Just as the security men were harassing Matthias by grabbing his belt and dragging him, Paula stood with her arms folded, a smug look on her face.
Rafael Vicenzo smirked, watching the security men rough up Matthias. Matthias pleaded with the security to listen to him. Before they could decide whether to hear him out, Paula interjected.
"Take him to the police," Paula demanded. "He's a thief. I know him very well from school. There's no reason to listen to him. He's a poor delivery guy who refused to take his $2 last night out of pride. Now he's roaming the streets looking for food to steal."
Despite Paula's lies and the security's rough treatment, Matthias remained calm.
"Look, I'm not a thief. I'm just here for the party like everyone else, you have to try and listen to me," Matthias said calmly, as the security held him firmly.
"Shut up! You have no shame. Who do you expect to believe that crap? Take a look at yourself, how can you be in a party like this if not to steal?" One of the men said, shutting Matthias up.
Rafael joined in, "Even I, with a millionaire father, only got in because I knew Jude Campbell from high school before his father became president. How could an orphan, roaming the streets and kicked out of his dorm, afford a spot at the president's son's party?"
The security men nodded, convinced that Matthias was a thief. They continued dragging him roughly, ignoring his calm protests.
Suddenly, a Bugatti Divo pulled up behind Paula and Rafael. The car door opened, revealing Jude Campbell himself, followed by his female assistant holding an Apple tablet.
Noticing the commotion, Jude Campbell rushed over. "What's going on here?" he demanded.
Before the security could answer, Rafael stepped forward, eager to explain. Paula turned to Matthias and sneered, "Your life is over. The president's son himself is here. You're in for it now."
Jude Campbell asked Rafael to explain. Rafael, keen to emphasize their relationship, began, "Alright, friend. My girlfriend Paula and I were just coming into your birthday party when we saw this pauper from our school trying to steal one of the drinks meant for the guests."
Jude frowned, turning his attention to Matthias. "Is this true?"
Matthias, finally given a chance to speak, said, "No, it's not true. I was invited here. I didn't steal anything."
Paula scoffed. "He's lying, Jude. He doesn't belong here. He's just a poor delivery guy, how could you have invited him here? He was here to steal, thank God I caught him."
Jude held up his hand to silence her. He looked at the security men.
"Release him."
The security men hesitated but then let go of Matthias.
"What is your name?" Jude asked Mathias, who was now straightening his clothes.
Jude turned to his assistant, who quickly brought up a guest list on her Apple tablet. "Check if Matthias Kane is on the list," Jude instructed.
Jude Campbell's assistant wasted no time scanning through the list, as Matthias' name and his grandmother's were the first two entries, not just in any section but in the VIP section, which meant the president himself invited them.
There were only three names in this section, making Matthias and his grandmother stand out even more.
The name on the list was "Matthias Kane," matching the ID used for the invitation. Jude had no idea that Matthias Kane was the same Matthias who now owned the Nelson Consortium and could potentially offer him a job after graduation.
The assistant, shocked, leaned toward Jude and whispered, "Boss, you have to see this."
"The name Matthias Kane is not only on the list but is first on the VIP list," she whispered into his ear alone.
Jude's mouth dropped open in disbelief. He had instructed the event planner to place Madeline Nelson's grandson first upon hearing that he had taken over the consortium although he didn't know the name.
Jude's heart raced as he handed the tablet back to his assistant and looked at Matthias again.
"Is your name really Matthias Kane?" Jude asked, his voice was now filled with surprise. He couldn't believe it because the man in his front was dressed like an ordinary young man, but he was worth even more than his father.
"Yes, my name is Matthias K-"
Before Matthias could reply, Paula stormed up, grabbed the can of fruit juice from his hand, and dumped the entire contents over his head. Matthias gasped, now drenched in juice. But before he could react...
"What?! Jude screamed, startling Paula.
She turned to Jude and shrugged, wondering why he reacted that way.
Jude stepped forward, shocked. He knew who Matthias was and the power he now held. He couldn't allow such disrespect.
"Do you realize what you've just done?" Jude asked Paula, his voice trembling with anger.
Paula scoffed. "Yes, of course. I just dumped the juice he stole on him to teach him a lesson."
Jude gritted his teeth, nearly slapping Paula, but Rafael grabbed his hand, shocked. "Why would you almost slap my girlfriend for a church rat like Matthias?"
Jude pushed Rafael backward. "Do you even know who this young man is?" He pointed to Matthias.
Paula chuckled, "Yes, that's Matthias Kane, a poor delivery guy who would lick up poop just to get paid a dollar."
Jude shook his head in disappointment. "Rafael, out of all the girls you could date, you chose a daft, senseless one like Paula."
Rafael tightened his jaw, angered by Jude's insult to his girlfriend.
"There's a mistake here. This guy is a nobody. Why are you defending a thief who's here to steal food and drinks from your party over my girlfriend and I?"
At that moment, Jude slapped Rafael. Rafael, in shock, touched his cheek where Jude had hit him.
"Shut up, Rafael," Jude snapped.
"You're dumb and have no brains anymore. No wonder you're dating a fool who would call a personality like Matthias Kane a thief."
Paula and Rafael stood speechless, stunned by Jude's reaction. Jude turned to Matthias, his expression softening.
"I'm terribly sorry for this, Matthias. Please, come inside and enjoy the party. Pardon these fools for their ignorance," Jude said to Matthias who had been handed a handkerchief to dry his face.
Matthias nodded, still processing what had happened, but grateful for Jude's intervention. He picked up his damaged phone and walked towards the party with Jude, leaving Paula and Rafael standing in stunned silence.
Jude turned around, a realization dawning on him.
"Cancel the names of these two out of my payroll, they are both fired for laying a hand on Matthias Kane," Jude said.
He announced to his personal assistant to cancel the names of the two security men from his payroll.
"Have mercy, boss. We didn't mean to, we had no idea who this young man was," the security men began to plead, begging for mercy, but Jude saw that it was Paula who had misled them.
"Walk Rafael and his brat out of my party," Jude instructed firmly. "They're not welcome here," he order the security.
"What?!" Rafael Vicenzo was stunned. "So this party is meant for people from the slums like Matthias?" He asked in shock.
Jude's expression hardened. "If you don't stop insulting my VIP guest, I'll report you directly to the police for harassment. You and Paula are banned from any of my future parties because you've shown you're not worthy. Security, if you want to keep your jobs, take out those fools standing there."
The security men hesitated for a moment but then moved to comply, understanding the gravity of Jude's ultimatum. Rafael and Paula struggled with the security, but their efforts were futile.
Paula was desperate. She needed parties like this for her social media status. Taking photos at the president's son's party could have done so much for her.
Rafael, equally desperate, shouted, "Jude! You can't do these, we are friends. You can't chase me out of your birthday party!"
Despite their struggles, the security overpowered Rafael and Paula, forcing them to agree to be taken out.
As they were escorted away, Jude turned to Matthias, his expression softening once again.
"I'm terribly sorry for this, Mr. Nelson, I'll make sure those two are thought a valuable lesson," Jude said. "Please, come inside and enjoy the party."
Matthias, still processing the events, nodded gratefully to Jude Campbell.
Matthias huffed, seeing how Paula and Rafael were being dragged out of the event center.
