A Run in the Woods

What the f**k have I gotten myself into, Amber asked herself as she was being hauled out of Kade’s truck and pulled through the front door of his house.     She made a quick note of the layout in case she needed to make a break for it.  A well furnished office sat to the left of the entry way with the dining room immediately to the right.  Being pulled down further into the house, Amber saw a large clean kitchen was to the right, connected by an open doorway to the dining room, and opening up to a family room in front of her that screamed single-bachelor; it had a dark brown pillowy over-sized L-shaped couch, a 75” TV mounted on the wall, and what looked to be every gaming console known to man.     That means lots of cables that I could trip over if I ran through there, Amber filed away that information.  It wasn’t the tidiest, which meant Kade obviously spent a lot of his time in that room.     In the family room was a glass sliding door leading to what seemed to be a large backyard.  Amber spotted a built-in pool.     Ok, so let’s not run into the pool if I have to use the backyard as my emergency exit.     Swiveling her head around after being yanked to a stop, Amber realized that Kade had stopped in front of the stairs which were off of the family room where her eyes had been wandering.      “Will you stop already?  You ran from me before and I just got you back.  Stop looking for an escape plan,” Kade huffed at her.    “It was that obvious?” Amber chuckled.     “You,” Kade said, pulling Amber closer, “Are as transparent as cellophane.”     Pulling Amber into a hug, Kade rested his chin on the top of her head before he continued, “And, you’re not getting away from me again.  It just can’t happen.  This pack needs their alpha and I can’t be here to lead them if I break again; which, is exactly what will happen to me if you leave.  My wolf can’t go through that again.  If you try to leave me again, I’ll have to chain you up or toss you in the pack dungeons.”     “You can’t be serious,” Amber said incredulously, jerking her head back so she could see his face.     Kade let go of Amber and shrugged one shoulder casually, unreadable.     “Now, get your ass up the stairs,” he said with a smack to Amber’s backside.  “Just follow my scent to the bedroom and strip.  Your alpha needs you.  I don’t know how much longer I can wait before my wolf just comes out and takes what he wants.  I’ll be up in a minute.”     Sensing her hesitation, Kade gave Amber a gentle shove towards the first stair before turning and walking into the kitchen.  Feeling overwhelmed and needing to be alone, Amber darted up the stairs following Kade’s scent to his room.  A large bed dominated the Master bedroom and Amber took a hesitant step toward it.  She could tell what side Kade slept on by the slightly rumpled sheets and unused charging cables lying on the floor.  She walked up to what she now knew to be his side of the bed and looked at the various items he had sitting on his night stand.  There were a number of empty beer bottles and a paper plate that appeared to have been sitting there for at least a few days judging by how stale the leftover pizza crust covering the plate looked.  Feeling compelled to clean up the mess, Amber began collecting the empty bottles and plate when she noticed a picture underneath the mess.  Looking closely, she saw it was a picture of her that Tyler had taken the night of her high school graduation.  Taken aback that maybe Kade really had missed her, Amber pushed it out of her mind and brought her focus on her task at hand.  Turning around with her arms full of trash, Amber made her way down the stairs toward the kitchen in search of the trash can.      Amber stopped dead in her tracks at the bottom of the stairs, trying not to drop the garbage as she took in the scene before her eyes.  Kade’s back was to her.  He was shirtless and heaving heavily, his arms braced on the kitchen island, the muscles straining and jumping under his skin.  It looked like he was fighting a shift.  One meaty fist suddenly came up and Amber watched as Kade punched himself in the jaw.  She jumped and gave a little yelp at the sight, bringing Kade’s attention to her.     Oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t.  Something is wrong, Amber thought to herself.     He’s struggling.  Go to him.  Calm him.  Amber’s wolf told her.     Kade’s irises were no longer blue; instead, his eyes were the color of molten amber, just like his wolf’s eyes.  Now Amber knew for sure that he was fighting a shift.  She saw his canines peeking out, having lengthened slightly.  Not sure what to do, but giving her trust to her wolf, Amber walked slowly towards Kade, one hesitant foot step at a time.  He didn’t move but his focus had intensified on her.  Breathing slowly and trying to calm her heart rate, Amber continued walking toward Kade until she reached the kitchen counter.  She gently set the trash on the counter, trying to not clang the glass bottles too loudly on the counter.  Turning toward Kade, Amber took another step forward before a vicious growl stopped her.     “Run!” Kade shouted at Amber.  “Get the f**k away from me.  I can’t control myself right now.   Run unless you want me to hurt you!”     He won’t hurt us.  Amber’s wolf told her calmly.     “No, you won’t.  It’s ok,” Amber told Kade in her most soothing voice.  She was terrified but she tried not to show it.  Amber knew she needed to trust her wolf or things could possibly get worse, much worse.     “Do you want to be r***d?  I said get the f**k out of here!” Kade shouted.  He appeared to be losing the fight with his wolf.     Feeling a calm come over her like she had never known before, Amber knew neither Kade nor his wolf would do anything to harm their mates.  Instinct was an odd thing, Amber thought.  Being clueless, Amber had been nervous before about losing her virginity but now, she followed her instinct’s guiding force, knowing that it was the best thing she could do for the both of them.  She took a slow but sure step toward him.      “I’m coming to you willingly Kade.  You won’t hurt me but I need you to stop fighting it,” Amber said softly, kicking her flip flops off and tugging her shirt over her head before reaching for the button on her jeans.  Her first time would not be conventional by any means she thought to herself, because she was going to shift with him.     Having finished stripping of her bottoms and black bra, Amber’s eyes were drawn to Kade’s hands which were cracking the counter top of the kitchen island.  She had to get him out of the house before he tore it apart.     Turning around and walking naked towards the door, Amber held her hand out for Kade.     “C’mon big buy, let’s go for a run.  Let your wolf out before he destroys the house.  I’ll open and close the front door before I shift,” Amber stated.     Kade hesitated for a moment, searching Amber’s face for fear and doubt, before reaching for the button on his jeans and pushing them down his legs and past his already bare feet.  Watching in awe, Amber looked on as Kade shifted before her; his muscles bulging, his spine taking a new shape, until he stood before her on four paws.     Taking no time waiting for Amber to move, Kade trotted to the front door waiting for Amber to open it so he could run into the pack’s woods surrounding the little town the Black Alder pack occupied.   Amber opened the door and closed it behind her before shifting herself.  It wasn’t an odd thing if she had been seen naked while in front of Kade’s house; nudity was normal within packs since their wolves took many runs together.     Now a wolf herself, Amber glanced at Kade’s furry form and felt her wolf asking for control.  This was the first time Amber’s wolf was at the forefront with her mate present and she wanted to play.      Are you sure you want it this way for your first time?  If you don’t shift back right now, I don’t think I can control my wolf any longer.      The question rang through Amber’s mind, startling her.  Kade had linked with her to communicate while in his wolf form.  Amber had linked to others before while in her wolf form, but not often and never with her mate.  She closed her eyes at the feeling of familiarity Kade’s voice had invoked in her mind.  It was meant to be like this with mates.  She remembered her father telling her about this feeling of closeness when shifting with a mate.     Not bothering to answer the question, Amber took off running in the direction of the woods, careful to stay out of the streets and away from cars.  She knew her mate was chasing after her.  After all, as her mate, he would follow her anywhere until the day he died.     Reaching the edge of the woods a few minutes later, the feel of the cool dirt under her paws brought a shiver of happiness running through Amber.  She missed running through the woods, something she was unable to do while away at college.  The feel of her muscles stretching, the smell of pine from the tall trees surrounding her, the cool air rushing against her face and through her fur, it was magical.  And, to make it all the better, this time she was running with her mate.     Kade caught up to her quickly but didn’t pounce.  He wanted to play with his prey first.  He alternated between nipping at her heels while she ran and darting away so Amber couldn’t retaliate.     Just like a pup, Amber thought with a chuckle.  The sound came out as a snort from her wolf form.     I heard that, but I think you are the pup, little one.  Kade’s voice rang through her mind once more.     Forcing all of her strength into her powerful legs, Amber took off as fast as she could, running deeper into the woods egging Kade to follow her.  He let her run about a half mile before tackling her to the ground.  Rolling on her side to stand back up on her four paws, Amber shook the excess dirt out of her coat a second before Kade was on her from behind, his jaws grabbing onto the back of her neck.     Ok girl, this is all you now.  Next time, it’s my turn. Amber said to her wolf.  She gave herself over and took a backseat to the action she knew was about to take place.  The next time Kade took his mate, they would be in their human forms and Amber was couldn’t wait.
