Dawson
Gaia was without a doubt the most breathtaking wolf I had ever seen. Her fur was the color of the sun, soft and wavy, and her emerald eyes were even more beautiful in wolf-form. I shifted with her, cautiously staying back and simply watching as she shot up from the forest floor, and looked around in wide-eyed confusion, her thick tail slapping the foliage as she spun. I could sense Khason in the distance, watching from afar. He knew better than to be nearby, but couldn’t simply abandon his Alpha and Luna.
Gaia loosed a resounding, mesmerizing howl. Unconsciously I found myself stepping towards her, drawn in by her call.
At once, she spun towards the movement, hackles raised, her fur puffing up as she pulled back her lip, snarling at me. She charged. I was surprised by her speed, her strength. I actually had to dart out of the way, just missing her teeth closing where my throat had just been. She was going to be a fearsome Luna. Despite my wolf snapping at me to fight back, I bowed my head and lay down, removing any semblance of a threat. She was the only one I, the Alpha, would ever bow to.
She relaxed ever so slightly as I submitted to her, clearly not a threat. She licked her jaws and sniffed the air in my direction. She gave a quiet, confused whimper and c****d her head adorably.
Hi baby. I said quietly into her mind. She started, returning to her defensive position with a growl. It’s okay, Gaia. It’s just me. You know me.
She shook her beautiful wolf head, uneasy. She paced back and forth, eyeing me. I tried to be patient, knowing the wolf was in control at the moment. I kept my head down, snout deep in the grass, and tracked her movement. She darted at me, but I did not move from my spot. She huffed and, realizing I was not scared away she turned tail and darted of through the trees. I got up and trotted after her, keeping my distance so she didn’t feel like I was chasing her. Damn, but she was fast! I had to speed up to a run as I weaved through the trees after her trail. She was heading towards the eastern boarder of my lands.
Khase.
Alpha. He responded immediately.
Flank her, move her north.
Yes, Alpha.
I could smell him now, moving just south of us. I noted when Gaia smelled him too, turning instinctively North. She showed no signs of slowing, even as the moon started to head for the horizon and the sky started to lighten.
Gaia. I called, as gently as I could. It’s alright, baby. You don’t have to run from me. You know me.
I felt a flash of confusion back. That was good. It was almost a mindlink. That’s it, baby. Slow down, Luna. Come talk to me. Let me help.
We were into the mountains by the time her pace slowed enough for me to see her again. She loped through the sparse forest, weaving slowly, glancing back at me as I slowly closed the distance between us.
Hi honey. I crooned. It’s okay. You’re okay. Can you stop running? I can help you.
She slowed further as she entered a small clearing and turned back to face me. I approached very slowly. When I entered the clearing, I sat. And waited. And waited. Come on…
…Dawson?
I wanted to do a backflip. Yes, Gaia?
…What the f**k is happening?
