Chapter Nineteen Captain Steuben “The best part of my job was the strip searches.” Captain Steuben was one of the most unsettling interviews I conducted. The woman was physically intimidating, taller than many men, thick in the neck, shoulders and arms. She wore hospital restraints during the interview, padded wrist cuffs connected to a chain belt, and ankle cuffs chained to a flush ring securely bolted into the hardwood floor. A supervising nurse was in attendance throughout the interview.
