Chapter 8 After dinner, Dad washed the dishes while Colten and I finished our beers. We’d stayed to neutral topics for the rest of dinner with Colten filling me in on what most of our classmates were up to. A surprisingly large number of them were still here. I couldn’t believe they hadn’t all run like I had. “Well, I better get going,” Colten said finally, and reluctantly. “I’ll walk you out.” Colten shook Dad’s hand, then we headed to the back door.
