PROLOGUE
PROLOGUE Decades ago, before crowns and bloodlines decided the people’s fates, were two siblings, Dogar and Nana. They were born of the same flame, guardians entrusted with the task of maintaining the balance of the world's energies, light and darkness. Not until a restless thought began to consume Dogar. His heart grew heavier everyday. “How much longer must we follow our father’s pattern?” he asked again, pacing back and forth. Nana looked up from her kneading, confusion written all over her face as he continued, “What if our understanding of good and evil is wrong Nana?” His voice trembled. “I mean we could reshape this world. Rule it by our design, not by what we were taught." Nana’s hand froze, as she scoffed. “We can't do that, Dogar. Our role is to protect the world, not bend it to our will. I keep saying this to you!” “Well, I refuse to follow the rules anymore!” He screamed. Nana’s heart clenched as fear coursed through her veins. She stepped forward, rubbing his shoulders to calm his nerves. She knew combining their powers would have catastrophic consequences if misused likewise being against each other. “Dogar…please” But he silenced her with a nudge as he exited the room. Dogar’s mind was made up, blinded by his hunger for dominance that he refused to see the repercussions. He had grown tired of Nana's constant caution and rules, her refusal to embrace his vision. So, he decided to embark on his plan alone. He sought the knowledge hidden in the Book of shadows and summoned dark energies from the ancient book. He followed the instructions, using a mixture of his and Nana's blood to create a potion. Nana, on the other hand sensed her brother was going to do something crazy but didn’t realize how soon. Dogar already tricked her into drinking from a spiked cup. Darkness swallowed her, pulling her into a deep sleep. As she laid unconscious, he combined her blood with his to create a dark ritual, calling upon the different forces of nature to bend to his demands. By the time nana regained consciousness, the world was in chaos. The earth trembled, rivers boiled and the skies covered in darkness. "Dogar, what have you done?" She screamed in despair, her voice breaking. The ritual had released a destructive energy that was threatening to destroy the world. Left with no choice and a heavy heart, Nana acted. She summoned every ounce of her own powers to cast a reversal spell, binding her brother and restricting his influence, as she sends him deep into the forest. Nana knew a day like this would come and had also prepared as well. The ritual exhausted her, but it was necessary to prevent further destruction, so she buried the book of shadows, hiding it from those who might want to misuse its terrible powers. The battle left Nana wounded, not only in flesh but in spirit. She was unable to bear the burden of the guilt of confining her own brother and the consequences of his actions that she made the difficult decision to leave her world and seek solace in the land of the humans. In this new land, Nana found peace amongst humans as she grew fond of a young orphan girl named Elara. As Elara grew older, Nana watched over her, protecting her like a mother would. In time, she married and bore a daughter, Anvira, before passing away a few years later. Nana was now left with the responsibility of Anvira, and she continued her watchful guardianship, teaching her the ways of life. ----------------------- However, in a distant kingdom, ambition and age twisted the heart of a powerful king. He had seven wives, each bearing him only daughters, with no son to inherit the throne and his health was deteriorating. In desperation he decreed: the first granddaughter to bear a son would claim the crown. The competition for the throne intensified amongst them. Except for Lyra. She was uninterested in her father’s politics because she had fallen deeply in love with a vampire. She knew it was forbidden by tradition. Lyra never cared, her grandfather had many daughters to bear him a son, she loved and wanted only him. Lyra decided to use deceit, claiming she was already pregnant to force their union. The king was in rage and asked her to stay far away from his sight. Unfortunately, Lyra was the first to bear a son who she named Kael. He was an abomination. This made him an unlikely candidate for the throne, according to the tradition. When the king heard of this, he requested they returned to the palace mind. He was going to scrape the tradition for his only grandson. This was his heir and his decision was final. The conflict escalated when Mina, another granddaughter, gave birth to another boy, Ryker a few years later. The king was overjoyed at the opportunity of a pure-blooded heir but had already grown accustomed to the young boy, Kael, whom he loved so much and was grooming for the throne. This sparked a bitter rivalry between Lyra and Mina, with their sons at the center of the dispute until the king passed away.
