“And what condition is that?” Damien asked with a scoff. “I will sign the Divorce but I’m taking the kids.”
“Nonsense,” he spat. “You should know there’s no way I’m letting you take the kids. How would you even take of them? You’ve nothing Carolina. Even the court is going to take my side.”
“I don’t care about your sick mentality Damien. I’m not going to let you take my kids away from me!” Anger rose at the pit of my stomach as I stared at Damien. How he be so cruel, he really is going to send me away and take my kids from me? No way!
I drew the piece of document I’m holding, on his face and stormed past him.
“Carolina!” He called after me immediately but I continued storming down the lobby heading to Kate’s ward to take my kids home. While Damien was behind me shouting my name like a wild dog.
When I got to the door, I stormed inside to meet a sight that made my heart drop to my feet.
It’s not the first time I’m seeing my kids bond so well with Kate but it suddenly didn’t sit well with me. I felt that sense of lose. Well how exactly do you react when your husband just asked for a divorce and your kids are right here having a nice time with his mistress?
They didn’t even noticed my present on time, it was Kate who was directly facing the door from the bed that saw me at once. And her countenance immediately changed. “What the hell are you doing here Carolina?” She barked but I just ignored her and walked towards my kids to take them out, before Damien will storm in here.
“It’s alright sweethearts visiting time is over let’s go home now.”I said to them, reach for their hands but to my shock, they immediately backed away from like I was the pleague, looking so scared. They scurried to the other side of Kate’s bed.
What’s going on?
“We don’t want to come with you mom.” Christabel said looking terrified.
I frowned and turn to Kate. She has a smirk on and I needed no one to tell me, she had done something with my kids.
Blood rushes through my veins. I could take every of her antics but no when she have to involve my kids.
I was to ask her what hell she did or say to my kids. Because something was definitely wrong. But then, Damien barged In still barking my name. “Carolina! Don’t you dare take the kids away.”
“What the hell is going on here Kate? What did you say do to them?”I asked, ignoring Damien.
“What I did to them?”She first feigned a frown and glanced at them. She then laughed and got serious. “I didn’t do anything to them Carolina. I just made them realize how evil their so-called mother could be.”
“What?” I exclaimed and glanced to my side, at Damien who just had a neutral expression on.
“Mommy! Did you really try to murder Aunt Kate? Is that why you didn’t want us to visit her?”Christopher asked, this time calmly and innocent and I went dumbstruck. Wait…. what…. murder? Did I hear wrong?
“Murder? Who told you that?”
“Well, I told them how you stabbed me and try to kill me. I mean they ought to know right?”Kate kept smirking as she stared at me. Even Damien got startled by her accusations. I mean I saw his face contorted in shock when I glanced at him but he didn’t say anything. And so was I.
My chest tightened excruciatively and my lungs refused to supply me air.
How could Kate say such horrible thing about me to my kids? All I wanted was to dive into her and tear her apart but Christina’s soft voice came.
“Mom, is it true? ”
I was still trying to recover from my shock but I managed.
I swallowed hard and walked closer to her.
My heart pained as she still flinched when I tried touching her. Does she see me as a monster?
“C’mon baby, You don’t believe your mommy could actually do such a thing right?”I said mildly, calculative and hurt as I squat to her level.
“But You’ve always hated Aunt Kate for no reason.” She said reasonably like a matured adult. Like she isn’t just 5 years old.
Well, my kids are too smart and this is one of the repercussions.
“No, no… I don’t hate her for no reason.”
“But you never let us get close to her when we want to. And she’s nice.” That was Christopher.
Well Kate can be a snake.
“And Aunt Kate can’t lie…?” Christiana mumbled, it was more like a question.
“ I can’t lie too. You can ask your dad. He was there.” I rasped out without thinking.
I was already loosing it. I couldn’t believe my kids would buy the lie Kate said to them. It took my kids to frown even harder at me and divert their gaze to where Damien was standing before it dawned on me what I just said. I just literally admitted to being there when Kate was stabbed which is going to make the situation more complicated. And I even told them to ask Damien!
Well, I don’t care. I was going to leave with the kids and that is what I did. I stood up and grab their hands to leave. “Let’s just go home now.”
“We don’t want to.” They tried yanking their hands away from me but I didn’t let go. And they began struggling insisting that they don’t want to go with me. The most painful part was that they were so terrified of me.
“That’s enough Carolina. They clearly don’t want come with you!”Damien dashed towards me as I refused to let go off them and he yanked them away from me. They quickly scurried to his side.
“Well, that’s because your conniving mistress told them lies avoid me!” I blasted at a full bleep. Tears glimmering in my eyes. At this time I don’t care what happens to my vocal cord. All I wanted was my kids. “Why don’t you tell them the truth!”
But then, Damien said the next words that made last piece of my heart, crashed to the ground, “I’ve already told you, you can’t have the kids. So maybe this just a good sign for you to get out of my life for good! Just leave.”
“No, Not so easy Damien,” Kate spoke from the bed and I turn to see her gritting her teeth. “Because She’s going to pay for what she did to me.”
“Stop being so delusional Kate. You stabbed yourself. And you should be the one who should watch out because I’m not going to let this slide. I’ll make you both regret this. You conniving bastards!”
“Then Let’s see how you’ll do all of that in jail then.” She threatened and I just scoffed. I was out of words. Low energy and just weak. If care isn’t taken, I would have broken down before them all but that would be too humiliating for me.
So I pulled myself together, snuffed in a good amount of air before storming out of the ward. I headed straight to the mansion.
From the moment I stepped in, tears broke free from my eyes and I couldn’t hold it in. Especially when my eyes catched the wedding photo of me and Damien.
Everything came back. My knees gave out and I crashed down on one of the coaches, crying so hard.
How could my own husband do this to me?
How could he easily want to get rid of me for his lover. The same person who left him broken years ago. How could he forget the sacrifices I made for him!
I was there for him, I was f*****g for him at his dying moments.
I loved him so much and he dare do this to me?
He even dare connived with his mistress to make my kids hate me?
My tears kept on falling and I let it. I’ll just cry it all out this once but I’m not going to suck over him or beg him, even though a part of me wanted to. He can have the kids for now, but I’m going to come back for them. I’ll claim them back. And Very soon they are going to realize who they’re up against. That’s a promise!
With that resolved in mind, I managed to wipe my tears and went to start packing up. After hours of packing,it was now evening and my next location was the hospital. I’ll go sign the divorce and leave. I’ll miss my kids but not too long. I would have taken this case to court but Damien is right. The court will give the kids to him since I apparently have nothing to my name.
“Wow! I want to assume you are finally leaving for good.” That was my mother-in-law voice the moment I arrived the living room with my luggages. Co-incidentally, she was just walking in.
I hissed angrily, really not in the mood for her tantrums and stormed past her but she barked after me. “Have you gone nuts? You are going to act like you didn’t see me?”
“I’m pretty sure you aren’t blind Rosemary,” I called her by her name for the first time and didn’t care if I was rude. I’ve hard a enough already. “And yes, I’m finally leaving the house for you and your son!”
A hot slap which I never saw coming landed across my face and it was from her, “how dare you speak to me in that manner, you filthy thing? Have you lost your manners?”
“No maybe you are one who need a brain reset!” And I gave her a more hotter slap on the go, which resonates loudly across the room.
And almost immediately, the door flung open.
“What the hell!” A familiar male voice bellowed.
I swiftly turned to see Damien stunned at the door, at the slap I just gave his mother but what made my heart break was my kids who also saw everything. They had a terrified and shocking expression on their face as they stared at me.
And while my brain was still processing everything, I didn’t even noticed there was Kate with them and two cops. One of the cops immediately said, “I guess you must be Mrs Carolina. You are under arrest for the attempted murder of miss Kate and the obvious assault of Mrs rose.”
