Anna POV
I was having an amazing day at school hence the word WAS as in past tense. Everything was going great Andy and Jessy tolerated each other for me although I didn’t miss their death stares every now and then. I have received most of my marks on the work I handed in this morning and the teachers are happy that I am back at school.
And then it took one girl to ruin my whole day. We were having lunch and everything was going great and then Dominique walked up to our table with her gang and she flirted with Andy right in front of me again. I’m not the jealous type, but the way Andy stared at her and the fact that he didn’t remove her hand when she put it on his arm bothered me.
Watching the scene I diverted my eyes and looked at Jessy. she was busy packing up.
“where are you going?” I asked her with a sad expression.
She looked at me and smiled sadly, “I’m sorry Anna I thought I could do this, but I cannot.” She said gesturing around the table and then her eyes settled on Andy who is looking at her and then at me.
When Jessy left I looked at Dominique and said, “do you enjoy interfering in people’s lives?
“I don’t remember talking to you .” she said and glared at me.
“wow, your perfume really doesn’t hide the stink of your attitude.” I said and started packing up.
“well rumors has it that you and Andy aren’t together so I’m just stating my claim.” Dominique said and my head snapped up the same time Andy’s eyes fell on me. I stared at him and then at her and just nodded my head. “well I wasn’t informed.” I said looking at Andy. And for the first time he spoke. “Anna and I haven’t broken up, and you have no claim over me Dominique.” He said looking at her while removing her hand from his arm.
I got up from the table and stared at Andy. “are you coming?” I asked.
“in a minute.” He said and packed his things. Dominique still hasn’t left.
I turned around and left when I heard him asking her, “what do you think you are doing?” I smiled to myself and left the cafeteria.
I waited for Andy and he eventually came out. “so what was that about?” I asked.
Andy looked down at me and smiled. “I just reminded her of her place.” He said and smirked.
I smiled and linked my arm with his taking a slow walk to my next class. The bell will ring any minute now.
At the end of the school day when the final bell rung I was tired and worn out. Apparently Dominique wasn’t the only one who thought Andy and I broke up. No every girl in school thought that and the rumours just got worse, apparently I cheated on him with Damien, (the guy I danced with at the spring dance.)
I caught a few girls talking about me and I asked them, “where do you hear all these rumours?” and they just shrugged their shoulders and said, “everyone is talking about it.”
I walked out of school feeling down and when I saw who was standing beside my car I was just feeling hopeless.
I took my key out of my bag and walked to my car.
“I thought I told you I never want to see you again.” I said to Damien as I got to my car.
He smirked at me and said, “you are a woman and I am a man so why would I listen to you?” he asked standing up straight.
“what do you want Damien and how do you keep finding me? it’s creepy.” I said and looked around feeling all the stares.
“well how was your first day?” he asked like we are friends.
“we are not friends Damien and when I said I don’t want to see you again I meant it. so please just go away.” I didn’t mean to sound so pleading, but I am exhausted from the day I had.
“no can do sweetheart, but I will see you again.” He said and walked off.
I unlocked my door and threw my bag in and waited for Jessy. she has been avoiding me since she left the cafeteria and I want to know what is going on.
I waited for about an hour and she didn’t come so I got into my car and left.
I thought about going home, but I drove to the edge of the town instead where I parked my car and took a narrow path down to one of the rivers. This river isn’t the biggest on but it has its own waterfall and the water is so clear you can see the stones at the bottom.
I just need some time to think and to be rational. I thought as I walked down the path.
When I got to the river I gasped at its beauty and saw that someone has been cutting the grass and some tables and chairs has been put close to the water. ‘a perfect picnic spot I thought as I went to sit down.
I don’t know how long I’ve been sitting here just staring into space and daydreaming about anything and everything. I looked around me and I was still alone yet I felt like I’m being watched. I heard a twig snap and turned my head in the direction and I saw someone walking out from behind a tree with their hands raised.
“I come in peace I swear.” The guy said and walked over to me. I did notice he doesn’t have a shirt on and only some basketball shorts that fits him snugly. He looks to be around my age despite the fact that he is built like a demi God with muscles bigger than Andy’s and a six pack with a perfect V line.
‘no Anna what are you thinking? I shook my head trying to clear my mind. ‘as if that’s ganna help.” I though and smiled.
The guy walked over and stopped a few feet away from me. “what are you doing here alone?” he asked looking around.
“doesn’t matter I was just leaving.” I said getting up and stretching my legs.
“no please I didn’t come here to chase you away besides you were so lost in thought that I feared I would have to wait forever just to get your name.” the guy said making me blush.
“if you give me yours I’ll give you mine.” I said smirking at him
He stretched out his hand and said “I’m Brody. And you are?”
I took his outstretched hand and said, “I’m Anna.” When my skin made contact with his it felt like I put my hand over a burning fire. His skin is so hot that I pulled away almost immediately.
“well Anna where are you from?” he asked sitting down opposite me.
“from town I’m a junior in Grover Lane.” I said seeing his smile grow.
“well that is amazing because I’m starting school there tomorrow and now I will know at least one person in the same year as me.” he said and I gasped. This demi God is going to our school the same school in which Dominique is in.
I laughed and got up, “well good luck Brody.” I said and started walking off I was stopped when I saw Damien walking over and said, “you have got to be kidding.”
Brody was at my side looking in the direction I’m staring at. “Anna are you okay?” Brody asked looking at me funny.
“yes I’m fine. I have to go.” I said and walked off.
“without saying goodbye?” Brody asked with a fake sad smile.
“what is the use when I will see you again tomorrow?” I asked and smiled.
When I turned around Damien gave me a shock so I screeched and jumped back.
“don’t say anything he can’t see me nor hear me.” Damien said with a scowl on his face.
I looked at him confused and then Brody was in front of me literally standing where Damien is standing. She shivered and then looked at me questioningly. “what is wrong?” he asked looking concerned.
“nothing a spider ran over my foot.” I said and he laughed.
“girls and spiders.” He said and shook his head. “come I’ll walk you back.”
“no it’s okay I’ll be fine.” I said and looked up at Damien still scolding.
“okay then.” Brody said and I walked off.
When I got to my car Damien looked at me and he didn’t seem pleased. “you really need to choose better company.” He said and I just looked at him.
“and you need to leave me alone.” I threw back at him watching his eyes narrow.
He took a step closer and I took one step back hitting my back against my car. Damien put his hands on either side of my head caging me and said, “when will you get it in your head? I cannot leave you alone Anna.” He said lowering his head until his I could feel his breath on my ear, “even if I wanted to I can’t.” he said and sighed. He came up shaking his head.
“you don’t understand.” He said looking at me, and I could see so many emotions behind his green eyes. “then explain it to me.” I said laying my hand on his chest. For a second his eyes went wide and he just stared at me.
“I can’t.” he breathed out and closed his eyes.
I don’t know what is happening to me because when I touched Damien I felt this pull stronger than the one I felt when he hid me from Jessy the night I came back. I could see her looking around, but she couldn’t see me.
“Damien I need some answers because it feels like I’m going crazy.” I said lowering my hand to my side.
“and you will have your answers soon dear Anna.” Damien said and looked around. “we’ve been followed.” He said and just then Brody came out of the woods.
“Brody?” I asked looking at him. he looked at me and then looked around.
“I just had to make sure you are safe.” He said and walked closer. “Who are you talking to?” he asked looking around. I looked up at Damien and he is just shaking his head.
“no one. I was on the phone.” I said and took the earpiece out showing it to him. ‘luckily I always have this on when I go somewhere.’ I thought and looking at him. he doesn’t look like he is believing me, but he didn’t say anything.
“thank you for making sure I’m fine. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I said and got into my car and drove home.
Everything is just getting weirder and weirder. I thought as I turn into the driveway. I walked into the house and the first thing I wanted was food. I couldn’t find anything I want so I just order pizza.
I took out my phone and dialled Jessy’s number. It rang about four times before she picked up.
“hey Anna.” She said
“what the hell is going on?” I asked not feeling up for any more lies. I heard her sigh through the phone and then she said,
“meet me at Andy’s gym tomorrow night at seven I will explain everything. Ohh and bring a raincoat it’s ganna pour.”
“why there?” I asked confused.
“just meet me there okay.” Jessy said and I could hear her voice break.
“jess are you okay?” I asked
“no Anna I’m not, but I will be.” She said and I could hear her sobbing.
“you wanna come over for Pizza?” I asked trying to cheer her up.
“I’ll be there in 10 minutes she said and hung up.
I stared at my phone and wondered what could have happened for her to sounds like this, so broken and hopeless.
