it’s bad to turn down an invitation.” My mother said with the same puppy eyes I just used to Nikolai earlier, Goddess I got that from her as well.

“Fine, let’s go. It’s also been a while since I went out of the house” I knew this was going to be an interesting day.
