Cory POV
I can’t believe he bought the book I had been reading. I really had wanted to buy it and finish it but obviously didn’t have time to pay for it while I was fleeing. I knew I was trying to be cautious of this man but he had bought me a book and I really loved books. I grin at him as he stands and walks toward me to hand me the book.
When our hands touch, just slightly, it feels like an electric tingle goes through my body from the spot where his hand is touching mine. I have never felt anything like it; it gives me butterflies and makes my heart rush and my face flush. Opal has started panting and whining at me again. My mouth is dry and my body is clenching instinctively in a place I didn’t know I had any real muscle. I lick my lips, then bite the bottom one a little when I notice he is looking at me with the same, lustful look I could sense was on Opal’s face, and possibly my own.
Before I could fully assess the situation, he leans down and captures my lips in a kiss. It’s a deep kiss, full of need and I grab the back of his neck to pull him closer to me. He sinks to his knees so he’s down at my height as I sit on the edge of my hospital bed. He wraps his muscular arms around my waist and they make me feel small but protected and warm. He lightly bites my bottom lip making me suck in air and he uses the opportunity to explore my mouth with his tongue. There’s a warmth starting to spread between my upper thighs as I feel the same lustful need Opal has been whining about.
Then I hear the door open and my little brother, Mark, yell, “EWWWW! Mom, they’re kissing!”
I break the kiss and I’m sure I’m turning bright red with embarrassment. Lucas just gives me a small, triumphant smile. He stands up and goes to the door to finish ushering my family in. My entire, immediate family floods in, along with Ricky who’s beaming at my embarrassment.
“Glad to see you two are hitting it off.” Ricky teases.
“You haven’t changed a bit; just as much of a jerk as you ever were. Enjoying my embarrassment.” I stick my tongue out at him and he chuckles. I had missed my best friend so much and was thankful to have him back in my life. Even if his timing is terrible and he enjoys my misery.
“How are you feeling dear? Is there any pain? How’s your head?” My mom is checking me over and making sure I’m back to good health.
“I’m fine mom, just really hungry. Did I miss dinner? What time is it anyways?” My stomach rumbles again.
“It’s nearly midnight darling. You were out for quite a while.” Lucas offers, coming closer and smiles at me.
“I’ll have some food brought in right away!” Mom isn’t one to let anyone go hungry, least of all her own children. She is always worried we aren’t eating enough, despite having werewolf appetites.
While mom runs out to get food for me, dad and Connor sit down on the couch and start asking questions about my attackers. Lucas sits next to me on the edge of the bed and holds my hand. It seems a bit odd to me that I’m starting to feel so comfortable holding his hand with everything that happened.
“What did they look like? Did you catch their scent? Did they say anything to you?” it feels like a game of 20 questions.
“The man had one of those biker’s bandana things over his face and the other was in wolf form the whole time, he was a dark brown. I did catch their scent but I’ve never smelled it before. They didn’t say anything to me but I did notice zip ties and a sack that looked to be for my head nearby. I think they meant to kidnap me, not kill me, so the beating was just to subdue me.” I give them all the details I can while they nod.
Dad finishes his line of questions and then he and Connor leave to get some sleep. They plan to get up early to start tracking down leads. I have no idea what they will be able to find since I had such little information. Then a cart comes in loaded with food, there’s more than I could possibly eat and mom is beaming as she follows the kitchen staff member into my room.
“I got all your favorites and there’s enough for both of you since Lucas hasn’t left your side and likely also missed dinner.” She says as she smiles at Lucas for watching over me.
“Thanks mom, I’m starving.” My mouth is salivating already at the smell of the feast before me.
Lucas piles a plate with food and hands it to me, along with a fork and then goes about loading up a plate for himself. Mom excuses herself to go to bed and Emily and Mark follow her out. Em winks at me on her way out. She’s no doubt over the moon for me and ecstatic about the possibility of finding a mate to be ‘gooey’ over herself.
Lucas and I sit quietly stuffing our faces for a while before we finally start to feel full. I’m impressed at the damage to two of us have done to the cart of food; it’s mostly gone now.
“You should get some sleep darlin.” He says quietly.
“I probably should but I’ve been out for the whole afternoon and now I just don’t feel tired.” I sigh. “You can go back to sleep if you want though, you look like you could still use a bit more sleep. I’ll just read my new book.” I smile at him and pick up the book he bought me.
“That couch is terribly uncomfortable and I wasn’t sleeping well on it anyways.” He says, climbing up next to me in the hospital bed and getting himself comfortable.
“I’m still going to be up reading for a while.” I inform him as he snuggles into me, careful not to touch my side incase my ribs still hurt.
“Hmm mmm.” Was all I get out of him as he drifts off.
