Chapter 19 Maggie let Steffy go home at two o’clock on Friday. It was her last day. Maggie told her that she’d been a good employee, that she’d give a good reference, and that she’d pay her until five. The appointment book had a line through the afternoon so there were no appointments scheduled. Maggie would be very happy to see Allison on Monday morning. Maggie looked at her desk. There were papers to be signed, and the bag containing her sandwich from the coffee shop in the lobby still sat there unopened. One hour and Craig would be here. He’d said “we” but Maggie hadn’t asked who else was included in the meeting. Hopefully Richard Deems would be here, too. Or maybe it’d be Wendell.
