You know, I wasn’t always the outcast. I had a good amount of friends growing up, that was until seventh grade. After that, my friends slowly dwindled away. Whispers and snickers while walking through the halls passing my classmates, “it’s a good thing Delaney will never be fit to be of royalty,” “Look at her! She’d only be best at being a servant to the king and queen!”

That all stopped when the announcement day came for the contest to choose who will be the one to win over the prince’s heart and join him in taking the heir to the throne.

Because out of all people, Prince Elliott chose me. And I wasn’t even a participant in the contest.

Prologue
Present “Do you know why, out of everyone in this school, that I chose you, Delaney Everett?” He looked at me endearingly. “No, I do not, your highness,” I mumbled, shifting my gaze to my hands. “Well that is because of one pretty obvious reason,” he paused, scooting closer to me and bringing his voice to a whisper, “because you’re a werewolf..” I jumped, my eyes darting to his, my body beginning to shake with terror. “How—“ “I don’t have much time to explain, but I will try my best to on the way. We have to go right now or else everything will fall apart!” Prince Elliott responded, reaching out for me to take his hand and follow him. I hesitantly take his outstretched hand in mine, and let him lead me out of the school from the back of the auditorium. PAST (2009) I can’t believe I’m gonna start first grade today!! I can’t wait to see Jenn, my bestest friend ever! I wish I was able to see her during summer, but mommy and daddy didn’t want me to see her or anyone. I ran inside to find Jenn, and saw her opening her locker. I think she heard my footsteps because she turned around with a big toothy grin and opened her arms. I ran up to her and gave her a big hug. “Hi Jenn! I missed you so much!!” “I missed you too Laney, how was your summer?” I didn’t like that nickname, but I let her call me that because I loved her so much. “My mommy and daddy didn’t let me have any friends visit so I was sad. But I’m happy now that I saw you!” I said with a shy smile. “I’m sorry they wouldn’t let you! They sound so mean!” I looked down at my hands, “No it’s okay they really love me. Who’s your teacher? I have Mrs. Darcy!” “Really? I have her too!” Jenn smiled and chuckled. We linked arms and skipped into Mrs. Darcy’s class, sitting next to each other just like last year.
