Chapter 3: Heir To The Mafia

1081 Words
|Cassian's POV| The Evans Group of Industries was a multi-billion dollar name in the sector of private investigation, security, and weapons manufacturing. It all started when my great grandfather began this business during the second World War, and ever since then, the business had thrived under the support and greed of the American government. We made weapons to fight in their wars, and in return, they allowed our side business to go as planned. The truth was, that in the midst of all the money, the philanthropy, and the fame that came with being an heir to the Evans Group of Industries, bloodshed, mayhem, and destruction also followed with being the heir to the Evans Mafia Empire. As clean as we were on paper, our other charades were just as despicable and dirty. And right now, the mantles of being the Boss of the New York Mafia, and the CEO of my company, were both occupied by me. Which is why it was important for me to find this Princeton heiress before anyone from her parents' enemies could get to her. All the while, she had absolutely no idea that her own relatives had been the cause behind her plight. I knew well enough that it was Aldrich and Amber Princeton responsible for the plane crash in which his brother and sister in law passed away. And I had proof enough to put them six feet under— not that I would ever require proof in order to off anyone. But the catch was, that I simply could not use any of it or act upon my most carnal desires for as long as Ilaria Princeton was not safe and under my wing. I had made a vow and there was no way in hell that I could break it. I had to find her. The blaring sound of the blades of a chopper whirring in the sky broke me out of my thoughts as I looked up from where I was lounging by the deck of my luxury yacht, waiting for the man I was supposed to be meeting right now.The sleek, black yacht sailed through the blue waters of the Adriatic sea while the sun was mellow in the sky and a chopper circled above my yacht before finally landing on the helipad. Once the engines were down, a man, dressed the same way most bodyguards are, stepped down first. He had an automatic machine gun strapped across his back while he held his hand out for the woman inside. I was still in the lounge chair beside the pool on the front deck as I watched a raven headed woman stepping out of the chopper. She wore a black formal dress, the red of her lips was pulled upwards as she met my gaze and smiled in my direction in a manner that almost had me wanting to puke my guts out. She walked around the deck before taking the steps down towards where I was lounging beside the pool and as she came to a stop in front of me, the sun hid behind her head. "Evans." She said in a sultry tone. I looked up at her with what I was certain was a bored expression before I finally stood up and looked around my deck. The entire yacht was lined with highly alert mercenaries and men who would happily lay down their lives for me if I asked them to. This woman and her little bodyguard could be dead this very moment if I so much as even willed it. "Pearl." I greeted her with a curt nod, her red lips almost frowning at the cold behaviour that I was exerting. "You desperately wanted a meeting, now you have it." I said in a carefree manner. I could see from behind the shades covering my eyes that she was unhappy with my lack of openness towards her. I enjoyed that look very much, considering that there were not many in this world who spoke to this woman with such reservations. "You have been giving me a lot of trouble on the Eastern coast, Cassian." She said, almost sounding like a lover whom I had upset.I smirked, "I assure you, Pearl, that you are not the only ring leader I am keeping away from my side of the country." She pouted, which only made her look obnoxious, "that is something that I would never understand, why this do gooder attitude? You know things don't work out this way in our world." My lips curled into an icy cold smile as I shifted my gaze to the cliff top's surrounding the yacht on either side right now. "We live in different worlds, Pearl. I rule it and you are the scum trafficking women and children for blood money and drugs." I voiced, watching from the corner of my eye as her mouth tightened while her bodyguard dared to move his hand towards his gun. BANG! A gunshot rang through the air, followed by Pearl's gasp as she stared at the slight smoke flickering out from the barrel of my glock, and then, her bodyguard screamed. Blood oozed out of his upper thigh as he knelt to the ground groaning and grunting. "You bastard!" He snapped and I gave Pearl a decent grin while shrugging. Angered, she took a step towards me, her hand twitching to do something. "How dare you?" She breathed in an icy cold tone. I gave her a look of all seriousness, "look around Pearl." I murmured to her, my voice only a few octaves loud as I stared at her intently while she did as asked, taking in the number of my men standing attention, "you do want to go back alive, don't you?" I asked her softly. She seemed to understand as she humphed once before stomping out of the deck and towards her chopper again. The body guard limped after her like a forlorn puppy. "Stay off of my land, Pearl. The consequences will not be in your favour." I called out after her as I stood with a smirk on my lips while I glared at her all the while she settled back in her chopper and the pilot got it off of my yacht. And just when she flew away, something caught the corner of my eye and my head snapped in the direction of the cliff nearest to me.Someone was pushed down the edge. A scream. A woman.
