“This is the best lead we have so far about this cases, we are going to have to compare all the tire marks and see where that takes us,” Hackman said.
“Did you find anything in the house other than the computer?” Detective White asked.
“Nothing useful; it’s getting late the agents are getting tired, they have been staring at the same stuff for hours their vision is going to start to fog, and they will miss details, and that’s when mistakes happen; we are going to resume the search in the morning when everybody is more alert. I gave them an order to bag and tag everything that could help. I also told them to run a search on the names I found on the computer, but that will take some time. They are also checking the blood on the ball.”
“Make sure to take photos of these tracks and check them to see if we get a match on a vehicle or vehicles,” Detective White said.
“I will make someone do it before I head out. Here is my card just in case you need anything, Goodnight, Detective White, don't stay here too late.”
“I will stay a little longer to see what else I can find,” she replied.
The detective waves at her, as he said goodbye. He got in his car and drove away in the other direction where he came from. The last agent finished taking the pictures of the tire marks and then left. At this point, everyone left and she was the only one at the scene.
She went into her car and grabbed her cellphone in case of emergency, and a few bags and gloves in case she found something that she wanted to pick up.
It was almost 10:30 when she was walking in the vicinity of the crime scenes again. In her mind, she was trying to put the pieces together.
Why would someone do this? Two crimes in the same area this is odd. A kid named Billie called saying that he saw something terrible. Maybe the kid saw the person put the bodies in the tunnel, and that’s why he was taken. All these thoughts were going through her head.
The detective started making her way towards the tunnel again, this time she had a light and her cellphone just in case she finds something. She was thinking since the body had been dead for 24-36 hours the killer didn’t dump the bodies too long before the cops arrived to answer the kid's call.
If Billie saw the killers dumping the bodies and the killers saw Billie, that means they could have gotten nervous and left something behind. You can’t be so calm when you are dumping bodies, she thought.
She turned on her flashlight and entered the tunnel. She started measuring the length of the tunnel using her steps because she didn’t have a ruler. She counted about 60 paces from one side to the other. She did the same again and then added both numbers and divided them by 2. Her average pace was 60 which meant the length of the tunnel was about 100meters. It takes an adult between 60 and 64 paces to walk 100 meters.
After that, she started seeing cigarette butts. Someone left them behind, so she started picking them up and putting them in a bag. She also found some chewing tobacco.
This tunnel is so full of garbage that finding who did this is going to be like finding a needle in a haystack, she thought while cleaning her forehead, she was starting to sweat.
There were some condoms, syringes, female underwear, male underwear, and more garbage.
Did the CSIs even bother in checking this area more in-depth? I am going to make them leave this place spotless tomorrow, she kept talking to herself.
She was looking between the trash when she saw something shining light at her from one spot across the tunnel. She moved closer to the object shining light and when she was in front of it, she extended her arm and grabbed it. It was a cellphone in perfect condition. She pressed the side bottom instead of the home button just in case there was a print on it. The screen turned on and the phone automatically opened, the time was 23:00 which is 11:00 in military time. There was one voicemail from an unknown number. She checked the contact list, and nothing popped up, she did the same with the phone records. She then tried to open the photos file, but it was blocked.
She starts to listen to the voicemail:
[I am not going to kill you that is not my style. Instead, I am going to teach you how to be like me. People call me crazy, but I am not crazy. You know what? I am going to teach you a lesson], said the metallic voice on the phone.
[I know you are smarter than that, you were on the phone when I entered your room. So, I want you to be honest with me and I will be transparent with you.]
Voicemail ended...
Detective White tried to call the number on the card that Hackman gave her. The phone made a sound like it was busy.
Hackman pick up the phone dammit! she thought.
She tried calling him once more, but it was useless, he didn’t answer his phone. She checked when that call was made and the time was 9:20. There were so many questions going through her head; Who was the voice on the phone? and most importantly, what was going on?
She got a text message on the phone she found:
[Call +44 349 678 1999.]
She marked the number and pressed dial. The phone started ringing and ringing but no one answered. On the fourth ring, she decided to hang up.
She received another text
[Call again]
She dials again and someone answers but it didn’t say a single word.
“Hello? Who the hell are you and what do you want?” White screamed at the phone while looking at the screen.
“Good evening, Detective where are your manners?” said the metallic voice on the phone.
