CHAPTER 12-VISITING AND FORGIVING

1162 Words
Gill arrived at the airport with a dashing glare. 'He was so close to finding Laurel', he thought. He hopped in the nearest and cheapest aeroplane while it sped off to Havarly Hills. In truth, that was the only aeroplane directed to Havarly Hills and Gill got in it just in time before take off. "Excuse me. Does this flight go straight to Havarly Hills?", Gill questioned. "I am not sure, ask the flight attendant", his side passenger commanded. The plane was not well facilitated and had a lack of seats. Only about 15 passengers were onboard the plane that early morning. It also contained scratch marks which looked like they were caused by a racoon of some sort as well as only one properly working engine. It looked like it had not been maintained for a long time. The only upside to the plane was the food. It had all categories of fruits and drinks that the eye could behold. A few minutes in the flight and Gill called the attention of a well-dressed woman. She wore a sky blue suit and a navy blue trouser which made her look more decent. "Pls, I want an apple, a pineapple and two Coca-Cola", Gill requested. The flight attendant smiled as she left to place the order. She was a well looking woman who seemed like she was in her late forties. She had a few wrinkles in all the right places, a well placed smile and a can do attitude which made her appealing to the eye. She arrived with Gill's order about the same time the co-pilot announced, "We are experiencing some turbulence. Pls, hold steady and stay calm". Gill gave half the slice of his apple to his seat mate and her seemingly two year old who seemed to be starving. "Here you go", Gill said as he beamed a cheerful smile. "Oh thanks. You don't know how much I need this", Mrs. Favour said. "Thank you s....", came the little baby's voice which was interrupted by the unnoticed apple which diverted it's way into his mouth. Gill felt good for what he had just done. He hoped to do the same for Laurel after she had accepted him back into her life again. Gill arrived at Havarly Hills and began searching for Laurel. The sight was not one to behold. It looked so rough and tattered with bad roads and a repulsive smell. Gill began to wonder how Laurel had lived in such a crumbly place for such a long period of time. He took it with the fact that she had no where else to go. He began asking for if anyone had seen Laurel. Obviously, no one gave him a positive response. It was getting late and noone gave him the answer he desired. Now, a man who was sitting behind him when he queried about Laurel finally spoke. He had a long white beard and wore a blue guy-gown claiming to be the wisest in the area. "The girl you seek is in the centre of the hills, just across these hills". Gill saw the sincerity on his face so he refused to ask further questions. He arrived there and looked out for Laurel. He couldn't find her but instead found four angry men looking like they were about to beat him up. It was at that moment that Gill realised he had been tricked. It then became late and Gill sought for some where to stay. He should have came prepared because for a place as poor as that, he was never going to see anyone to let him stay for free and with all his money stolen, he had no choice than to sleep on the dirty and unkept streets. 'I will sleep here and look for her first thing tomorrow morning', he thought as his eyes zoned out to sleep. The next morning sprung by rather quickly. It was noticed by Gill due to the routhiness of the steps and the bright light that flashed on his slightly pale eyes. Gill continued the search screaming 'Laurel' wherever he went until finally the answer arrived with a vibration in his pants. Gill picked it up and heard Dennis say, "And I forgot to tell you, she stays at No. 10 H.T Street near the main highway". "Couldn't you have told me that before I got here?", Gill questioned. "Sorry an honest mistake", Dennis said as she hung up on Gill. Lucky for Gill he was already on H.T Street so he just had to find No. 10. With much searching he finally came across an apartment. It had a thatched roof and holes around it. It looked like a place that not even a mad man would have requested to stay. 'Well, this is the place', Gill thought to himself. He then knocked on the patched up door with mild force as a little girl of about nine years came answering, "Yes, who is it", Sandra said as she opened the door. Seeing a strange man, she immediately contacted the presence of her mother, Laurel. "Yes sweet heart who is at.....", Laurel was speechless when she caught sight of Gill while adjusting her wrapper. His clothes were ruined and he was drenched but even with all that still looked exceptionally stunning. The two starred at each other for a while in complete silence before Sandra broke the silence with a sneeze. "Oh, yes. What are you doing here?", Laurel asked while giving Sandra signs to head off inside. Gill took a deep breath and hesitated for a while before speaking, partly without breathing. "After the divorce, I remarried and then cheated on my wife with another woman. We got arrested and my wife divorced me but luckily wi... with the help of Dennis, I have found you and now I seek your forgiveness. Pls, forgive me. I ask you with the deepest of my heart to forgive me. It was me who purposely hid the papers from the court. I thought the marriage wouldn't work out but I was wrong. It was also me who killed your mother. I felt like she got more attention from you than me. Pls, forgive me for all my atrocities. You are all I have left", Gill pleaded while going down on his knees. Either because Gill was the last hope of Laurel or she still had hidden feelings for Gill but she called him over for a hug and then progressed a kiss. "I forgive you", Laurel said beaming a smile with both their eyes full of tears. Gill refused to tell Laurel the incident of his drinking or gambling habit and instead held that burden inside him refusing to let go. Laurel brought Gill inside while he gave them some food and bought a better place for them to stay. Gill and Laurel smerked at each other while Sandra watched them in confusions.
