UNTOLD TALE OF THE NINE TAILED

Surrounded by dark clouds at the top and smoke all around, stood the black mystic mountains. There was a forest around the mountain and it is said that all kinds of creatures reside ther. Over the years, the humans have managed to build a fence around their village to keep their children safe and the creatures out. The few brave men that have gone outside the wall always came back with different tales of the supernatural creatures they had spotted roaming the mountains. Fear consumed the people, especially women and children, after hearing these tales and they always believed that staying within the great wall would keep them safe. One creature that was never spoken about because the people didn't have the facts was the nine tailed fox. It had been spotted once by the guards at the gates and the horror with which they described this creature was terrifying. They had said that this creature was everything like a fox but it had nine tails! And from what they saw, it ran with the speed of light. After that one time, this creature had never been spotted again and people were beginning to think that it was not real. One of the guards who had seen the creature was a very good sculptor. He was so sure about what he had seen that he made an image of this beast in the middle of the city. It was a beautiful sculpture and many always stopped to look at it whenever they passed by. The people didn't have a name for this creature so they called it the nine tailed fox. However, as no one else had seen the beast, people began to assume that it was just a myth. Years passed and the great sculptor died. The image was still standing but not long after wards, many began to forget about the dead man's story. The few who thought that this mythical fox existed, believed that there was only one of it's kind. They hoped to see it some day, believing it was a creature of good. ************ In the mountains, it was always dark and the only sounds that could be heard was the chirping of birds and what sounded like the snores of a giant. At times, it could be so loud that it shook the mountains and could also be heard in the human village. This was one of the many reasons people never thought of going up to the mountains. On the other side of the mountain, a human figure stood and observed a shiny object that was stuck on the trunk of a large tree. This object seemed to be the only source of light in that part of the forest. Suddenly, the figure took his fingers which looked like claws and began trying to remove the object. "What are you doing?" He heard a female voice behind him. He didn't turned as he continued and he felt her draw closer. "I'm trying to take it somewhere safe", he answered without looking at her. "It's not safe to leave it here". "How is it that it is no longer safe?" the female voice asked again. "The humans would never think of coming here so the crystal is safe". "You know how inquisitive the humans are becoming. They seem to be evolving everyday and they are getting smarter too. The dyna-crystal is our most treasured possession and you know how dangerous it can be if it falls into the hands of humans. I have to get it out of here", he said as he continued clawing at the crystal. The female sighed heavily and sat on one of the big roots of the tree as she watched him. "I'm tired of living like this", she suddenly said and that's when he turned to look at her. "We have lived four hundred and sixty years of our lives roaming this forest. We are supposed to live for a thousand years and I'm already tired of it." The male said nothing as he turned away from her. He was used to her complaints already. He managed to take out the crystal and he wrapped his hand firmly around it. The light it produced suddenly went off and all was dark again. The female looked at the male and his sea blue eyes shone in the darkness as he stared down at the crystal. She knew her eyes were like that too and she wished she had something different. Something more... Humanlike. She was tired of living in the mountains. "I also want to be human", he muttered. "I want to live like them and just grow old already". "Finally, we're on the same side", she beamed as she rose to her feet. "I know someone that could help us". The male stared at her for a long time before nodding his head. He explained to her that he needed to hide the crystal first before they headed to where she wanted to take him. Together, they leapt and out of the darkness and the instant their bodies got exposed to the moonlight, they transformed into foxes, only that they had nine tails each. The two were the nine tailed foxes of the the mystic mountains. They didn't know how they were born but they suddenly found themselves in existence. They didn't have names but all they knew was that they were of the opposite s*x. They soon realized that they could transform their appearances into that of humans but only for a short while. After living in the mountains and roaming around it for over four hundred years, the two had suddenly gotten tired of living like that. They had been watching the humans from afar and they wanted to be like them. Humans lived really short lives compared to theirs but they seemed to have so much to keep them occupied till they died. The two were naive about what being a human really meant because they never got too close and that spiked their curiosity for some human adventure. One thing that fascinated the female fox was when she heard the cries of a new born human baby. There was so much joy when something like that happened. Her super hearing sense made it possible to hear it all from the mountains. And that was one thing she wished to experience. She often wondered why her male counterpart never considered mating with her. She had seen animals mating and sometimes, she could hear when the humans did it too but see had never experienced that and it fuelled her wish to become human.
