Deedee

I paced up and down, waiting and waiting. It’s been almost six hours and still he hasn’t come down.

“Deedee, come sit down. All that pacing is giving me a headache” Zelda said

“I can’t. It’s been hours. If he doesn’t help bring her back; then I may need to use the dagger. I honestly thought that by now...but..” I cut off with a sigh

“He’ll help her Deedee. He’ll find a way” Tara said

I rushed to her as she walked back into the livingroom, her eyes tired, her face pale and withdrawn as she took my hand in support and sat down on the sofa; sighing with relief. Zelda quickly made her a hot cup of tea from the newly brewed teapot and added a generous spoon of sugar. After taking a few sips of tea and eating a biscuit, I ran my hand lovingly over her head.

“You know, you really should have something more than sugary biscuits for dinner” I say lovingly

“I can’t. Not till Anna wakes up” Tara said

“She’s still not up?” Zelda asked, biting her bottom lip

“No. That was my fourth round of healing spell. He doesn’t know what to do” Tara said, her eyes watery

“He does” I said “But he’s unwilling to accept what it is. I don’t want to but maybe…”

“Deedee” Patrick called my name

I looked as Patrick and his wife entered the hallway and made their way to me. They had gone home earlier, telling me they would be back later to try and help. As I made my way over to them, I heard noise coming from behind them and gasped when I saw who it was

“Who are you?” tara said, tense as she stood up

“My name is Sophie and this here is my mate Simon, my guardian Scott and his mate Kelsie. And this here is - “

“Kai” Sophie, I and the boy said together.

Jason

I tried everything! Everything! For f**k’s sake can someone please tell me what to do. I hold my hair in frustration, running my hands through it. It’s been hours! When Tara first helped, I thought by round two of her healing spells; I would be able to bring Anna back.

I haven’t. It’s been hours and I still can’t figure it out! I even tried kissing her...like that whole disney thing; you know, like snow white. But it didn’t work.

I sigh when I look down at her. At least she wasn’t pale and no longer looked like death had warmed over. In fact, looking at her; you would think she was asleep and in a way, she was. I heard footsteps coming up and it wasn’t of just one person. I frowned because I wasn’t sure who else was coming up. Tara had just gone down so there was no reason for her to come back up so fast. I looked at my watch and my mouth almost opened in shock…..almost eleven at night!

“Jason” I heard my name being called

My mouth did drop now!

“Sophie! What...Simon! Kai!” I couldn’t believe it!

Kai came in, walking tall and proud as if wasn’t a three year old child but a king. I suppose he was since he was the supreme. Scott and Kelsie came in behind him along with Tara and Deedee.

“Uncle Jason” Kai said as he walked towards the bed “Why haven’t you woken her up yet?”

“I can’t” I replied “I don’t know how to”

“You do. You’re just scared” Kai said

Scared! The little s**t! I’m an alpha. What do I have to be scared of? I heard Kelsie gasp and when I looked at her, she moved around the bed to the other side

“THAT’S your mate? I didn’t know” Kelsie whispered

“She’s not my mate” I growl

“Why does that matter?” Sophie asked, turning to look at her

“She was there, helping us against Celine” Kelsie said “Kai, can you help me wake her?”

“Uncle Jason should do it. It’s his mate” Kai said confidently

“No she’s not. She’s not my mate. She’s….my friend” I say

Tara snorted. Deedee sighed, her eyes sad. Simon and Scott raised their eyebrows at me and folded their arms.

“Where’s Ray?” I asked, not seeing my twin

“He’s downstairs” Sophie answered while pressing her back slightly

“Here Luna” Deedee said “Sit”

Helping Sophie sit down on the chair that Deedee pulled aside, Kelsie held out her hand to Kai who walked over, his eyes never leaving me. I felt like I was a kid, being told off after disappointing my dad. Heat burned my cheeks and my body became stiff. When I looked over at Simon; he had an amused look on his face, his mouth twitching with laughter

“You know what uncle Jason? If you had taken the time to say what you really felt, she would have woken up” Kai said, sitting on the bed beside her

“What does that mean?” I asked

“That you are scared. But you shouldn’t be because she is a good mate. A powerful mate and you are holding many peoples lives in your hand” Kai said boldly

“What the fu-” I cut off when Simon and Sophie both cleared their throats “What does that even mean?” I asked Simon

“Beats me” Simon said, shrugging his shoulders “Kids always coming out with cryptic shi..stuff like that” Simon said, changing his words when Sophie cleared her throat again

“That's because he usually know what he is talking about”

I stiffened even further and looked towards the door. Ray. My brother. My twin brother. Looking at him, I smile, my heart painfully twinging as I take in his changed appearance. Gone was his what I called ‘designer beard’ he was clean shaven! His clothes used to be of the latest fashion. And while he looked smart with jeans and a polo shirt, it wasn’t his usual style.

“Hey” I say, my throat choking on the word

“Hey? Three years...three f**k-” At Sophie and Simon's clearing of throat, Ray changed his words “after three years of not seeing each other, a call to me...your fuc-” Clearing of the throat “A call to your twin once a month and all you can say is hey?”

“I...Ray-” I don’t know what to say

“Forget it” Ray said in disgust, hurt clear on his face

“I….cou'dn’t” I say, trying again

“You couldn’t what? Talk to your brother? Your twin brother? The brother who has been with you through thick and thin and when our pack was murdered? Or maybe you didn’t want to talk to the brother who was there to witness what you went through and could understand the pain of loss” Ray said, his body tense

“I couldn’t speak to the brother who saw me break down. I couldn’t see the disgust in your eyes. I couldn’t see how I let you down” I admitted

Silence was in the room. Talk about awkwardness. Sophie was sniffling as Simon gave her a tissue. The rest looked like they wanted to be anywhere but here. I knew it was my fault. I was the one who pushed him away

“Let me down? Goddess Jas! I didn’t expect you to get over what happened. I just wanted you to let me help you with the pain. Instead….this is not the place for this shi - stuff” Ray said

“Ray” I cut off, unsure what to say.

I was seeing my brother after three years! I didn’t know how to talk to him.

“Is that her?” Ray asked “she’s pretty”

Immediately my wolf growls out. The sound escaped without warning. How dare he! She’s f*****g mine! Why is he looking at her like that? Is he thinking that as most twins share, that he and I-? f**k that!

“He doesn’t mean anything by it” Scott said

“Deedee” Patrick said as he came into the room.

Geez! How many more people are going to come in here?

“Patrick, is it done?” Deedee asked

“Yes” He nodded

“What is?” I asked

“There are various private cottages dotted around the land here. There are ones we use when we have gatherings and out of town family visit. Which one did you give them Patrick?” Deedee asked him

“Rose cottage. There’s five e-suite bathrooms, a large kitchen and dining area as well as a good sized livingroom” Patrick explained

“Where’s?” Sophie asked

“About a six to eight minute walk behind this house. If you look out the window; you can see the top of the cottage over those trees” Deedee explained

“If everyone is done, can we look at Anna now?” Kai said “She IS the reason we are here for after all”

“You are?” I asked, surprised

“Holy S...poop kiddo” Ray said, smiling sheepishly when Sophie cleared her throat again “You and your words don’t even sound like you are three. I can’t believe you are using sarcasm”

“But I’m not three uncle Ray. I’m three in my human body. But in my supreme body, I’m over a hundred” Kai said seriously

“WHAT?” I asked, shocked

“Yea...that’s a whole other story mate” Simon said, sighing “Let’s just stick to helping Anna for now”

“How did you guy’s even get here so fast and know Anna needed you?” I asked, my head buzzing with Kai’s words

“Kai” They all said with one voice.

“Uncle Jason. Are you sure you don’t want to tell Anna anything?” Kai asked me

I shook my head, my mind all over the place. What did he want me to tell her? I don’t get it

“Ok then. Auntie Kelsie, can you hold this please” Kai said

He pulled out a red feather from his backpack and gave it to Kelsie. Tara walked over and put a grey tub by the side of the bed, just by my feet before moving away again. Holding the bag, Kai reached in and pulled out a small vial, no bigger the size of a thumb.

“What’s that?” I asked

“Her blood and a Phoenix feather” Kai stated matter-of-factley

“What? Where...how did you get her blood” I asked, shocked

“Quiet please” Kai said

I looked at everyone around the room, and apart from Tara and Patrick who were both shocked at Kai, everyone else seemed to find this and his behaviour normal. What was going on?

Kai took the feather from Kelsie in his hand and started to crush it, closing his eyes; his lips moving as if he was chanting something. What the hell? Kelsie reached over and moved the covers down a little before starting to lift the t-shirt Anna had on, up. I quickly reached over and held her hand still

“What are you doing?” I asked

“The feather will be grounded into a powder and placed over her stomach. The blood will help” Kelsie explained

“How?” I asked her, unsure what was going on

“Let them do what they need to Jason” Ray said

“Jas. Its nothing dangerous. There’s something inside of Anna that needs to get out in order for her to wake up” Scott said gently

“More magic f*****g s**t!” I said in anger

“Jas!” Kelsie said

“I’m so sick of this. Why is Kai chanting? I hate magick and witches s**t!. It fuckin ruins lives” I shouted

Seeing Kelsie pale and Scott walk closer to me, I cough to clear my throat as heat runs up my cheeks

“I don’t mean you Kels. I just...” I shake my head.

I let Kelsie go as she helps Kai to do what he needs to do. I see Sophie rub her hands and I can feel the energy in the room change as the three start to do something. I look at Tara who is looking at me with disgust. I know Deedee and Tara are witches and I look at Tara, apologising with a whispered ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean you either’ She just snorted and looked away.

I don’t know how long I looked anywhere but at what was going on. I just know that everytime Kai made a noise, the lights in the room dulled before lighting up too brightly and then dulling down again. My stomach grumbled just as I smelt blood and looked down to see Kai now pouring a small drop of the blood now over the crushed feather that…..looked like dust? What the actual f**k! How is that even possible?

I open my mouth to ask just as my stomach grumbles; reminding me that I haven’t eaten in a long time. Kai claps his hand before putting it over the mess on Anna’s stomach, his face pinched. Simon and Scott look tense and I start to feel sick. My stomach rumbling with the desire to vomit. I start to feel clammy, my hands clenching and un-clenching as I try to hold myself in check.

“Jason” Kelsie said “You need to place your hand on top of Kai’s”

“Why?” I asked, curious

“Just do it” Ray said with a sigh

I place my right hand over on top of Kai’s and gasp out loud. Immediately it felt like a magnetic pull! Something was keeping me in place as I felt a tugging sensation. I felt like I was on a boat as my stomach rolled and rolled, convinced I was about to vomit. Just as I was about to ask Kai to stop, Anna’s body heaved, bending in half as she shook. Her eyes still closed, she moaned and I knew it was because she was in pain. Kai stepped back before breaking whatever connection he and I had and hit Anna’s forehead with his hand. Suddenly Anna screamed, her eyes wide before turning to the side and vomiting into the tub that Tara had put there earlier. For a good few minutes Anna vomited….and vomited…...and vomited. The last time she did, whatever came out smelled so bad that I wanted to vomit myself.

Finally, after almost fifteen minutes of her continually gagging and vomiting, she stopped before slumping onto the bed. Kelsie took a cloth and dabbed Anna’s forehead as she gave Anna a bottle of water. I didn’t even know where that came from. Probably more magick s**t.

“Thank you” Anna said before her eyes strayed to mine “You came”

I could only nod

“Why?” She asked

I couldn’t answer. Her eyes teared up and Kai took her hand. Anna gasped, her mouth opening and closing a couple of times before she nodded

“Thank you” Anna whispered

I desperately wanted to ask what was going on but a part of me was disgusted. I hated witches! While some argued that most were good, I still felt that the majority must be bad. I mean, apparently it takes nothing to be evil or to be turned. They keep saying Celine’s dead but I feel her energy around. Even more so since Kelsie is here but that’s because she’s her daughter. When I Anna looked at me again, I turned my face away, moving away from her and from the foul smelling bucket.

Deedee and Tara came forward to speak to her as I moved away from them. Kelsie walked into Scott's arms and Kai walked to his mother. Simon picked him up and kissed his forehead as Sophie smiled and held his hand. I looked at Ray who was looking back at me in sadness and I averted my eyes.

“Can we sleep now?” Kai asked in a child-like voice

“Sure thing buddy” Simon said

Scott helped Sophie up as Tara looked over to the group. They decided to go to the cottage to settle in and discussed the plan. When Ray asked me if I was coming, I just wanted to run. I felt suffocated. Shaking my head, I told them I would stay at the hotel. Ray stayed silent before walking out the door; not even looking at me.

Tara took away the bucket as Deedee helped Anna up to help her to the bathroom.

“So what now?” I asked as we started to leave the room “I mean, how long are you here for?”

“Until you accept that she is your mate” Kai said sleepily, his head resting on his father’s shoulders

“She’s not my mate Kai. We are friends that…...like each other and hang out. But that’s it” I explain

“It not” Kai yawned “If you don’t find yourself then all will be lost….I will be lost”

“What do you mean?” I asked, looking at Simon as we reach down the stairs “What is he on about?”

“I don’t know” Simon answered “For months, he’s being saying things like that; not making sense”

“It doesn’t make sense to us but it does to him. I think the moon goddess has something to do with this” Sophie said as they all stood around, waiting for Tara or Deedee.

Patrick and Zelda invited us into the livingroom where there was a fresh pot of tea and coffee along with some rustic sandwiches. As Sophie sat down and groaned with relief, Scott made up a plate of food for his mate and Sophie.

“It does” Kai said, his eyes half closed

“It does what?” I asked kai

“To do with grandma...and because you won’t listen, you will make everyone cry….everyone will be hurt because of you” Kai said quietly

“My friends and family know I won’t hurt them” I said, unsure what he meant

“Not us. The world” Kai yawned loud

“The world? Kai, I don’t understand” I said, my heart beating faster

“That’s the problem uncle Jason. You don’t understand coz you don’t want to. And becoz of that...you will make the world cry and make them bleed. You will kill everyone” Kai said solemnly
