Anna POV
As I stand on the beach feeling the sand beneath my feet I look at how the waves crash against the boulders. With each wave I see I imagine that, that is my problems being crushed and that I will go home feeling like a new person.
‘I wish I could just stay here forever.’ I thought looking up at the clear sky.
I will explain what happened the day I got my arm cast taken off which is a week ago. So Damien and I had a small fight because he is lying to me and hiding stuff from me, and his answer is always the same. “I cannot tell you everything.” And that is frustrating as hell if you have a curious personality like I do. so i ended up telling him to just leave me alone and that I don’t want to see him again. What else can I do? I am tired of him always being around and never explain how he finds me or why he keeps following me and I know it’s not to keep me safe.
When I got back to the hotel room I walked into my very angry mother. And when she saw the arm cast is off she looked more sad than man, and I don’t know why.
She ended up ignoring me for the rest of the night.
Jessy still hasn’t spoken to me and Andy is over loving which is very strange.
“Anna?” I heard my mother call from behind me and I turned around. I saw her packing up folding the towels and now waiting for me. I made my way over to her and let me tell you these crutches on this sand is a nightmare.
“honey are you okay?” my mother asked as we make our way back to the hotel.
“yes mom I’m fine just sad to go home today.” I said with a pout.
“we can come here every year if you want to.” My mom said and my smile grew. I looked at her and nodded my head vigorously. “yes, yes, yes.” I said and saw she too has a smile on her face.
We showered and gathered our things and we left. We stopped at reception for a minute and then we left to the car which was already waiting for us, Perks of staying in a five star hotel right.
The same boy from the first day ran over to me. “hey Anna.” He said smiling slightly.
I now know his name is Gavin. “hey Gavin.” I said knowing my mother is staring at me.
“travel safe.” He said and turned to walk away. I looked over at my mother and she had a raised brow and mouthed, “get his number.” I shook my head and she crossed her arms.
I sighed, “hey Gavin can I have your number?” I asked and I wouldn’t have to ask twice.
He handed me his phone and I handed him mine and we exchanged numbers. “okay, I have a boyfriend so this will only be a friendship.” I said making sure he understands.
I saw a sad smile grace his lips before he replaced it with a fake happy smile. He nodded his head and left.
I got in the car and groaned. “where is Damien?” my mother asked looking at me.
I shrugged my shoulders and said, “I don’t know and I don’t care.”
My mom got into the car and our journey began.
“mom please don’t tell Andy that Damien was there.” I asked my mother looking at her pleadingly.
“Anna did anything happen between you and Damien?” my mother asked looking at me seriously.
“no mom. Nothing will ever happen between us. I just don’t feel like defending myself.” I said and looked out the window at the passing trees.
“honey you are allowed to have other friends even if those friends are male. As long as you know nothing happened then what seems to be the problem? My mother asked glancing at me.
I sigh and threw my head back. “I know mom.” Was all I said and the car went client.
“Andy POV”
‘what have I done?’ I asked myself pacing my room up and down. I was frustrated and I’ve been drinking and Dominique was easy and willing.
Ever since Daniel came into the picture things changed, Anna changed and I know what I did doesn’t make anything right. I sigh and sit down on my bed with my head in my hands.
Guilt is eating at me and I want to tell her, but I don’t want to lose her. I thought as I picked up my phone. I have been speaking to her every day for the last week and a half. Ever since Jessy caught me things hasn’t been the same. She has been avoiding me and when I try talking to her she just ignores me.
I get up from my bed and walk out of my room. I can’t hide in there forever now can I?
When I walked into the kitchen Jessy was there busy eating a cheese sandwich.
“Jess please, just talk to me. scream, shout hell hit me if you want to.” I said throwing my hands in the air.
She looked over at me and gave a humourless laugh, “I’m ganna lose my best friend because of you Andy. Screaming, shouting and hitting you will never compare to how much I dislike you right now. If you didn’t feel the same about her why did you lead her on? Why did you make her think you could anything other than friends?” Jessy asked looking at me with tears in her eyes. “I’m crazy about her Jess. It was a mistake and I didn’t mean to get you caught up in all of this. you weren’t even supposed to be home.” I said and looked at her.
“well my plans changed and I guess so did yours. Anna deserves so much better.” Jessy said as she got up from her chair and left the house.
I was left stunned staring after her. ‘she’s right. Anna deserves better.’ I thought and looked down at my phone. If I text her… no she is worth more than a text message. I reprimanded myself and grabbed my car keys.
Jessy POV
I left the house and drove to Anna’s house. I got the key from their neighbour and started unpacking the car. I haven’t spoken to her in over a week so I will give her a proper homecoming.
I set up everything making sure I didn’t miss anything and all I have to do now is just waiting for them.
They should be here in an hour since they have been driving since yesterday and then early this morning again. Even though I don’t answer Anna doesn’t stop her from sending me updates throughout the day. Every time her name pops up on my screen my stomach turns for the worst. I keep imagining she will send me a message saying, “I know you knew and you are no longer my friend.” Or something like that.
I put a banger up saying “welcome home” I set up the dining room table with Anna’s favourite snacks and cold drinks as well as finger food. I made sure to get more of those small cheesy pastries Anna likes so much.
The front door opened and Andy walked in looking like the walking dead. I feel bad for the way I have been treating him, but he might as well signed the end of my friendship.
I watch as he looks around the room and his eyes finding mine.
“I will tell her and you won’t be brought up. I will tell her you didn’t know.” Andy said catching me off guard.
“wait what? So you are ganne tell her today and ruin everything I have planned?” I asked my anger bubbling beneath my skin.
“no, I will tell her when I’m ready.” Andy said and gave me a sad smile. “just so you know I never lead her on, I really do love her.” Andy said and looked at me.
“Andy this is not love, this what you have is possessiveness. You don’t want to be with Anna, you want to own her because if you loved her cheating would have never even crossed your mind doesn’t matter how drunk you were.” I said as I walked closer to him.
“what do you know Jessy? you only see Andrew maybe twice a month and how sure are you that he doesn’t cheat?” Andy spat and got up from the couch.
“because I love and value your sister more than anything in this world.” Andrew said walking in behind Andy causing him to lose some colour.
He spun around and looked at Andrew who was staring at him with his arms crossed over his chest.
“the temptation is there staring at me every day, but you know what it’s a choice and I choose Jessy every day.” Andrew said.
“well I f****d up, how long will it be held against me?” Andy said raising his voice and throwing his hands in the air.
Andrew ignored Andy and walked over to me with a huge smile on his face. He sneaked his hands around my waist and claimed my lips. “sorry I’m late.” he said when he pulled back.
I smiled up at him feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.
Andrew and I spoke about random things passing the time. he was just about to lean in and kiss me when we heard Anna’s mom’s car pull into the drive way.
“okay everyone hide.” I said and Andrew and I ducked behind the kitchen counter and I have no idea where Andy is hiding. We decided he can stay because at the end of the day Anna is still his girlfriend until she breaks up with him.
We waited in silence for them to come in. we heard the key in the door and the door opened. We counted to five and jumped out of our hiding places shouting, “welcome home.”
Anna looked around in shock when her eyes found mine and I gave a guilty smile.
I walked over to her and hugged her. she didn’t hug me back so I pulled away.
She looked at me with a sad expression and basically fell into my arms. She let her crutches fall to the floor and threw her arms around me.
“I thought you were done with me.” she said pulling back halfway.
“are you kidding I couldn’t talk to you because I might give the surprise away.” I said lying smoothly.
She hugged me again and then Andy came up from behind her. he tapped her shoulder asking, “can I have one.” He looked at me pleadingly as Anna let go of me and fell into Andy’s arms with a giggle.
“guys these bags are getting heavy.” Anna’s mom said standing by the door. Andrew went over to go and help and I just stood there looking at Andy and Anna with a heavy heart.
The night went by fast when we saw the time it was past three in the morning and none of us are tired.
“so Anna was there any cute boys?” I asked wiggling my eyebrows at her.
She looked at me and for a second I saw sadness in her eyes but it was gone as soon as it came.
“nope, there were none, although I did meet this one guy he’s name is Gavin and he works at the hotel where we stayed. I actually got his number and I made it clear that I have a boyfriend.” Anna said and looked at Andy who is now smiling slightly.
“when are you coming back to school?” Andy asked looking at Anna.
No doubt to warn that B***h not to say anything to Anna.
“in four weeks. Then I should be back to my normal self with both my legs working.” Anna said and I could see the excitement on her face.
Anna was still fine the one minute and the next she started looking around as if she lost something.
“Anna are you okay?” I asked and when she looked at me she looked confused for a second and then smiled and said, “excuse me for a second.”
She got up from the table and left through the front door.
I got up to follow her and when I got outside I couldn’t see her I looked up and down the street and I couldn’t see her.
‘what the hell’ I thought as I went back inside and closed the door.
