Adonis’ POV “And don’t ask about their mom; she’s not around. The only thing I know is she left him and her children when they were very young. They don’t see her, so don’t ask,” My mother explained to us as we stood in the doorway, waiting to meet the new magical researcher and his family. “And here we are,” My father said as he walked into the front doors with two Fae’s right next to him. He walked across the red carpet with intricate gold sewn into the rug to introduce us as we stood between the grand staircases. “This is Adonis, our oldest. Then Mihail, and Marina, who are twins. Marina is the next in line to take over after me,” My dad explained to them as the new researcher started introducing himself and his daughter. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Tyson Sterling, and this is my daughter, Shayna,” His voice was deep but cheerful. His daughter looked just like him, their purple eyes surprising me. I knew Fae could have crazy colored eyes, but I didn’t expect them to look like amethyst gems. “My son is on his way in; he forgot his phone in the car; you know how forgetful these kids can be,” Tyson laughed to my mom. “Boy do I,” She agreed as they laughed at our expense. The door opened, and suddenly I was hit in the face with the scent of freshly brewed coffee. “Mate,” I heard Roghun whisper in my head, instantly excited. I’ve heard you could be mated with different magical beings, so my mate must be Tyson’s other daughter. A Fae, how cool! I hope she has purple eyes. I took a step forward, looking and waiting in anticipation for her to walk through the doors. I was utterly shocked when a man walked in, alone. I tried to look behind him, but my eyes were drawn to him. I couldn’t look away as I felt something inside me shift. “Mate!” Roghun yelled. “Him?” I clarified with my Dragon, who excitedly responded. “You’ve always known this would happen,” He told me, but I don’t think I’m ready for this. “Why didn’t you warn me before!” I asked him, listening to his resounding chuckle echo in my mind. “There was nothing to warn you about; you already knew,” He said, but I had no time to argue with him. “Hello, earth to Adonis,” I heard my sister's voice as her hand waved in front of me. “Oh, I’m sorry,” I said, coming back to the reality of my male mate standing in front of me. “Hi, I’m Zaire,” My mate introduced himself with a smile that could knock me on my ass. I timidly took his outstretched hand, the tell-tale mate sparks filling my body the second we made contact. This is all the confirmation I needed. Zaire is my mate. “It’s great to meet you; welcome to our home,” I said, flushing when my voice cracked. I shook his hand entirely too long, quickly breaking the connection when I realized it. I glanced around to see if anyone else noticed what we were both clearly feeling, but it seems not. They were all in a deep conversation, but I felt like time was moving impossibly slow for Zaire and me. “Tell me about yourself,” Zaire said as he reached out and held my hand again. I looked at him, shocked that everyone was frozen in place. “What’s going on?” I asked him, watching his smile grow. The light reflected off his pearly white teeth before he responded. “We’ll talk later,” He said, and immediately everything was back to normal. I looked around, but no one was reacting like I was. What kind of magic was that? “I love that dress,” Shayna said to Marina as she reached out to touch the fabric. I looked at them and back at Zaire, wondering if I had just imagined all of that. “You’re going to love Minas; he makes the best outfits,” She told him, “But I have to say, your dress is charming,” She gushed. “Thanks! Zaire actually made it for me. He does all of my outfits,” Shayna told her, and I smiled at him, trying to think of anything to say. I was just gobsmacked by his appearance. I probably look like an i***t right now, but I can’t look away. He has the clearest purple eyes I’ve ever seen. His dark brown hair was shaved on the side but styled with a wave on top. “I’d love to design an outfit for you,” Zaire’s smooth voice floated on the air, and I swallowed hard hearing it. He was smiling at Marina, but when I looked at him again, I saw him glance at me through the side of his eyes. Does he realize we’re mates? Do Fae feel it the same? I know grandma is part Fae, but she also has a Dragon. Maybe they’re part Dragon too? “Well, Tyson, why don’t Elle and I show you to your office while the kids get to know each other. Adonis, would you mind showing Shayna and Zaire to their rooms? We’ve prepared the empty rooms in your hallway,” My father told us, not waiting for me to respond before he started walking away. “Of course,” I called to him, trying to make my voice much lower than it was before. Zaire's lips curled into a smirk, sending me over the edge. Does he know what he’s doing to me? “After you,” He coolly said, putting his hand out for me to walk in front of him. I could feel myself blush, so I immediately took off up the stairs and turned towards the hallway that holds our rooms. “We’ll come too!” Marina said, following close behind. Good, maybe she and Mihail will go with Shayna, and I could get a moment alone with Zaire to figure out what’s going on. My heart was pounding as Zaire walked next to me, his hand brushing up against mine every so often. Each time it did, sparks shot through my body, and I lost my train of thought. “And here we are,” Marina said proudly as we reached our rooms. “This one’s mine, then Marina, then Adonis,” Mihail explained, and I looked back at Zaire. “Do we get to choose?” He asked, and I nodded slowly. His sexy smirk never left his face as he looked at me. “I want this one!” Shayna quickly said, taking the room directly across from Mihail,” She ran into the room, and the twins followed her. “Then, I guess I’ll take this one,” Zaire said, his deep voice doing unspeakable things to my body. He seemed happy to have the room next to mine. So maybe he does feel the same attraction as me? “I… I-” Damnit! Why can’t I say anything!? “Will you show me around?” He said, raising his eyebrows at me. I nodded, opening the door and handing him his key. “I hope you have a spare,” He winked as he stepped past me and into the room. I quickly looked around, thankful no one was there to hear it. I stepped in behind him, turning around to shut the door. I took a deep breath and was going to try to talk when he turned me around, pushing my back against the door. He smirked at me as my mouth dropped, unable to form sentences as this hunky man stood over me. He slammed his lips into mine, taking all the thoughts of talking out of my head. I was hesitant at first but relaxed into it, rubbing my hands over his muscular shoulders. “Mmmm, I like that,” He purred into my ear as he sucked his teeth quickly. He went to put his lips back on mine, but I put my hand on his chiseled chest. Nope, shouldn’t have done that. He placed his lips gently on mine, nipping at my bottom lip. I had to talk to him first, so I pushed him back. He smirked at me, settling back on the bed, looking up at me with his expectant gaze. “We can talk later!” Roghun said, and I was definitely agreeing with him. I climbed on top of Zaire, kissing him eagerly as he leaned back on the bed. He easily took control and rolled me over; his weight on top of me felt amazing, I couldn’t get enough. He kissed my neck as he reached for my belt. It took everything inside me to stop, but I have to talk to him. I have to make sure he’s okay with this; he may not know why he’s feeling this attraction. “Wait,” I said to him, holding on to his wrists before he had the chance to take my pants off, “Do you know what’s happening?” I asked him, watching him nod as he licked his lips. “I’m one of the lucky ones who have been mated to a Dragon. But not just any Dragon. The sexiest Dragon I’ve ever seen,” He moved his hand to my face, grasping my chin as his other hand ran up my thigh, stopping just below my groin. My blood was rushing to my center, and I wanted nothing more than to explore everything with my mate. “Adonis is the perfect name for you; you’re stunning,” His deep voice vibrated in my ear, causing me to lose control again as he put his lips on mine. I was about to let him do whatever he wanted to when we heard someone trying the door. Zaire immediately put his hand up, and I could hear the door lock. He turned his attention back to me as whoever was behind the door switched to knocking. “Wait,” I said, stopping him again, “We can’t let them know about us,” I told him. He tilted his head as I continued, “No one knows I’m gay; I’m not ready to tell them,” I explained, watching his face fill with understanding. He sat up on the bed with me, fixing his impeccable hair. He looked at me with a smile as he pushed my hair back and nodded. “I understand; we can wait until we’re both ready. This is new to me too; I was just a little excited,” He told me, and I completely understood. I put my hand on his thigh, watching his lips turn into a smile. I gently kissed him before standing up and opening the door to see our siblings at the door. “Come on, we’re finishing the tour,” Marina griped as we walked out of the room. I turned and looked at Zaire, watching his face light up when we made eye contact. It’s going to be harder than I thought keeping this secret. ~ Marina’s POV “This is the gym; we workout here every morning at 5 am. It’s a great way to start the day; you should join us!” I told Shay and Zaire. Shay rolled her eyes, and Zaire just looked at Adonis. “I don’t think I’ll be coming here often,” Shay said, walking away disinterested. “Do you have a trainer, or do you work out alone?” Zaire inquired. “Adonis is kind of our unofficial trainer. Plus, dad joins us. I start training with Clilene soon; she’s amazing with Dragons,” I told him, watching as he listened intently before looking at Adonis again. “I know a bit about training; I’d love to join,” Adonis smiled brightly at him, nodding without another word. This is so unusual; why is he so quiet today? “Do you have a potions room?” Shay asked, and I finally understood where her interests lay. “We do; we can go there next,” I told her, watching her face light up. We finally made it to all of the rooms in the house, and we even showed them some of the secret passageways when we finally made it downstairs. “This is the kitchen, where all our meals are made for us,” Mihail explained the last stop on tour before looking back at us all. “This place is amazing,” Shayna said, looking around the grand room. “Right?” I said to her, watching as she looked at her brother, “What do you think?” “It’s beautiful, but I’d really like to see the nightlife. Since I know you three are too young, Adonis, why don’t you take me to the bar tonight?” He asked him, and I laughed at that. “He’s too young too!” I cut in, watching Zaire's face fall at that information. “I turn 18 in a month,” Adonis told him as he awkwardly rubbed his arm. Why is he acting like this? “Really?” Zaire asked, looking back at us. “Zaire’s old; he turns 20 next month,” Shayna said, but that didn’t really surprise me. He looks a bit older. I’ve never seen an 18-year-old look as developed as he is. “I can scout out the club scene, then I’ll take you out on your 18th birthday,” Zaire said, and I watched Adonis nod at him. Looks like Adonis found a new best friend. “So, what do you do for fun around here?” Shayna asked, and I smiled back at her. “Well, there’s a movie night in the grand room tonight,” I offered, watching as everyone looked at each other, then nodded. “Sounds like a great time. It was a long trip here, so I’m going to shower. We can get together later?” Zaire said, and Shayna nodded. “Me too! We’ll catch up with you later!” Shayna agreed, walking away with her brother. As they left the room, I looked back at my brothers. “Well, they seem nice. And Zaire is cute! He will have no problem picking up chicks at the bar,” I said with a laugh that only Mihail returned. I looked at Adonis, curious why his mood completely changed when we met them. “What’s up with you?” Mihail asked, confirming my feelings. “Nothing,” He quickly said before walking away. “That was so weird,” I said to Mihail, who nodded in agreement. “Whatever, let’s go bother Uncle Asher before the movie starts,” Mihail said, and I laughed. “Yes, please! I’ll meet you there,” I said, turning around and walking towards our bedrooms. I’ll talk to Adonis in private and see what’s going on with him. I picked up my step and turned the corner to see Adonis walking into Zaire’s room. That’s strange. Didn’t Zaire say he was going to shower? Why is Adonis going into his room? They shut the door, and I heard it lock, which is also strange. I was about to knock on the door when I heard my name being called. I turned around to see Damari standing in the hallway. “What are you doing here?” I asked him, surprised he wasn’t at home. “I couldn’t stand the fact that you hate me. I just had to come and apologize and do whatever I can to make things right,” I looked at him, then back at Zaire’s door. “Please, let me take you to get some coffee so we can talk?” He begged, and I rolled my eyes. “Fine, but we’re getting large, you’re paying, and Mihail is coming too,” I told him, and he nodded. ~ By the time we were done with our coffee, we were laughing and having a good time. I had forgiven Darami; it’s really not his fault this happened. “So, what are you going to do?” He asked me, and I laughed. “I’m definitely not taking that mate voyage at 17 like I planned,” I told him, “But in all honesty, I just need to make it through college and become Alpha. I think I can do that.” “If anyone could, it’s you. I think you’re right, though,” He mentioned. I tilted my head, “The Goddesses must know what assholes those Alpha’s are and won’t introduce you to your mate until after you’re the Alpha,” Damari explained, and I couldn’t help but laugh. “You really called them assholes in there?” Mihail asked, and my face turned red as I nodded. “I did,” I told him through a laugh. “It was honestly great. I know they’re afraid of her, and when she said that to him, I knew they were right to be afraid,” Damari admitted, and I tilted my head in confusion. “Afraid of me? Why?” If it’s power they’re afraid of, the Fire court already has the most power. “Your Dragon scares them. No one has heard of Syry before, where she comes from, or what she will be like. They know how strong Azza is, and I think they’re afraid of Syry turning on them,” I laughed loudly at that. “So, instead of getting on my good side, they try and take away my Alpha role. Typical,” I rolled my eyes, and Damari quickly agreed. “I did tell my dad that afterward. We had a pretty big fight; it’s why I’m here, actually. I’m letting him cool down before I return home,” I nodded, and my phone went off. Shayna was texting me, asking where I was. She must have gotten my number from Adonis. “We have a movie night tonight; want to join?” I asked him, and he nodded. We got home, and I introduced Damari to Shay and Zaire. We watched the movie as a group, along with many other Dragons our age. It was an action-packed movie that kept me on the edge of my seat. When it was finally over, I decided it was time to talk to Adonis. “Can I talk to you?” I said to him once the lights were on in the room. He looked at Zaire, then back at me with a nod. We walked to one of the private rooms off the main room and shut the door. “Are you okay?” I asked him, watching as confusion washed over his face. “Yeah, why?” He asked me, and I crossed my arms, tapping my foot. “You were weird today. Eerily quiet as soon as we met the Sterlings. Do you know them from somewhere else?” We used to go with mom and dad to the Fae land in Sweden when we were younger. I barely remember going, but Adonis would recall more than us. “It’s fine. I’m fine, really,” He said, rubbing his neck. “Okay, if you say so,” I said to him, watching as he quickly got up and left the room. I watched him go back to Zaire, striking up a conversation as they left the room. A wave of tiredness washed over me, so I decided to go to bed. I said goodnight before going into my room and shutting the door. “Your brother is hiding something. Even his Dragon wouldn’t spill it,” Syry said as I laid my head on the pillow. “Why didn’t you make him?” I asked her. Syry has this way of making other Dragons talk to her. I can’t hear what’s happening, and not everyone can do this, from what I understand. It’s how I found out how my mom actually got that scar on her chest. Syry can get in there and find out what others are hiding. “I couldn’t make him talk like I usually can. It appears I need more practice,” We’re still new to all of this, so I don’t expect her to be perfect. But I do know this is going to be a valuable asset as an Alpha. I just have to make it to graduation without finding my mate.
