Chapter 3 Going after Brie

2261 Words
Edited. Sadie’s P.O.V I still can’t believe that she would just up and go like this. If she overheard what we said then all she had to do was ask and we would have told her everything, but maybe she thought she couldn’t come to us after what she heard. After all, we had lied to her for years, not only about how she had been found, but also our thoughts of what happened that day and the tablets that we had been giving her as well. My husband, Sparrow and I knew what we were both thinking, that we should have told her and helped her go through this, but now she is out there all on her own. We knew that she worked at the coffee shop and did odd jobs for pack members when she was younger because that's how she paid for her car, but we had no idea how much she saved up because we never asked, it was none of our business. We wanted her to be able to have as much freedom and independence as she wanted, but we were still there for her when she needed us. We didn’t want her thinking that she had to depend on anyone and now look at us, we don’t even know where she is going or where she is right now. My wolf, Roxy, can smell her scent or some kind of scent, I’m not quite sure what it is. My wolf, Roxy, always told me that Brie was stronger than we thought she really was, that she was special and had a purpose. I never knew what my wolf was talking about, but it seemed somehow she was right. We should have told her the truth, but how can I tell her now. How can I tell her that we all thought that she shifted at a young age and went on a rampage, killing everything in sight? How can I tell her that when we don’t even know if it's true, especially as we never found any bodies or bones? How can I tell her that when we found her she was covered in blood and none of it was hers, but we just filled in the blanks and came up with our own assumptions of what happened? How could we judge her when we weren’t even there, we don’t know what she went through? I thought, questioning everything I had believed in for all these years and all I could do was shake my head at my own stupidity. “I know what you’re thinking, Sadie and I know we should have told her years ago, but we didn’t because we wanted to keep her safe. Don’t worry, honey, we will find her. I promise we will find her. I will not give up, this is my promise to you, we will find our daughter.” Sparrow said, taking my hand in his. He knew that I was upset, but I was more angry at myself for not giving our daughter the benefit of the doubt, for not believing that she couldn’t hurt a fly, let alone all the creatures they said the blood on her smelled of. Brie’s P.O.V This bed was so comfortable, like it was somehow meant to be mine and there was no way I was going to complain. The blankets were soft and the sheets were as well, so I couldn’t help drifting back off to sleep. I didn’t dream of that man again, but then again I still wasn’t sure if it was a dream or not. I do however know that the man was as sexy as hell and I enjoyed listening to his voice. He had long brown hair down to his shoulders, green eyes, he stood at about 6.1 and he was muscular with tattoos. I always thought that was sexy and it made me shiver to think of him. It felt so vivid and that made me believe that it wasn’t a dream, but if it wasn’t a dream, then what was it? Would I see him again or not? This was all new to me and although it intrigued me it also scared me a little because I didn’t know what it meant. I carried on sleeping throughout the rest of the day, only waking up to use the bathroom a few times, but as soon as I laid back in my bed I was out like a light again. Like I said before, I was exhausted and needed my rest, but in the morning I would have to start looking for a job. Sparrow’s P.O.V Brie had got one hell of a head start on us and we had looked everywhere that was local to the pack and surrounding areas, we even asked her boss Jeffery if he had seen her and he told us that she was probably spending the raise he had given her. We didn’t even know that she had been given a raise and were proud of her for getting one, but we knew that she wouldn’t just blow the money, so we expanded our search perimeter and had now been driving through the night, not knowing where she had gone. We knew the rough direction she had left in because we could smell her scent, but that was it and we were both exhausted. Alpha Joe had been trying to link us ever since we left the pack, but we kept ignoring him, focusing on finding Brie, but we knew that we had to answer him before he declared us as rogues. “Where the hell are you? I felt you crossing the border of the territory and I’ve been mind-linking you.” Alpha Joe said and I sighed, knowing that we had to tell him the truth. “Alpha, Brie fled some time last night. She overheard Sadie and I talking and she knows, Alpha, she knows about the tablets and everything else. We are looking for her right now.” I replied, opening my mind up so that Sadie could hear our conversation as well. “WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU TWO THINKING?!! I TOLD YOU TO TELL THAT GIRL THE TRUTH, BUT YOU KEPT IT FROM HER!!! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT SHE RAN!! NOW YOU BETTER f*****g FIND HER AND TELL HER EVERYTHING!!! DO YOU HEAR ME?!!!” Alpha Joe yelled through the link at us. “Yes Alpha, we hear you loud and clear. We will find her.” Sadie and I said in unison. “GOOD, YOU BETTER WELL MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO!!!” Alpha Joe shouted and then ended the link. “I didn’t realise he would be this angry.” Sadie said and I nodded. “Me neither, but he is right, we should have told her the truth years ago and now we are going through this. Come on, let’s stop for the night. We need to get some rest for tomorrow, the next stop is Tennessee, that’s about eight hours away, so we need sleep for that trip.” I replied and Sadie nodded. Brie’s P.O.V The morning came all too soon and I felt rested, but still didn’t want to get up. I knew what I needed to do though, so I dragged myself out of bed and to the bathroom. I took a shower and got dressed in jeans and a button up shirt, then brushed my hair into a ponytail. I brushed my teeth, put on a little make-up and I was done. I had seen a few places on my way here, so maybe they were hiring, if not then I would look further out. I only needed something part time to keep the money coming in, even though I had plenty left in my checking account I wasn’t going to mess with that just yet because they could easily track it down. I would have to find a bank and open a new account, that would be better. I thought to myself, leaving the house and locking the door behind me. I got into my car and drove off in the direction of the shops I had seen. I stopped at three shops and they all said the same thing, that they weren’t hiring. All I wanted was a part time job and to just work, but what fun is it if you won’t be able to work and have no money coming in to pay the bills and to have fun with. The money I had saved up wasn’t going to last me long if I couldn’t find a job in the next couple of months. I asked at a few more shops, but got the same answer and then I went to one last place that was a coffee and cake shop. I was lucky enough that I had caught them just as they were opening up and asked to speak to the manager. “Hello, you asked to see me?” The manager asked and I nodded. “Yes, I was wondering if you were hiring?” I asked and I could tell straight away that the woman was thinking hard about it just by the way she was looking at me. “Yes, we are hiring, can you start on Thursday? That’s our busiest day, so if you can handle that then I will hire you on the spot. You can wear your regular clothes, just be here at six in the morning, so I can get all your information. Oh and the job is part time, I hope you don’t mind. It’s Thursdays and Fridays on, then off Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, then back in on Wednesday. Is that good enough for you?” The manager asked and I quickly nodded. “Yes ma’am, that’s perfect. I’ll be back in on Thursday at six in the morning on the dot.” I replied and we shook hands. I left the coffee shop, but I wasn’t done for the day. I went to the stores to get some cups, glasses, dishes, plates, cutlery and food and drink. I took them back to the car and put them in the trunk, then I went to another store and brought pillows and blankets. I went to a furniture store and I got a new coffee table that was a lovely dark marble and I bought a flat screen TV that I could mount on the wall to save me space. I bought a small table so that I could eat off instead of using the breakfast bar. Thankfully I didn’t have to carry any of this lot back to the car because they were going to deliver it later today. I went to a garden centre that was next to the furniture store and bought a few plants and shrubs that were going to be delivered tomorrow afternoon. I got into my car and started the engine just as the oil light came on, so I found a garage and got my oil changed, then hurried back home to get ready for the furniture to be delivered. I unloaded the car and carried it all into the kitchen, putting everything away and just as I finished the truck with my furniture arrived. After everything was put away and rearranged I settled down on my couch with a glass of wine and started to relax. This place was starting to feel like home and I was loving it even more. I took a sip of my wine and it tasted amazing. I always loved wine, especially red wine, that was my favourite. I felt so relaxed and tired, that I put my glass on the coffee table and laid back on the couch, closing my eyes. All I wanted was to just lay there and relax, maybe take a little nap, but that's when it happened. I was in a bedroom that was bigger than mine and the curtains were closed, but I could see that they were a light blue colour, which was my favourite colour. There was a huge flat screen on the wall and it was switched on, but on mute. There was a huge dresser and walk-in closet next to the bed and there he was. The same man that I had seen before in the office, the sexy as hell man, but this time he was sleeping. I walked closer to him and saw that his tattoo went up his arm and onto his chest. He was lightly snoring and it sounded so cute, but I quickly shook the thoughts from my head and stepped back. I knew that I needed to leave before he woke up because I didn’t want to freak him out. How did I do it last time? I thought and suddenly I was wide awake, sitting on the couch in my living room. I shook my head as I looked around at my things, wanting so much to go back to him, but I just couldn’t. What happened if he had a wife and she could see me, I could get him in trouble for something that neither of us have any control over and that’s not right. It was dark out and when I looked at the clock I saw that it was late, so I went to bed. Tomorrow I’m just going to relax and enjoy my day. Maybe even plant a few of the flowers I bought, when they get delivered tomorrow, that would be nice.
