Chapter 39
That first day three months later
The doorbell puzzled Maggie. She couldn’t imagine who it could be. She hadn’t ordered anything to be delivered and it was almost dinnertime. She’d just arrived home from the office.
“Yes?” she answered through the speaker and was surprised to hear, “Hi. It’s me. Can I come up?”
“Cameron! Of course!” She smiled as she pushed the button to unlock the front door. She opened her apartment door, and then went back to the kitchen to turn off the burner under the water she’d started to boil for tea.
She walked back into the living room just as she heard the elevator ding its arrival.
“Cameron! It’s good to see you!” she said, her arms stretched out to greet her friend.
