PRESENT DAY.
I got to work extra early because I had to prepare some documents for my meeting.
I would have asked for help from my coworkers but everyone was busy preparing for the arrival of the new boss.
I was tired and burnt out but I still had a lot to do. I stared at the pile of paperwork in front of me and sighed.
The phone rang and I picked it up.
"Matt inc. This is Alissa, how can I help you?" I said in my professional voice.
"Hi, Alissa. It's Jess from Mr Park's office, can I get the numbers now?"
"Like right now? Over the phone?" I stuttered.
"Yes, please."
"Um, okay. One second please" I held the phone in between my ears and my shoulder while skimming through the documents on the table.
"Welcome sir." Sarah said beside me, in an unusually chatty tone.
She kept nudging me but I didn't bother to look up because I was so engrossed with the numbers I was searching for.
"Excuse you" he said
Without looking up, I greeted whoever it was and continued searching for the exact page where I wrote it.
"Found it" I beamed
I called out the number to Jess and I ended the call.
"Sorry about that, good day to you, sir." I said with the sweetest smile I could fake.
"Took you long enough" he snorted
"Sorry?"
"What's your name?" He demanded
"Alissa John, sir" I answered
"Okay" he said and walked towards the elevator.
"Pack your things girl, I think you may have just lost your job" Sarah advised
"And why would that happen?"
"You ignored Mr Matthew."
“ Mr Matthew?” She looked confused.
“Yes, Alissa. Mr Matthew, CEO of the company you currently work at, for a while I might add.
"Yes, but It wasn't intentional. I was working on an important assignment. Of course, he'd understand that." I explained
"Oh, Alissa. I'll miss you. I hope the next person they'll employ will be as funny as you are" she teased.
"What are you talking about, stop saying nonsense and focus on work!" I commanded
*George Pov*
"Welcome sir, I'm Diana. I am your new secretary" she said as she entered my office.
"Can I get you anything?"
She was smiling at me but the smile was exaggerated, her button was open to show her cleavage. I sighed.
"Diana, do yourself a favor and dress properly" I said, with irritation clearly showing on my face.
"Oh, I'm sorry about that. I didn't know it was open." She was clearly embarrassed.
"Get out." I ordered.
She ran out of the office in fear, almost falling as she left. I dialed the president's number.
"Mr Matthew, what a pleasant surprise. I hope you've settled in nicely. Is everything to your taste?" He asked over the phone
"Fire Diana!" I barked
"Which Diana?"
"My secretary."
"May I ask why sir?" He said
"No, you may not."
"I'm sorry sir, I'll fire her immediately and get a replacement for her." He added quickly
"No need for that, I've found the perfect candidate" I replied.
The picture of a pair of big brown eyes came to mind and I smiled.
"Who is that sir?"
"Alissa John" I replied
"From reception? But she's under qualified. Don't worry sir, I'll find the perfect secretary for you." He reassured.
"I don't care, bring Alissa to me" I ordered and ended the call.
I went through the documents on my table and quickly got consumed with work.
Few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I ordered them in.
"Good day sir, I'm Alissa John. I'll be your new secretary. I look forward to working with you" she said and bowed slightly.
"Working with?"
"Sorry about that, I look forward to working for you." She corrected.
"Of course you do, I'm George Matthew." I said haughtily.
She looked at me like I had grown two heads.
"This girl and her boldness" I thought to myself.
"Is there anything you would like me to do for you?" She asked with a smile.
"I have a list." I replied in a low sultry tone
"Sorry?" She blinked
"Get me coffee, Alissa."
"How do you like it?" She asked and I gave a questioning look which she caught on immediately.
"I'm sorry, that came out wrong. I didn't mean.... I was talking about coffee. I didn't..…" she stuttered, clearly embarrassed.
"Black" I said simply
"Alright sir" she said and walked out of the office.
"I'm going to enjoy this" I said to myself and smiled.
I continued working and I didn't notice when she walked back in.
"Here you go sir, freshly made coffee. Black, no sugar." She placed the tray on my table.
"Oh but Alissa, you should have added sugar." I said with a smile.
"But you said black"
"Yes, black. Not dog piss. Get this nonsense out of my sight." I barked.
"I'm sorry, I'll make it again." She hurriedly ran out of the office and five minutes later she came back with another tray.
"Here you go sir, black with two sugar." She said
"It's cold."
"Sir?"
"It's cold, I don't drink cold coffee. Make it again" I ordered
"But you didn't even taste it" she exclaimed
"I wouldn't be caught dead drinking something like this, make it again" I emphasized on the last phrase.
"Yes sir." She said and walked out of the office.
I laughed so hard, I nearly fell from the chair.
This is a better return than I imagined. I'm going to have so much fun, I thought.
She came back with another tray and i assessed it, looking for some thing to complain about.
"The tray is dirty" I said finally
"I'm sorry sir, I should have acknowledged you when you first came in. I'm very sorry about that but it was an important call and I didn't want to mess it up." She apologized.
"What are you talking about, Alissa. Do you think I'm punishing you for what you did?"
"Yes sir" she murmured.
"I'm not that petty, you are just very bad at your job."
"Oh I'm sorry sir but this is my first day here and it has been barely thirty minutes since I got this job. So forgive me If I'm terrible at it, I haven't had my training yet!" She retorted
My eyes widen in surprise. How dare she raise her voice at me. Who the hell is Alissa John?
