"If you'd excuse me now sir, I have to go through some videos to prepare me to serve you better." With that she walked out. I was in shock, no one has ever talked to me like that. Girls were too busy flirting and the guys were trying to find favors. I was intrigued by her actions. I wanted to know more, I got this impulsive idea to push her as hard as I could. I wanted to test her limits so bad. The phone rang, dragging me out of my daydream. "Georgy honey" the voice said over the phone. "What?" I snapped. It was Adeline, my ex fiancee. "Georgy, are you still mad at me?" "How did you get this number?" "I miss you, I miss us. What we had, what we shared. I'm very sorry, I wish you would forgive. I wish things would go back the way they were." She begged "Not happening, not now, not ever. Don't call this number again" I replied coldly "Georgy wait" "Don't call me that" "I know you're mad at me and you probably think you hate me but think about our past. Think about our history, the good times we had together." She said faking sobs. "You are so pathetic. You disgust me, listen to me. I don't know how you got this number but you will not disturb me or you will regret it." With that, I ended the call. I tried to focus on work but I couldn't take my mind off the betrayal. I had gotten over the heartbreak but I would never get over the betrayal. I trusted her but most importantly, I trusted my cousin. I should have known better since Chase was always jealous of everything I did. My phone rang again and I was about to smash it out of anger when I saw the caller ID. It was my mom. "George dear" she said "Hello mom" "I just got off the phone with Adeline. She sounded really upset." "Is that why you called? I don't have time for this" I said "George, you should forgive her. People make mistakes all the time, besides she's very sorry. Remember how much you loved her?" "Did she put you up to this?" I questioned "No, I'm just concerned about you. It's been two years, it's time to move on." "What do you mean?" I asked, clearly irritated "I mean you're not growing younger, neither am I. I would like to see my grandchild before I die" "Mother, the last time I spoke to your doctor he told me you're perfectly healthy." I mentioned "What does he know? Healthy people die every day." "I am not going back to Adeline and I would appreciate it if you stopped trying to get us back together." "Why?" "I have a new girlfriend" I announced, in a bid to get her off my back. "Oh really? That's wonderful." "Yes so stop playing matchmaker." "Do I know her?" She asked eagerly "No" "Where did you two meet? How long have you been dating? Which family is she from? What does she do?" She questioned. "I have to go mom, I have a lot of work to do. Today is my first day and you're distracting me already." "Fine fine, I would love to meet her though. Bring her over for dinner sometime." "Okay" I answered curtly "How about tomorrow night? Your uncle will be visiting us, it'll be lovely for us to have dinner together. You'll be killing two birds with one stone." "I will think about it" "No, no. Don't think about it. I want you there, that's an order George." She said. "Fine but I'm not bringing my girlfriend." "Oh, of course you'll bring her. Remember the clause your father left in his will? The board of directors have to approve you so you can inherit everything. The best way to start is by getting a stable relationship" she advised. "You know your uncle is an influential person on the board, it'll be good if you make a good impression. That's why you need to get back with Adeline." She continued. "I already have a stable relationship and I love her. If I go back to Adeline, it just shows I'm a weak leader." "No, it just shows that you're capable of emotions. That you're not the robot you show your self to be." She countered. "I am not going back to Adeline, I have a girlfriend. Remember?" "Bring her to dinner tomorrow. I want to meet her." "Good bye mother." I ended the call and sighed. If only my dad didn't leave the board in charge. But that's not the main problem, the problem at hand is to find a girlfriend. I contemplated calling one of my hookups but my mom would find out and try to set me up with Adeline again. "This is frustrating" I said to myself. I decided to forget about it and focus on work instead. I opened the file I was working on and skimmed through. An account was missing. I did the maths in my head and it didn't add up, I laughed and dialed my secretary's number. "Hello sir" Alissa said over the phone. I got the best idea ever. "Come into my office right now" I ordered. There was a knock on the door and I ordered her in. "You called for me sir." She said "Have a seat" I offered, she obeyed and stared at me waiting for my order. "How much did you earn annually as a receptionist?" I asked "Sorry?" She blinked "How much are you going to earn annually as my secretary?" I asked again "I don't understand what you mean sir" "Double it, in fact make it times three." "My annual salary?" She asked "Yes, that's how much I'm offering you." "For what sir? Forgive me, I'm a little lost." I cleared my throat and smiled. "I have an offer that I think you won’t refuse” I bragged. "Um, thank you sir?" She didn't sound too sure. "Be my girlfriend" I announced.
