Chapter 1
Princess Karina had been adopted by the royal family of Hopeian, the Vaughn’s. She had been living with the royal family since the age of 3 when she had been found by the kings hunting party. He had decided to bring her home and said there must be some use for her.
She had lived in the palace for the past 15 years. It was the only home she had ever known. Even if she didn’t feel as though she belonged, it was still home. Now she was preparing to go to a new home. To a new family. She wiped away a few tears. She looked around her small room, making sure she had everything that was hers.
There was a knock at the door - it was time
“You may enter,” she said as she turned to face the door.
A servant entered her room and looked at the luggage by her feet.
“Highness, The car is ready to take you to Solanador,” he said as he motioned for a few servants that were standing in the hall to come in and carry her bags out.
“Is my family out there?” Karina asked as she slipped on her Louis Vuitton jacket. She watched as the servant’s face fell.
“No ma’am...um...they left to vacation in Paris. They left last night,” he said, obviously looking terrible for telling her.
She knew they wouldn’t be traveling with her to Solanador, but she thought they would at least say goodbye to her. Then she laughed to herself. She shouldn’t be surprised. She knew the only reason they kept her around was to marry her off and increase their money.
She smiled at the servant.
“It’s ok. Let’s go,” Karina said as she walked out of her bedroom, through the castle, and out the front door to the waiting car.
The car ride to Solanador went quickly. She had fallen asleep for most of the drive. When she awoke, the vehicle was driving through gates into a forest. She saw the castle approaching, and servants came out of the door when they came to a stop. She felt nervous, and a waiting servant opened the door.
“Welcome, Princess Karina,” the servant bowed as Karina stepped out and walked towards the steps that led to the castle’s entrance. Servants opened the doors and led her into the palace that would be her home. It was this way.
A maid led her into the salon. Standing there near the fireplace was an older gentleman with silver hair and brown eyes. Sitting on a cream-colored sofa was a beautiful woman with blonde hair and green eyes. They seemed to have been talking when she entered the room, and as the door opened, letting Karina in their eyes turned to her.
“King Jeremy, Queen Clarice, may I introduce to you Princess Karina,” the servant said, bowing and stepping back. Clapping her hands, the queen jumped up and walked to her, and she curtsied.
“Oh Jeremy, look at her, she is lovely,” queen Clarice said, wrapping Karina in a hug. She stiffened at the display of emotion. Back in Hopeian, she was never shown any affection. Never a hug. Nothing.
The queen must have noticed her stiffening and pulled back, giving her a confused look.
She felt nervous and just wanted to go to her room. She noticed that the king had not said anything to her but watched her like something about her bothered him.
“Let’s get you to your room so you can rest, my dear. Tomorrow is a big day for you. And for my son, Zakariah.” the queen said as she stood inside a room that had been fixed up for her. She thought to herself, wondering what her soon to be husband would look like. What he would be like. Would they get along?
“Thank you, highness,” Karina said, sitting on the bed.
Queen Clarice walked to the door she turned back to her “something is so familiar about you I can’t place my finger on it. Dinner is served promptly at 7. If you need anything our servants will be glad to help you”.
The door closed behind her, and Karina laid down on the bed. She hoped that this new life, this new adventure, would be better than the past 15 years of her life.
