Janet didn’t hear the commotion of Nurse Blanchard who discovered her in the bathroom a half-hour later, or the screams of the ambulance that rushed her to the hospital emergency room. Dr. Hearon arrived at the hospital shortly afterwards and pumped her stomach.
She survived and was released and returned home the following day. Layton flew in from Washington and talked with Dr. Hearon.
“The hospital records will show that she was in for food poisoning.” Dr. Hearon said, “But I think she should see a psychiatrist. That was a lethal dose she took. If Nurse Blanchard hadn’t found her when she did Janet could have died.”
