Chapter 4

1298 Words
Catherine "Why am I the one you're calling, Catherine? You should be calling your husband to buy the food you and your baby want." Catherine pouted at what her friend Brad said. She called him because she wanted to ask him to buy s'mores for her. She was browsing her social media account when she suddenly saw it and got a craving. She wanted to eat it right then and there. And she wanted to indulge in all her cravings because, after all, it was for her baby. And she remembered that there's a*****e near the company where Brad works, so she called him to buy it for her. She didn't want to bother him because she knew he was busy, but she was too lazy to go out. And she thought she'd just bother him because she knew he couldn't resist her. "You know our situation, Brad," she said to her friend. Honestly, Brad knew about their situation with Travis. She had confided in him when they met up once. The three of them were friends, including Anastacia, and the two of them knew what was happening in her life because she only opened up to them. Brad told her why she let it happen, why she got involved with Travis, knowing that he didn't love her. She didn't answer Brad because even she couldn't understand why she agreed to marry Travis, knowing he didn't love her, knowing her life would be miserable with him. Perhaps one reason that pushed Catherine to marry Travis was the child in her womb. She wanted her child to have a complete family. But it seems like she made the wrong decision. Still, Catherine hasn't lost hope that one day Travis will accept them, that one day he'll treat her as his wife. "Come on, Brad. Buy it for me already. Don't you feel sorry for me?" she said to Brad. Despite her emotions, Catherine couldn't help but smile when she heard Brad's sigh on the other end of the line. It meant one thing: he agreed to her request. She was right, he couldn't resist her. "Okay, fine," he agreed to her request. "Oh, I love you, Brad," she said with a laugh. "Tsk," he responded. "Just wait for your s'mores," he added. "Okay. Call me when you're here," she said to Brad. "And be careful on your way here," she added. Brad bid her farewell. She waited for his call. After an hour, she got up from lying on her bed when her cellphone rang. And when she checked who was calling, she couldn't help but smile when she saw it was Brad. She quickly answered the call. "Hello?" "I'm already outside your house," he informed her. "Okay. I'm coming," she replied excitedly. "Careful when you go down," Brad cautioned, noticing the excitement in her voice. "I will," she replied. She didn't wait for him to say more, hanging up the call. She put down her cellphone and headed out of her room. Despite her excitement to eat her s'mores, she still went down the stairs carefully. She didn't want to have an accident, didn't want anything bad to happen to her baby. After going down the stairs, she continued walking out of the house. She spoke to Travis's security guard to open the gate. The guard immediately complied. When the gate opened, she saw Brad's black car right away. She approached it with a smile, and it seemed Brad had already spotted her because the driver's side door opened before she even reached it. After that, Brad got out. As soon as she reached him, she held out her hand. Brad handed her the item he was holding, shaking his head. She immediately focused on it, looking into the paper bag. Her mouth watered when she saw her s'mores. She couldn't wait any longer, taking one out and devouring it. She even closed her eyes as the deliciousness filled her mouth. "Starving?" Catherine opened her eyes when she heard Brad's voice. She raised an eyebrow when she saw the playful smile on his lips as he looked at her. He was leaning against the pillar of his car, his arms crossed over his chest, and he seemed thoroughly entertained watching her. Catherine ignored Brad and continued eating her s'mores. After a while, she looked up at him again when she felt him wiping the side of her lip. "You're such a messy eater, Catherine," he commented, still wiping the side of her lip. She was about to push his hand away when they were startled by the loud honking of a car. Catherine was caught off guard, and in her surprise, the s'mores she was holding fell. The hell? She looked up towards the car that honked and couldn't help but be surprised when she saw the familiar car in front of them. Travis's car. But why did he arrive so early? This wasn't the usual time he came home. She jumped when the car honked again. After a while, a security guard approached them. "Sir, can you please move your car? It's blocking the road," the security guard said to Brad, since his car was indeed obstructing the path. When she glanced at Brad, she noticed his serious expression as he gazed at Travis's car. Before he followed the security guard's request, he grasped her elbow to guide her to the side. After that, he got into his car to move it out of the way. Catherine followed Travis's car with her eyes as it entered the gate until it disappeared from her sight. She didn't wait for Brad to get out of the car, instead approaching it. She knocked on the window on his side. He rolled down the car window so they could face each other. "How much will I pay?" she asked, raising the paper bag she was holding as their eyes met. She noticed his furrowed brow. "I'm not asking for payment, Catherine. A thank you is enough," he replied. She smiled. "Okay. Thanks for the s'mores," she said. "I'll head inside too. Take care on your way home, okay?" she said to him. Brad didn't answer for a moment, but after a while, he nodded. "I will. Take care too. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call," he also told her. She nodded in response. She bid him farewell again. She stepped aside to wait for him to leave, but it seemed like he had no intention of leaving until she entered the gate. So she just waved goodbye. After that, she turned around to head inside. But before she could fully enter the house, she stopped when she heard Travis's cold voice calling out her name. "Catherine." She turned towards the source of the voice. And she couldn't help but be taken aback when she saw the cold expression on Travis's face. He took a step closer to her, his gaze never leaving hers. She couldn't help but feel her heart beat faster as he drew nearer. Travis towered over her, and she had to tilt her head up to meet his gaze. She gripped the paper bag she was carrying tighter as their eyes met, and she saw coldness and anger reflected in them. "I don't care if you flirt, Catherine. But don't ever bring him to my house," he said to her in a cold, baritone voice, anger evident in his eyes. "He is Brad--" "I don't care who he is," he cut her off. "I'll repeat, don't bring your man to my property. If you do it again, pack your bags because I'll drag you out of my house." he warned her. Travis didn't even give her a chance to explain herself. He left her dumpfounded.
