Sadie's POV
After dinner my sister decided she wanted to walk around and scope out the shops for our shopping trip tomorrow. As the others walked around taking about the cute outfits decorating the shop windows I took this as my chance to text John Luke without a million questions and naughty looks from the girls. I smiled as I thought about the god of a man who had given me his number. I quickly typed out a thank you and hit send.
*Hey this is Sadie. I just wanted to thank you for dinner! I told your friends but wanted to tell you myself. You didn't have to do that*
Just a few minutes later my phone dinged and his name lit up the screen
*Hey! You are welcome consider it a birthday gift. Hope you enjoyed Max's it is one of my favorite local places*
I couldn't help the warm feeling that enveloped me at his words. I decided that I would ask for a recommendation with the hopes that if he knew where I would maybe I would see him again.
*It was great! We are trying to decide were to get lunch in town tomorrow my sister is wanting to shop and recommendations?*
Ding
*Well personally I would go to Baloo Burgers you can't go wrong with it. They have a little bit of everything locals love it*
I smiled as I read the message.
*That sounds great! Thank you again for dinner. Hopefully I can see you again before we leave in a few days*
Ding
* I would like that too. I will see what I can do with my work schedule*
The last message came through as the girls made it back to the bench I had parked myself on. The girls immediately started joking and I could feel my face slowly growing redder. I drove back to our cabin and we proceeded to play board games for a couple hours while talking about our futures.
I hadn't told the girls but I had ulterior motives when I chose the location of the trip. The business I had applied for an internship with was located in the town and I planned to go visit hoping to secure an internship with them. I knew this was my chance to tell them
"so tomorrow I plan on running by the architectural firm I applied with while you guys shop"
"Sadie are you sure that is a good idea?" Kate asked with concerned look on her face.
"I have to try Kate" I responded "my dreams begin or end with this internship"
"Okay if you say so"
After this exchange we all decided to head to our room to sleep for the night. I quickly changed clothes and headed to bed still excited about the day's events.
I quickly drifted off to sleep beginning to dream. I thought I would have a peaceful night's sleep as I felt so comfortable and at home here but I was so so wrong.Eventually the pleasant dreams changed to the reoccurring nightmare I have had all of my life but this time it was a little different. This time there was sound usually I just watched everything play out in silence.
*Dream*
I watched as a toddler run through a familiar forest on unstable legs. I heard someone call out "Sadie! slow down!". Looking towards the source of the voice I see a woman that looks exactly like me except bright green eyes looked back at me.
She caught up with the child sweeping her up into your arms "Gotcha" the woman and child giggled as they continued to walk through the forest.
Looking up at the woman I could only assume was her mother Sadie spoke again "where my John John?" Her lip poking out as she asked.
"John Luke is training honey we will see him later" the mother answered a slight laughter in her voice.
She sat Sadie back on the ground and took her hand as they continued to walk though the woods a short distance. Through the trees a tall silhouette of a man can be seen approaching.
"Where is Daddy's little wolf?" A deep voice calls out as a muscular man with brown hair and my eyes came into view from the trees. At this Sadie took off running towards the man I could only imagine was her father. She jumped into the mans arms as he spun her in the air pulling her back down into a hug.
"Sean do you really think taking the afternoon off is a good idea?" The woman asked as she caught up to the child.
"Yes Marie, it will be fine Michael can handle the pack for one afternoon" he responded but the worry in his voice couldn't be missed "we haven't had any attacks in weeks it's okay, besides it is Sadie's birthday I want to spend time with you both before the p-a-r-t-y later"
"Okay Sean" she replied taking his hand and they continued to walk through the forest until they came upon a small clearing with a stream running through it. A red checkered picnic blanket was set up with a small wicker basket placed on one corner. The family sat and ate the picnic laughing as Sadie made faces and danced around. After eating the family played in the small clearing, splashing in the stream and chasing each other. Eventually they settled back onto the blanket soon after the expressions on the parents face changed from one of happiness to one of worry. Standing up the parents took defensive stances in front of Sadie.
There is a twig snap across the clearing and I see two large mud covered brown wolves step out from the trees. Worried for this small family I look back only to now see two large wolves standing where the parents had just been. The father replaced by a large pitch black wolf, the mother with a slightly smaller grey one. As the first two brown wolves stepped from the trees growling eight more made their way out encircling the family. Chaos ensued the 10 brown wolves attacked the two parents, the black wolf howled and more howls could be heard in the distance.
The fight was unfair and the grey wolf was attacked by 4 wolves at once blood and fur flew she managed to take down one of them but was quickly killed as well. Those three quickly turned their attention to the black wolf he fought back, taking down 6, but was over powered by the others falling at his daughters feet. At this point the child, Sadie, was crying absolutely beside herself making me wish I could help her.
The three remaining wolves approached the child howling and growls grew closer. The largest of the wolves took his paw and drew his claw down the child's left leg. Blood gushed from the wound growls exploded front the tree line then a bright flash of light. Once I could see again the 3 brown wolves that had been left lay on the ground dead and a small auburn headed boy pushed through a line of wolves running for the child taking off his shirt to stop the bleeding. He handed her a small bear and I woke up.
*End*
I woke up screaming tears rolling down my face for the child in the dream.
"Sade are you okay!?" I could hear Kate scream through my door as she came in to comfort me.
"Yeah yeah... Fine just the dream again" I replied trying to pull myself together.
"Need me to stay up with you" Kate asked while yawning
"No I'm fine." Wiping my face "I may just go sit on the porch for a while it usually helps at home"
"Okay just let me know if you need anything"
