Chapter Three

2142 Words
Ally’s POV Feeling like someone is staring at me and not being able to figure out who, just creeped me out. I finished on the treadmill and decided that I would go into the female weight room. Aside from the pool, this was the gyms best feature. This area allowed women to work out without feeling like guys are gawking at them. I did a few sets of weight lifting but soon got tired of it. Strength training was definitely not my cup of tea. I could do cardio all day long but I was just never a fan of lifting. As much as I hated it, I had to admit that I was pretty good at it and surprisingly strong for someone my size. At 5’6” and 120 lbs, I could lift almost twice my body weight. One of the reasons I preferred to lift in this area is because I can avoid guys commenting on how much I could lift. Women tended to mind their own business and concentrate on themselves. It was rare that they even noticed me. I finished my reps and laid down on a mat to do some stretching before heading to the pool. I took a moment to pull out my phone and check on Syd. I bet she was having the time of her life while I sat here sweating like a pig. Me: How’s the Party? Syd: Pretty good. Lots of hot guys. You should have come with us! She followed the text with a picture of her and her girlfriends surrounded by shots and guys. I had to admit that most of them were very good looking. Me: Next time. Syd: You promise? Did I want to promis her that? She seemed disappointed when I told her I didn’t want to go tonight and to be honest a small part of me wanted to get dolled up and have a few drinks. I hoped I wouldn’t regret agreeing to this. Me: Yes, I promise. But next weekend. I still want to take this weekend to relax. Syd: Yes!!!!!! We are going to have so much fun. I’ve already been invited to two different parties. If we play it right we can go to both. One of them is at a private mansion off campus. They are planning on having a bonfire at that one so we can end the night with that party. Me: Ok ok. Calm down. You’re already giving me anxiety and it is still a week away. Now I really have to go for a swim otherwise I won’t be able to get any sleep tonight. Have fun and be safe. Call me if you need me. Xoxo Syd: Will do dollface! I put my phone away and headed to the locker room. I quickly changed into my bathing suit and headed to the pool. I showered, put my goggles on and started my laps. I usually swam at least 50 laps but since it has been a while I hoped to get in more like 100. That way I will exhaust myself and definitely sleep all night. Owen’s POV I watched as Mike furiously texted on his phone. I wondered what he was up to. What I knew about him was nothing good. He had a reputation of being a womanizer and a brute. There were rumors of him forcing himself onto the she-wolves in his pack. He was next in line to be Alpha. I wasn’t technically a rogue, I was a lone wolf. I had received permission from the Chancellor to travel peacefully through his territory. As long as I didn’t cause any problems, I didn’t have to answer to any Alpha. I couldn’t see myself submitting to another Alpha and didn’t feel like dealing with politics if they found out who/what I was. Mike was the epitome of the asshole alpha male. He was arrogant, violent and dismissive. He thought because he was going to be alpha that he was better than everyone else. There wasn’t an ounce of humility to him. I honestly felt sorry for his mate. She would know nothing but terror being mated to him. I wasn’t going to take my eyes off of him. I already knew that he had his eyes set on the dark haired beauty and found it suspicious that he was lingering outside of the gym alone. Before I could contemplate further on Mike’s intentions, the girl stepped out of the gym and headed to her car. She had her head down as she searched her bag. I assumed she was looking for her car keys. I regretted not finding the opportunity to speak with her and learn her name. I vowed that the next time I saw her that I would speak to her. Thankfully, she found her keys quickly and got in her car safely and drove away. I was so preoccupied watching her go, I did not notice where Mike had gone. I assumed he went into the gym or left seeing as though the object of his lust was gone. Since she was safe, I didn’t bother to find out. I wasn’t in the mood to have an unnecessary confrontation. Instead, I decided that I would let my wolf out and go for a run. I locked my wallet and phone in my glove compartment and headed to the woods near the gym. I removed my clothing and let the transformation take over. The familiar feel of bones cracking and reshaping engulfed me with warmth and comfort. As an alpha, I am strongest in my wolf form. Once on all fours, I retreated into the back of my mind and let my wolf, Darren, take control. Darren ran for hours and miles in the forest making sure to stay on neutral territory. He hunted and killed two rabbits when he got hungry. He sat on his hind legs and enjoyed his full belly and the feel of the wind in his fur. I pushed forward in our mind and told him to head back to the car. We stopped at a lake to drink and wash off the remains of our meal. The lake was right on the border of claimed territory. Darren was about to head back when we heard a snap behind us. With raised hackles, he stood tall and growled. We could hear someone shift and walking towards us. When the figure stepped into the moonlight, we could see that it was Mike. “Shift!” he said to me. I could tell that he was trying to use his alpha voice on me but it wouldn’t work. “I said shift rogue!” he yelled. I snarled at him and followed it up with a wolf’s version of a laugh that sounded like a muffled bark. His alpha voice had absolutely no affect on me. There was not even a tingle of submission to this pathetic wolf. I shook my head and just stared at him refusing to back down. Mike looked confused and angry. His confidence was waning until three wolves crept up behind him. I could easily take all three of them but I am not the kind of person to kill unnecessarily. I take control back from Darren and shift. Once I shifted, the three wolves followed suit. They were easily recognizable as the three guys from the gym. “What do you want Mike?” I said through gritted teeth. “Is that any way to speak to your alpha?” He smirked. “You are no alpha of mine and your Father’s land ends at that lake. So I ask again, what do you want?” “You are in no position to question me rogue. I’ve seen you watching me and I know you don’t have a pack. It would be foolish for you to stay in this territory. I’m giving you one warning to leave before I force you to leave.” His words came out confident but I didn’t miss the hint of fear in his eyes. Since his friends were behind him, they had no idea what a fake Mike truly was. They may be fooled however, I would never stand down to anyone, especially him. “I’ve been granted permission from the Chancellor to travel in his territory as long as I stick to unclaimed and neutral land. You have an issue with that? Then have your Alpha take it up with the Chancellor. Otherwise, leave me the hell alone. I want nothing to do with you or your insignificant pack.” What I really wanted to say was that I could rip his throat out without blinking but I promised the Chancellor that I would inform him if I decided to challenge an alpha for a pack. I had no intentions of that and just wanted to be left to my own devices. This embarrassment of an alpha’s son had other plans. Mike’s face turned red with anger and he faltered when his friends started whispering behind him. I could tell he was mind linking them and just waited to see what their next move would be. I wouldn’t initiate a fight but I would most definitely not run from one. This kid had no idea who he was messing with. Darren had been cooped up for months and would love nothing more than to teach him a lesson. “It’s time someone taught you how to respect your superior.” One of his friends said. I laughed and turned in a circle looking around. “And where is this so-called superior? I don’t see anything but a little boy trying to play at alpha.” I started to c***k up at my own taunts. Just then, they all shifted into their wolf forms and attacked me. Mike reached me before I had the chance to shift and I punched him in his snout and he flew against a tree. His friends hesitated and in that moment, I leapt in the air towards them and shifted. Darren bit down on the shoulder of one wolf while the others tried to attack him from behind. He swiftly threw him in the same direction as Mike and faced the remaining two wolves. There was obvious fear in their eyes. They had no idea I was this strong, a direct indication of an alpha. Mike and the other wolf were now on their feet again and slowly approaching. I needed to end this. I growled and let out my alpha aura to force submission. Something I haven’t done in years. Shock and astonishment filled their eyes before they were forced to the ground along with their heads. Mike’s body slumped with the rest of them but he was trying to fight the submission. I pushed my alpha aura even harder and Mike was forced to his belly. The other three easily submitted and had their necks and bellies exposed to me. Once Mike tilted his neck towards me, I released them. I shifted back into my human form and laughed again. “You’ve obviously made a mistake Mike. You have no idea who you are dealing with. I suggest you don’t cross me again. Next time, I will rip your throat out. Alpha’s son or not, you just attacked on neutral ground. I would be justified in killing all four of you in an unprovoked attack but I will give you a chance to live. I will give you five seconds to decide your own fate.” I gave them a bored look and his three friends took off into the woods. They apparently were not as dumb as they looked. Mike turned and followed suit behind them. He stopped at the edge of the woods and turned one last time. “This isn’t over Owen. Yes, I know who you are. Keep looking over your shoulder because when you least expect it, I will kill you.” I laughed again as he turned and ran with his tail between his legs. He dared to threaten me when I just forced him to submit to me and I wasn’t even his alpha? The kid is delusional and weak. However, I knew he was going to be a problem. For his pack’s sake, I hoped that he wasn’t as foolish as he sounded. But if it came down to him or myself, I would choose myself. I was just about to shift back to Darren when I heard another snap of a twig behind me. Could Mike have circled around me? Was this i***t trying to attack me from behind? I turned and crouched to shift when I realized it wasn’t Mike. Standing at the edge of the woods stood the blond haired girl from the gym. Last edited 3/6/22
