Sadie POV
While we were hiking I caught the most amazing smell it was like the forest after a storm but none of the other girls smelled it which was weird. I felt like I had been here before the scent calling for me to find it's source. We came across the most beautiful waterfall I had ever seen and I immediately wanted to climb it. "Let's climb the falls and jump in"
"Sadie I don't have a death wish you can do that on your own" Kate responded looking at the cliff. As I climbed the cliff side I caught the smell again and it calmed my nerves as I climbed higher and higher. Once at the top I didn't feel alone, however I felt safe and at home amongst the forest. As I stood at the top of the cliff I smelled it again this time it was stronger as I breathed it in feeling the need to find the source and never leave it. I heard a rustling in the bushes behind me and when I looked there was a large black wolf with its head stuck out watching me. The wolf staring at me from the bushes had black fur that seemed blue in the light, piercing silver grey eyes and a single leaf stuck to his face. I didn't feel afraid of the wolf staring at me but felt as if I knew him and that I was safe here. "Don't worry boy. I won't hurt you if you don't hurt me " I whispered as I held my hand out as if he were nothing more than a puppy. "Sadie if you don't hurry up and get down we are going to leave you" Kate's yell pulled me from my thoughts as I turned and ran towards the edge of the falls and jumped. After our hike we headed back to our cabin to get ready for our dinner reservations at one of the restaurants in town. I showered and began to get ready. I took the braid from my hair and allowed it to fall down my back in loose curls. I put on light makeup and slipped on my black bodycon dress and slid on a pair of red heals. My thoughts going back to my parents and what they would think of their little girl all grown up trying to figure out life and the wolf I had seen on the trail this afternoon. I couldn't get over the way the wolf had looked at me, the eyes that looked at me familiarly. Laughter in the other room drew me from my thoughts and I began to walk through the cabin.
"Dang Sade you can clean up when you want" Sarah joked as I walked into the living room
"Very funny Sarah "
"In all seriousness you look stunning Sade. You may just find a man on this vacation" she told me sincerely.
"I would take that bet" Kate laughed as she walked in wearing a skin tight red dress that had a deep plunging neckline that dad would kill her if he saw her in it.
"I'm not really looking for a man right now especially with school being in limbo."
We got to the restaurant and headed inside where surprisingly we were immediately seated at a table with an amazing view of the mountains and town.
As we all sat there talking about our future plans and making jokes I got the faintest scent of the forest after a rain storm the same scent from the forest this morning. I looked around the restaurant to see if I could find the source of the smell and that is when I saw him the most handsome man on the planet. There standing in the doorway was a god of a man, his curly auburn hair fell neatly to one side of a perfectly tanned face , his green eyes the color of emeralds, his muscles straining against his blue button up, and a tattoo playing peekaboo where his sleeves were rolled up. When I looked at him I felt a sense of familiarity like I somehow knew him.
He was with a small group of other men that were just as good looking and as they made their way to the bar all eyes were on them as they passed our table.
"I think one of us has caught their eye" Kate playfully tapped my shoulder "you should go say hi the worst that could happen is they ask you to have me come over" she laughed.
"Very funny Kate" I said as I stood from my chair and made my way to the bar area. My feet went one in front of the other as if drawn to the auburn headed man standing in the middle of four other men. As I neared the group I hear the most beautiful voice "hello" to me. Something in me purred at his voice and warmth and safety enveloped me as I stood in his presence.
"Hi" I said slightly taken aback that this god of a man was speaking to me. Now that I was closer his emerald green eyes had flecks of gold dancing in them. Before either of us could say anything else I was bumped into by a waitress and fell forward but before I could fall to the ground this man covered the distance between us and caught me. I could have sworn I heard a growl come from the man before he caught me. As he caught me and our skin touched sparks erupted, I was caught off guard by it what is that static electricity? Whatever it was definitely wasn't normal.
He helped me back to my feet and looked into my eyes and a big goofy smile spread across his face and it was the most amazing smile I had ever seen.
"I'm John Luke"
"Sadie" I replied mesmerized by his eyes
"Are your okay? You aren't hurt are you?" He asked almost panicked.
"I'm fine just clumsy in these heels, I'm more of a tennis shoes kind of girl heels were my sister's idea" I joked confused as to why he was so worried about a complete stranger
"Good" he replied letting out a breath I didn't notice he was holding "so what brings you to our little town?"
"We are celebrating graduating highschool and my 18th birthday" I said gesturing over my shoulder to the girls "we are all going different places for college so this is our last hurrah before everything changes"
"Well happy birthday then Sadie" and he looked over my shoulder at the table of girls staring at our whole interaction.
"It's tomorrow but thank you!"
"So which one is your sister? No offense but you don't look like any of them?"
"The blonde making eyes at your friend here" I laughed pointing over my shoulder " and no offense taken I'm actually adopted so we technically aren't real sisters"
"Oh I'm sorry" he said with a frown
"No worries we don't hide it we are used to getting questioned" I smiled back at him.
"Okay. So now that I have put my foot in my mouth what plans do you have for the rest of your trip?"
"I'm not really sure I think the others want to shop but if I had a choice I would spend all of our time outside"
"Well if you need ideas I would be more than happy to tell you what locals like to do around here" he smiled.
"That would be amazing" I said handing him my phone "just put your number in there and I will text you later to get ideas."
He had just finished putting his info in my phone when I noticed our food was being delivered to the table. "Thank you again John Luke. Hope to see you again before we leave town" I turned to walk back to the table hoping deep down I would see him again. He felt safe and I knew I would go out of my way to see him again before leaving town.
"You're welcome Sadie, like I said reach out if you want some non tourist activities" he spoke softly.
I walked back to my table where my friends and sister were waiting to ask me every question known to man about the group I had just been speaking to. I keep looking over at this group and watch as they sat at a table not far from ours about halfway through our meal I noticed that John Luke had left but the rest of the group still sat at the table and I felt a strange sadness and emptiness at his absence.
As we finished our meal I asked our waitress for the ticket but was informed that our meal had been paid for. "Who on earth would have paid for our dinner?" I asked as Katie joked it was probably my new friend.
"Al- John Luke, he said to tell you happy birthday" as she finished saying this she quickly left the table. At this Kate shot me a look and wagged her eyebrows at me when she heard the waitresses response.
"Well sounds like someone made quite the impression. " she laughed "I'm honestly kind of jealous he was quite the man"
I could feel my face turn beet red as she talked about John Luke and the others. As we left the restaurant I stopped at the table and thanked the guys that were with John Luke and asked them to pass along the message to which they agreed.
