CHAPTER THREE

1260 Words
Donald's parents are sitting in the living room, reminiscing on how to make the marriage arrangement work. “Dear, our son is adamant about just going on a lunch date with Agnes.” Barr. Jerry said to his wife. “I'm also surprised o. I just received his call not long ago. He was just ranting on the phone that he is never going to consider Agnes." She narrated to her husband "The only thing I know is that the earlier he accepts her, the better it will be for him.” He replied her "So, what else are we going to do to make this arrangement work?” She asked her husband Barr. Jerry was deep in thought, thinking about how to convince Donald into an affair with Agnes. Agnes horned and it took a while for Sule to open the gate. “Where is this foolish man?” She said disgustingly “Sule, Sule” She shouted Sule ran approaching her with a kettle in his hand. Agnes got out of her car and walked in through the pedestrian door. She didn't wait for an explanation, she hijacked the kettle from his hand and turned the water on him. The next time this nonsense repeats itself, you won't believe what I'll do to you. She said, following a loud hiss. She threw her key at him and ordered him to bring her car in. She walked in furiously and her Mom collided with her on her way, “Calm down. To what do we hold this emotion?” Her mother asked “Mom, I'm frustrated already. I want to be left alone.” She said walking away Her mother placed a video call to Mrs. Jerry In those seconds, her phone rang. Doubting who could be calling at that time, surprisingly, it is her friend, Mrs George. She faced her husband, “Honey, I want to pick up this call. It's Mrs Jerry on the line.” She said to him as her head was down on her mobile phone “Go ahead, dear. Let's hear what she has to say.” Her husband said to her “Her Majesty,” She said smiling at her friend, Mrs George “My friend with the glowing skin" She responded laughing at her gently “You both have started with your flatteries” Barr. Jerry said jokingly as everyone threw out laughing gas into the atmosphere “God bless the barrister,” Mrs George said in response to his joke with a smile radiating all over her face. “How's Donald, my son?” Mrs George asked “He's fine o. And how about our beautiful Agnes?” Mrs. Jerry said amazingly “That girl. She just barged in now. She said she needed time alone. She should be fine, I guess.” Mrs. George said in assurance “Even Donald, my son, called a while ago, just chewing some words I don't even understand over the phone, and I told him to be driving home.” Mrs Jerry responded gazing at her friend “I don't even know what is wrong with these children. I suggested Donald should reach out to Agnes for a lunch date, but he refused.” Barr. Jerry cut in “These children think they are wise. But we need to let them know we came to this world before them and we set the pace.” Mrs. George said stuttering “Exactly, the point.” Mrs. Jerry answered in agreement “I think, we still have to force them to see each other and start something solid with each other. Or else, their inheritance is at stake.” Barr. Jerry added “Wow, this is the real deal. This is perfect. And I'm sure, they won't want to watch their inheritance vanish into the thin air.” Mrs. George said joyfully “Honey, this idea is beautiful. I love it. You are still as intelligent as I knew you to be.” She said staring at her husband with a round of applause “Smiles. Thanks, my dear.” Barr. Jerry responded They all laughed. Mrs. George was filled with great excitement. “I am sure when my husband hears about this, he will shout for joy as well.” Mrs. George soliloquized smiling Donald drove in, and he took a deep breath. Barr. Jerry and his wife peeped through the window to see whose car it was, and they confirmed the arrival of their son. “My dear, our son is back. We will speak some other time. Enjoy the rest of your day. Bye.” Mrs. Jerry nodded her farewell as they waved at each other. Donald walks in, and he meets his parents in the living room, jubilating. He waited and started guessing the reason for their outburst of laughter. “Mom, Dad. Is there any good news?” He said in amusement “Welcome back, son. Have your seat.” His dad said to him calmly “Since we've pleaded with you on this case, spoke calmly with you on this same issue, and even took it roughly with you, but you remained adamant..” his father still speaking as Donald cuts in “What issue is that, Dad?” He asked naivety “Young man, I know you understand what I'm saying very well.” His father said to him staring at his eyes “I need you to schedule a meeting with Agnes tomorrow. And you dare not question my order.” He ordered him “Dad, is that what you want?” Donald asked sickly “Yes, son.” His mother spatted “No problem. I will go up there, pack my things, and bid your house farewell. It seems I have overstayed my welcome here.” Donald said to the face of his parents. “If you try it, kiss your inheritance goodbye.” His father said as he dashed into his room Donald sat hopelessly on the couch in his room, looking lifeless. He stood up countless times, walking around with heavy footsteps, ready to speak his heart cry. My inheritance? How could Mom and Dad think of toiling with my inheritance, all for that ruthless girl? He shuttered. He was trying to wrap his mind around what he had from his dad. His cheeks were stained with furious tears. “What am I supposed to do now?” He asked himself, as he placed his hands on his head, taking a deep breath restlessly. Agnes was lost in thoughts after her mother spat the news on her face. She rolled on her bed ruminating on the words. She wished it never happened. “I should forget about my inheritance,” She said countlessly in shock. Still in disbelief at what she heard. “Could this be a joke?” She yelled as she broke down in tears. “How am I supposed to trade the love I have for Alfred, all the memories I have built for 2 years, for this good-for-nothing fool?” She said teary “I would rather pretend to love him, disguise a fake wedding with him, and get divorced after I have my inheritance.” She shouted Wait o. She calmed. She tried to catch her breathe She repeated what she shouted. “I would rather pretend to love him, disguise a fake wedding with him, and get divorced after I have my inheritance.” She said calmly “Wow. This is accurate.” She said jumping in excitement.
