Ending Year Two
“Maggie, the street near the government buildings looks a mess,” Pauly reported. He had gotten Sara home and himself back to the hotel just as government troops began patrolling the streets. When Pauly asked, the manager at the front desk of the hotel reported that there had been some disturbances at the presidential offices but no one knew why.
“Was anyone killed?” Maggie asked. It was early morning in Baltimore. She’d been asleep when the phone rang.
“Two or three in the first attack. Another one when the riots broke out. That’s if you believe the government reports. There were quite a few injured. The city’s under martial law right now.”
