It seemed no one identified Layton at the bath house. Living with the fear of discovery proved to be enough to discourage further episodes. His sulking behavior over the loss of Harry made him difficult to live with. He became moody, impatient, demanding and less attentive to his duties in the Senate. Once he even tried to get Janet to go to bed with him, but she refused creating an even greater distance between them. Janet assumed he must have found another lover some six months later since he became his normal self. They became allies again but Janet never let herself get too close to Layton. She interpreted his escapade at the bath house as a betrayal of their truce.
