Jason
I waited for a few minutes longer and just as I had finished paying the bill, I got up to the toilet and walked over to the bathroom; my stomach still rumbling. I need proper food, not the frufru stuff! I near the red bathroom door and look around and see people coming and going around me but didn’t see anyone pay particular attention to me. I edge in and was glad to see another set of doors for the bathroom and briskly walked through and edged open the ladies bathroom.
Fuck!
No-one was in the bathroom and Celine scent had also almost gone. She must have used some god-damned witchy power to change enough about her scent that I didn’t realise she left the bathroom. She already altered her appearance because it wasn’t anyone of the ladies that-s**t! It had to be one of those ladies that came out of the bathroom. It couldn’t have been the one with the kid because I can’t see her be bothered with towing a burden around. The others….I racked my brain as I left the cafe and walked outside in a brisk walk, trying to get a sense of smell when a faint floral scent hit me. I remember that this smell had also walked by me and for a few seconds my wolf also perked up but I ignored it. Could he have been trying to tell me it was Celine?
I ran in the direction that the scent was coming from and to my surprise, saw not just the two females who had passed me earlier but, saw that they were briskly walking past my hotel. I quickened my pace, my wolf finally awakening and growling out his approval. Gotcha Celine! As I got closer, I felt more alert than I had felt in a long time….and aroused! What the hell? I mean sure, I was looking forward to killing the b***h but to get a boner for her? My wolf was sick...maybe I was sick.
I saw the girl up ahead and thought how strong magic was to be able to change someone’s appearance so thoroughly but then again; if it could kill our wolves and keep dead people alive...there’s no telling what else it could do. I really hated witches!
As I got close to her, her scent coiled around me and my brain started to hurt as Tolken seemed to push at some invincible barrier inside of me. That witch must be doing something to him! Just as I got closer to her, I saw her trip backwards, as if slipping on a banana peel. I reached for, hoping to catch her so even if she wasn’t Celine, her friend would have no choice but to stop….unless she did a runner, which I will happily let this b***h fall and go after her.
As she fell, my arms came forward to catch her; my heart thudding so hard in my chest. It must be because I finally have caught Celine! I barely thought that when the blonde fell into my arms and my body caught fire. Her back fell against my front and her bags fell from her grasp. When She felt my arms around her, she opened her eyes and gazed up at me; an electric shock jolted across my body. She heaved a sigh of breath as she realised she hadn’t fallen down and slowly looked my face over, her green eyes seeming to find my face flattering as they darkened, her mouth opening in surprise. As she took in my appearance and a sly glance at my arms, she grabbed my wrist to gain a more stable balance and it was my turn to be surprised…..no not surprised, shocked.
“How is this possible?” I asked, shocked
Sure this wasn’t possible. It couldn’t be! At the back of my brain, I registered that we were suspended in a romantic movie-like scene with her partly in my arms while others walked around us. Time stood still and I was sure, for a moment; so did my heart. I heard her friend call out to her but I couldn’t let her go. I was in denial, I was going crazy!
I heard her ask me what I was talking about and I just couldn’t answer her properly. “How can you be?” I asked her again, my eyes burning with disbelief When she asked me what I meant, I could only answer with one word.
“Mate”
She was my mate!
How? Why? What the hell was going on? I felt Tolken growl in my head; a mix of anger and curiosity but I couldn’t process that! I didn’t want that! I had one purpose and one purpose only, to find Celine, kill her and then go back to my brother. I planned to make sure he was settled and well before going to the grave where my mate and pup were and to end it all. I wasn’t worthy of finding happiness when I snatched my mates and pups happiness by being selfish and pompous.
“Mate? What do you mean?” She asked.
I blinked down at her and cleared my head as I saw a few people stop and look at us as her friend also cautiously approached me. Her friend didn’t have fear in her eyes as one would when encountering a shifter and even the blonde in my arms was looking at me with curiosity although they both did have wary looks. Hhhhmmm I wonder if Kai did something to my wolf and his scent? That kid is freakishly powerful. I mean sure, he is essentially the supreme and future ruler of all shifters but at three; that kid has more power in his tiny pinky than the whole pack combined. The only other person more powerful than Kai was Magnus, the original supreme and even then, not by much. Even his own mother, Sophie, couldn’t do half of the things Kai could.
“Erm, excuse me, but could you let me go? This position is hurting now”
I looked at the blonde and cleared my throat before giving her a smile and slowly righting her so she was standing as her friend started to fuss around her and picked up their fallen shopping bags. I’m sure Kai must have done something to me because my normal wolf scent was powerful enough to let supernaturals know that I was an alpha when I wasn’t masking my scent. The fact that she must be a wolf and not feeling fully threatened means Kai has masked me. Why? What is that kid doing? Thinking?
“Are you ok?” I asked politely
“Yea...yea. Erm, just needing to catch a train and didn’t want to miss it” She stammered.
I was so confused with what was going on. While I normally enjoy various shapes, sizes and type of women; looking at her blonde hair, green eyes and toned body; she wasn’t my usual type. Well when one has a mate, I guess they become your ty - NO! What the f**k was I thinking! My mate was dead and buried, away from here because I sent her to her death. This female - is a mistake
“Right...so are you needing to go urgently? Or can I share a coffee with you since I did essentially save your life” I joked
I was curious. She didn’t smell like Celine but the fact that my wolf perked up at her scent could mean it is Celine but she has hidden her scent and appearance.
“Well...I...uh” She stammered
“Anna” Her friend urgently whispered “We have to get going...remember!”
Anna. Her name suited her. SHUT UP! I scolded my brain as I tried to appear more non-threatening and tried to encourage her to touch me again as I picked up the last shopping bag from the floor and handed it to her. Our fingers brushed each other and I felt the eclectic volt once again and gritted my teeth against the sensation. I heard her gasp and knew she had felt it to and deep inside somewhere, my wolf howled in appreciation.
“Yea, Uh sorry but - “ Anna started
But I couldn’t leave it like that. Something was going on here. I was no longer agitated yet I felt that I was in the right place with the right person. Could she have something to do with Celine even if she wasn’t Celine? Kai wouldn’t take my feeling of hate from me for Celine….right? I mean, the kid is smart. He knows how important this is to me. SO she must be someone I need to follow. Maybe Celine is back at their hotel!
“Come on. Just one coffee?” I asked, encouraging her.
“Well..uh” Anna stammered
“Anna!” Her friend said, trying to come between us.
I extended my right hand out and tried to play it cool, more like a friend and smiled at both of them
“Name’s Jason”
“Oh, hi” Anna smiled “I’m Anna and that’s Tara”
“Anna!” Tara hissed “Don’t just give a random stranger our names!”
I saw Anna blush and for some reason I felt bad for her, knowing that I had to soothe her friends’ ruffles a lot more.
“Safety first, but let’s be honest. Half of the city has seen me and no doubt recorded me on their phones when I helped you and we stood there like something out of a romance movie. I’m sure if you so much as got a scratch after this and I was to blame; every single one of them would be able to show the police who I am or give my description and assume I did something” I joked, my heart beating fast; knowing I couldn’t let them go
I know their my ticket to Celine. Somehow, some way; these girls know or mingle with her. I can’t just let them go without somehow going with them. Three years! Three god-damned years and this is my first lead. I’m sure I smelled Celines scent in that bathroom and it still lingered there after the girls came out. It’s possible Celine left or magiked herself away...but she had been there. My nose couldn’t have lied. When I saw Anna bite her lip and look at her friend, I knew I could push it to my advantage
“One tiny coffee with the most amazing cake at that patisserie there” I say pointing back down to where my hotel was and the smart looking cafe sign “And I promise that it. I mean, I can’t let you go without making sure you won’t fall again and that you have enough sugar in case that’s what caused the fall...right?”
“Y...yes. I mean, I wouldn’t mind maybe a coffee since we didn’t have any and we were supposed to” Anna said, her eyes darting to her friends
“Anna!” Tara hissed before whispering to her friend.
I knew Tara could spoil this for me but I had to play it cool. As they spoke and looked at their phone, I pretended not to listen as I tried to think of plan B and how I would follow them. Now that they had seen me, they would know if I was around them and it didn’t help that people must have also taken my picture so if the girls screamed, someone would help them and report me.
“Ok” Anna said “I could do with a coffee but really, we have to go. We need to catch a train to belfast”
“Hey!” I said, acting surprised “Same here! I was checking out tomorrow and driving there”
“You were?” Tara asked in suspicion
“Sure” I lied “Look, please have a coffee with me. I’m starting to look kinda pathetic begging you for some time. But I promise that you will love the chocolate torte at this place which does amazing coffee and that I’m not some crazy person. I’ll even let you speak to my parents if you want...hell my nephew Kai. He’s three but a good judge of character”
“At three huh?” Anna smiled with amusement
“Oh yeah! That kid has no filter and is smart!” I say. Goddess, I really hope she doesn’t say she wants to speak to my parents since they’re dead.
When I saw Anna and Tara exchange an unsure look, I felt desperate but I knew I couldn’t just force her without it being suspicious or reported. Sighing, I gave her a fake unsure smile before putting my hands up in a surrendering gesture
“Don’t worry about it. I get that I’m a stranger. It just would have been nice to uh...well. Anyways, hope you catch the train” I say before smiling once again and turning around.
I was bluffing. If they walked away now, I would be going backwards after finally making some sort of progress after three years of searching. I can feel it. These two are going to take me to Celine. I must have only taken ten steps, praying really strongly to the moon goddess that they also come; when I hear a shout and turn to see the girls walking my way. Tara ever so reluctantly and Anna, blushing as she gets closer to me
“Hey” I smile back
“Uh...so about that amazing cake” Anna said shyly, her blonde hair falling over her eyes.
I smiled and nodded, and silently indicated that they follow me. My heart had felt a twinge when her hair had fallen over her eyes and when she pushed it away from her face, I almost felt like I saw a different insecure female instead of the confident lady with the blonde hair and good looks who no doubt had a lot of guys after. That thought made me feel angry that so many guys were no doubt after her and unknowingly, a growl escaped my lips. I saw the girls blink and look around, as if looking for some sort of dog and I quickly cleared my throat
“So...what’s in Belfast? I mean for you guys; or is it just a girls trip out?” I asked
“It’s home. We are from belfast” Anna explained
“Oh, nice” I said in surprise “but you guys don’t have the accent”
“We moved there when we were pretty young” Anna said
As we neared the hotel, the girls could see the cafe and looked at the window displays of cakes and cute confectionery. I gave myself a pat on the back for guessing right that they would like this and lead them into the hotel. As we walked in, I pointed to the cafe on the right which had eight different people waiting in a queue to be seated.
“Let me just go to reception for a second” I say as I start to walk there “Stand in the queue but we should be seen to before the others”
“Why?” Tara asked
I hold up my finger to ask her to wait a moment as the reception tells me that Sophie called and tried to get me at my room. I frown as I wonder why she would call again and why she didn’t call my mobile. When I take out my phone, I see that it’s dead and I groan in annoyance. It must not have had enough charge and after the night I had, I don’t think I even put it on charge. I thank the lady and speak to her about possibly checking out a little earlier and settling up the main bill for the room. I know I have a tracker up in the room and hoping to bring that down and plant it on the girls.
After the fight with Celine and her escape, I had chased after her scent but lost it for a month. It was then Sophie had called me and told me that she could help me track whatever scent I was smelling and Magnus, her blood father; would be able to help me with technology. I had agreed to come back, only so I could leave again and try to find Celine but these guys tried to reassure me she wasn’t alive. I didn’t believe that. I had taken some small tracking balls, a few safety gadgety thing that let them know I needed help by pressing on the button and a couple of mobile phones; from Magnus who said that he and his wolves would be there to help as and when I needed. Then I left.
I turned around and walked over to the girls, spoke to the cafe manager and once I let him know my room number, he ushered us in quickly, seated us at the VIP hotel guest section of the cafe and proceeded to take the order. I put in my request and told the girls I would be back as I had a call from my sister I had to take. Once I was back in my room, I quickly put all my things together in my sports bag, glad I wasn’t someone who needed a lot of things and was a tidy person. Apart from my phone charger and my night clothes and toothbrush, everything else was still in my bag.
I put my mobile on charge and grabbed my bag, rummaging through it to find the tracking devices. Feeling them in my hand, I turned around just as I heard my mobile beep to say some charge had been powered into my phone. I turn it on and see five missed calls and three texts from Simon and Sophie and I call Sophie quickly. She must have been waiting for my call because after one ring, she picked it up.
“Jas” Sophie said in a rush
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I ask
“Listin, where are you?” She asked me
“I just came back into the hotel. I went for something to eat but met someone that I think might be Celine. I’m going to follow her and her friend so here to get the tracking device”
“Jas-” Sophie said sadly
“Hey uh” I cut in “Can I speak to Kai? I just want to check something with him”
“Sure” Sophie said quietly
After a few seconds Kai came on as he greeted me like I really was family
“Hey buddy. Did you do something to Tolken? He seems to be really good just now. But, I can’t seem to smell him. My friend couldn’t tell I was a wolf” I say
“I had to make him understand that his future was nearly here and he couldn’t mess up. And that she would get scared if she smelled your wolf” Kai said in his childish voice
“So I’m right then. She’s Celine, I mean,I smelled it but then her scent changed and I got confused. But then she touched me and my wolf became excited. I knew she smelled like Celine but suddenly disappeared” I said with glee
“Yep” Kai said, extending on the letter p to make it sound longer
“I knew it. I’m going to tracker and then when I get her alone, I will kill her. Thanks for the help Kai” I said, planning on my next move
“You can’t kill her” Kai said
“No...no” I say, trying to lie so I didn’t hurt his feelings “I just mean I need to speak to her”
“I mean it uncle Jason. You can’t kill her because she’s your mate. The moon goddess said that because your first mate was taken by black magic and not by your fault; that she has given you another mate” Kai explained solemnly
“WHAT?! No, no Kai. Buddy I think this time you’ve got it wrong-” I started to say
“I didn’t because she told me so a few days ago. She said she was your mate and that your enemy would be your greatest love and from that you would also help me” Kai explained
“Helped you how? Kai, this doesn’t make sense. She can’t be my mate. She killed my mate and she will pay for tearing my family away from me” I say harshly
“You can’t uncle Jason because if you kill her. You will kill me and make me weak” Kai said strongly
“What? Kai, I don’t understand” I say, confused
“Your mate and you...are connected to me. If you kill her. You kill me too”Kai said sadly
