----Exposed----
***Lanie's POV***
I hadn't seen Alec all day yesterday after coming home and my heart burned with sadness. He was the one I loved but the events kept playing over and over in my head. Marry his son or Alec and my mother dies… I felt like someone locked me inside of a room I couldn't escape from.
Going outside, I needed to get some air. I couldn't think and the suffocating feeling wouldn't leave me alone.
A bird flitted over to me with a note attached to its leg. My eyes immediately went to the note while my heart pounded in my chest. Was it Alec..?
Taking the note, my hands shook as I opened it. My eyes glanced at the words as my entire face turned white.
A seal was on the letter of the four magic elements: fire, water, air, and earth. The seal of the Witches' Guild. The paper trembled in my fingers as I read it.
"Lanie Lockhearte,
By degree of Elder Redferne, we demand that you come back to the guild tonight to meet Blaze Redferne and discuss the marriage. If you do not come by tonight, we will find and kill your werewolf boyfriend and your mother.
The Witches Guild"
They knew. Oh goddesses, they knew. Alec's and my mother's lives were still in danger and they now used this as a sort of blackmail against me.
Tears welled in my eyes as I thought about how Alec would forever be in danger if I ever stepped out of line. All because of our forbidden love.
Alec was a strong Alpha but against a whole guild of witches, I feared that even he wouldn't be able to take all of them if they ambushed him.
My whole soul felt dampened and it felt like someone had put four large, soaking wet blankets on my shoulders. Was this how it felt to carry the weight of the world?
Letting out a sigh, I walked into the mansion to go into my room. Taking out some paper, I wrote a note to Alec.
"Alec,
I am so sorry that it came to this but I need to leave tonight. The guild has found out that you and I were together and now they are using both your and my mother's lives as blackmail. I love you, more than the air I breathe, more than anything else. I'm so thankful for the time we had together. Please forget about me, reject me, whatever you need to do. You'll always be in my heart.
Forever yours,
Lanie"
Folding the paper up, I packed my things and went to find my sister.
Seeing her, my heart stung a little. Would I be able to see her again or would I be trapped at the guild? Shaking my head, I tried not to think about it. It would make leaving harder.
"Sophia? Can we talk?" I asked as she turned around and came over.
"What's up?" She tilted her head but her demeanor changed immediately to one of worry when she saw me.
"What's wrong? You look like you're about to cry!"
"I need to leave tonight. The Witches' Guild has discovered that Alec is a werewolf. They will kill him and our mother if I'm not there by tonight. Can you give this to Alec?" I handed her the note and she pulled me into a hug.
"We will start planning to get you back. We won't let them win. I promise you." Sophia hugged me tightly. "I'll take care of mama so don't worry. We will get you back."
I pulled away regrettably, nodding.
"I hope I'll see you soon!" I smiled brightly, trying desperately to hide the turmoil in my heart. Turning away quickly, I practically ran out of the mansion.
"In Sindarin." I said as my body glowed in a forest green glow. My neck elongated while I went down on all fours, my hands turning into hooves. My mouth and nose stretched out as I finished transforming into a doe. Throwing my bag around my neck, I took off towards the guild.
Each step away felt like another dagger getting driven in to my heart. Each mile that passed, I felt like my soul was dying. Why me? What was so special about me that they would force my marriage to Blaze? Because I had a high concentration of magic? Surely, there would be another.
The bitterness took ahold of my heart like a poison slowly seeping through every artery.
Hours passed as stars slowly took over the sky. I knew I was getting close to the guild and forced myself to run quicker to get it over with. The torches flickered as I approached before ducking into an area to transform back and get my clothing on.
Grabbing my things, I walked up to the guards.
"I am Lanie Lockhearte. I am here for the elder and Blaze." I held my head high to show no fear towards them. The guards parted to let me pass.
I let out a huge breath before finding the elder's home. Knocking on the door, I was greeted by the golden haired man with icy blue eyes. Blaze.
"Lanie…" His breath was deep and sultry as he stared at me, almost like he was afraid he would wake up from a dream.
The next thing I knew, his warm arms wrapped around me as he hugged me tightly.
"I missed you, Lanie."
His voice held warmth and longing to it as I was shocked at the affection but immediately went back to my senses.
"Get your hands off me. You and your father have forced me to leave my lover and my family. I'll never forgive either of you. Now, please bring me to my cell because you're holding me against my will." My voice was bitter as my words were like acid.
I felt Blaze flinch and back up away from me.
"Please believe me. I was not involved in these decisions. I would have rather you come here on your own." Blaze tried to explain as he waved his hands up to signify he wasn't the mastermind.
"The fact of the matter is you didn't stop this. Now bring me to my cell." I snipped at him angrily.
His expression fell as he nodded.
"Right this way, Lanie."
