Chapter 1 The First Kiss
The loud music shook the wooden floor beneath my shoes. I stood inside the dark hallway of the Maune house, my back pressed against the cold wall. I knew I should not be at my brother's secret party. Nathan told me to stay in my room, but I was bored. Now that I was standing in this quiet, shadowy hall, my heart was beating fast. I felt scared. I wanted to turn back, but the dark corridor felt too long and scary to walk through alone.
Suddenly, a low voice came from the dark corner near the library door.
"Are you looking for your brother, little girl?"
I gasped and stepped back, but my shoulders hit the cold wood behind me. Lucas Blacksmith stepped into the faint light coming from the end of the hall. He had messy dark brown hair, bright blue eyes, and a very handsome face. He was wearing a dark leather jacket, and he looked dangerous. He walked closer and closer until there was no space left between us. He blocked my path so I could not run away.
"Lucas... please," I whispered. My hands trembled as I rested them against the hard leather on his chest. "Nathan will kill you if he sees you touching me."
"Let him try," Lucas said, his deep voice sending a shiver straight down my body.
He did not back away. Instead, he moved even closer until I could feel the heat radiating from his broad chest. His strong hand reached up and grabbed my jaw gently, his thumb slowly tracing my bottom lip. His eyes were dark with desire as he looked down at my mouth.
"You have been watching me all night, Isabelle," he murmured, leaning his head down so his lips almost touched my ear. "Do not lie to me."
"I have not— uhmmm” I tried to say, but the words got stuck in my throat.
Before I could finish my sentence, Lucas stopped talking. He wrapped one big arm around my waist, pulled me hard against his body, and slammed his mouth down on mine.
I let out a soft gasp into his mouth, and he took that moment to kiss me deeper. His lips were hot and forceful, moving against mine with intense passion. I felt my face getting hot, and a wave of electricity shot through my whole body. I knew this was wrong. He was my brother's best friend, a dangerous man I was supposed to avoid. My mind told me to push him away, but my body refused to listen.
Lucas groaned low in his throat, a sound that made my knees feel weak. He pulled my body so tight against his chest that I could feel every hard muscle. His other hand slid up into my wavy hair, holding my head still as his mouth tasted mine over and over again. His tongue brushed against my lips, teasing me, and a soft moan escaped my lips.
Instead of pushing his chest, my fingers gripped his leather jacket tight. I pulled him closer to me, giving in to the heat burning inside my skin. My breath came fast and heavy as his mouth moved down to my jaw line and then down to the side of my neck. He bit my soft skin gently, making me gasp and arch my back into his chest.
"You are so soft, Isabelle," Lucas whispered against my skin, his breath hot and ragged. "I have wanted to do this all night."
He brought his mouth back to my lips, kissing me with even more hunger. His hand slid down my back, pressing my hips directly against his hard body. I wrapped my arms around his neck, burying my hands in his dark hair as I kissed him back just as hard. I forgot about the party, I forgot about the noise, and I forgot about the rules. All I could feel was his lips, his warm hands, and the intense heat spreading through my blood.
He pressed me harder against the wall, his weight pinning me comfortably in place as his mouth devoured mine. My head spun with excitement and fear. Every time he pulled my lower lip between his teeth, a gasp left my mouth, and he drank in every sound I made. I felt completely trapped by him, and I loved every second of it.
"Tell me to stop," Lucas muttered against my lips, his blue eyes dark as he pulled back just an inch. "Tell me you want me to leave you alone."
I looked up into his eyes, my breath coming in short, heavy gasps. My lips felt swollen and hot from his kisses. "I...uhmm”
I could not say the words. I did not want him to stop.
Lucas let out a dark smile, seeing the answer in my eyes. "That is what I thought," he whispered, and his mouth captured mine once again, deeper and more possessive than before.
Suddenly, a loud sound broke through the heavy silence of the dark hallway.
SNAP.
It was the unmistakable sound of heavy leather shoes stepping onto the hard floorboards, coming from the shadows directly behind us.
