Aurora turned angrily and walked to the elevator. * * * * Lindsey did all right during the days. It was the nights that were hard to get through. After Monday night’s celebration at Morton’s there were working dinners every evening, and informal sessions afterwards. The Director was there every day and every evening, and he wanted to have a quiet, one-on-one chat with each of his operatives. Cletus Berry’s turn came Tuesday night. There seemed to be no pattern to the sequence of meetings. You just went when the Director called. Richelieu had got his pre-International Surety training in the FBI during the last years of the J. Edgar Hoover regime. Sometimes he seemed to think he was Hoover redivivus. Lindsey was sitting at a desk in the Embassy Suites, preparing for Wednesday’s seminars
