*Alissa POV* "Girl.. girlfriend?" I asked in shock, wondering where he got that idea suddenly. I had not even worked 24 hours for him, I was also less than a year old at this company and he was already asking me to do something almost impossible. He might have lost his senses while he was away, but there was no way I was going to accept his offer. "Yes" "I'm sorry sir but I can't do that. Our relationship is strictly professional." I said. "Of course, this one would be professional too. Think about it as a business proposal" "Business proposal…?” "Yes, a business proposal.” He said haughtily. "What kind of man is this" I murmured "What's that? What did you say?" He asked. "Nothing sir.” I replied with a smile. "So, what do you say? You'll take the deal right?" "No sir, I'm sorry but I can't. I like my life the way it is. Thank you for the offer though" I replied "What do you mean No?" "I can't be your girlfriend." I said simply "Are you rejecting me?" "Yes sir" With that he laughed loud, he threw his head back and laughed. It was a deep rich sound, I had goosebumps. "What's so funny sir?" I shifted in my seat. "You are" "Um, thank you sir?" I said confused "I'm not asking you out, Alissa. You're not my type. I'm asking you to be my contract girlfriend for a while. Don't get your hopes up, I don't date girls like you." He said rudely. "Well, you're not my style too. I don't date men like you, so thank you for your offer but I'll have to decline. Now, if you'll excuse me." I stood up and was about to leave his office. "What the hell is wrong with you? Other girls would have jumped at this opportunity." "You have your answer sir, I'm Alissa John. Not other girls." I turned to face him. "You're crazy" "I'm not interested in your offer sir" I said simply "Why?" "I hate lies and deceit. I won't pretend to be someone's girlfriend just for quick bucks" I replied. "Is it the money? I'll double it." He said proudly "Can I leave now?" I asked, clearly irritated "Sure but if you leave, just clear your desk. You no longer have a job here." "Sir?" I choked "You heard me" "But... But.... I don't understand" I stuttered "What part don't you understand?" "I've worked as hard as I could to retain this job. I’ve been at your company for almost two years and the clients and visitors have become accustomed to seeing me here at the company. If you fire me, how do you think the clients would see it?" I said “Also, it’s really hard finding a job that can take care of my bills as it is” I continued "That's why I'm rewarding you with this opportunity." "This is not a reward sir, it's a punishment and I don't think I deserve this." "What do you deserve then?" He asked and leaned back into his chair. "A promotion maybe, salary increase?" "This is better than all those you've mentioned." "Sir please, I'll do anything." I begged. "Anything?" "Yes sir" "Accept the offer then or clear your desk" he replied "Why are you doing this to me sir? Why me?" "That's a very good question, Alissa. Even I don't know the answer" "Can I think about it?" I asked "No, I don't have time for that. I'm not asking you out, I'm giving you a contract. Take it or leave it" he barked I thought of Seth and how to take care of him. We've barely made it out of poverty, I didn’t want to take him back to that life. "Clock's ticking, Alissa." His voice brought me out my thoughts and back to reality. "I'll take it" I whispered. "What's that? I can't hear you." "I'll take it" I repeated. "Take the what?" I looked at him and he was smiling, he obviously thinks this is funny. There was a growing rage inside of me but I pushed it down. Now is not the time to yell at him, he probably hates me already. Yelling would only make things worse. "I'll take the offer" I said with a fake smile. "Good choice Alissa, very good choice." He replied. "Can I leave now?" I asked "Sure, you can go back to your desk. My lawyer will draw up a contract and send you a copy." "Thank you" I said and I walked out of his office. I went straight to the restroom and broke down in tears. When I got the news that I was being transferred to the upper level, I was ecstatic. I thought of it as an opportunity to give my son a better life. I never thought being the boss's secretary would come with his crazy clause. I wouldn't have taken the offer but I needed the money. I also needed the security that came with the job. I couldn’t let my son go through the same thing I went through as a kid. My phone rang and I checked the caller ID. It was an unknown number. "Hello" I answered. "Where are you?" The voice sounded familiar. It was my boss. "I'm in the rest room, I'll be out in a minute." I replied. "I didn't ask for details, my lawyer has sent the contract to your email. Go through it and sign it." He said and ended the call. I fixed my makeup and looked at myself in the mirror. I went back to my desk to check the contract. I glanced through it and gasped. These rules were ridiculous. There was no way I was going to sign it. I printed it out and walked to my boss's office. "Excuse me sir, do you have a minute?" I asked. "Sure, what Is it?" He didn't look up from his laptop. "These rules are outrageous, you don't possibly expect me to agree or even sign them?" I asked That made him look up from his laptop. "What's wrong with it?" He snorted. I huffed and straighten the paper. "No male interaction? No clubbing? No beige colored clothes?" I read the first lines out. "These rules are outrageous, even though I'm not a fan of clubbing but no male interactions? No beige colored clothes? You can’t possibly be serious?" I said, the last part bring a question. "Yes, I hate them. Plus you look rather boring in beige, I think violet would suit you better." "What?" "Yes, violet. Wear a violet gown tomorrow night." He said "Tomorrow night? What's happening tomorrow night?" "You're having dinner with my family." He stated like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Huh?" I exclaimed.
