Home Coming

The two hour drive back to the Black Alder pack territory felt more like ten hours to Amber.  She was surprised she hadn’t chewed her nails off during the trip.  She was scared to see Kade again.  Amber did not know how he would react to seeing her; would he be happy or mad?  Would he come find her when she got back or would he ignore that she returned?      “Hey, we’re here.  Are you going to get out of the car?” Tyler asked, pulling Amber out of her worrying.      She hadn’t even realized that they had pulled up to her old house.  She had been too busy twisting her hands and looking at her lap trying not to hyperventilate.     “Yeah, I guess I have to, don’t I?” Amber joked.     “Dad should be home in a few hours.  I think he wanted to go out to dinner to celebrate you being back.  Your clothes are still in your closet if you want to change or whatever.  None of your things have changed.  Dad made sure everyone knew the consequences if they touched your stuff after you left.”   Tyler was cut off by the sound of his phone buzzing.  He opened his door and climbed out of his truck as he answered it.     Feeling awkward being back at her old house, Amber looked around nervously then began walking up the pathway to the modest two-story house.  Tyler, no longer on the phone, jogged in front of Amber to unlock the door for her.  Walking in, it seemed so weird to see her old house again.  She always knew she would return to pack territory but for some reason, she never thought she would be back at this house.     “Want a beer?” Tyler asked, standing anxiously in the kitchen entryway.     “Yes please,” Amber said, letting out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.  “I need something to take the edge off for sure.”     “Alright then, let’s kill the rest of the 24 pack I bought yesterday,” Kade said while walking into the kitchen.  He seemed relieved to be able to do something.     A half hour later, they were both four beers in and watching a bad b-rated comedy, laughing together for what felt like the first time.  Amber was finally feeling at ease when a brutal knock on the door interrupted their laughter.  They both froze, Tyler pausing the TV.     “I guess that’s for me, isn’t it?” Amber questioned.     “Yeah,” Tyler inclined his head slightly before standing up and heading towards the stairs.  Turning around at the bottom step, Tyler winked before saying with a grin, “Good luck little sis.”      The loud thundering knock came again, this time seeming more impatient.     Amber took a deep breath before letting it whoosh out.  Feeling numb, Amber forced her body to stand up and walk to the door.  She couldn’t turn the door knob though, she was frozen.  She leaned her forehead again the door.     “Open the door, I can smell you,” a deep voice growled.      Kade.     Summoning her courage, Amber opened the door and just stared at the most beautiful man she had even laid eyes on.  Her mate.  Her Kade.  They both just stood there, neither making a move.     “Go to him!” Amber’s wolf screamed at her.     Before she could even recognize that her body was moving, Amber took a flying leap towards Kade, jumping into his arms.  Her body froze in his lack of embrace.  s**t, s**t s**t.  Why did she do that? Of course he didn’t want her close to him.  Of course he -. Kade’s sudden tight embrace interrupted her thoughts.  She breathed a sigh of relief.  Maybe he didn’t hate her after all.     “I’m so sorry.  I never wanted you to leave.”     The words came so quietly muffled in her hair that Amber didn’t know if she heard Kade correctly or if she was just hoping that was what he said.     “It’s ok.  I needed to leave to find me.  But, I’ll let you make it up to me if that will make you feel better,” Amber said jokingly, trying to break the intensity she felt coming off him.     Kade pulled back and placed Amber at arm’s length.  He looked at her, taking all of her in and making Amber feel like an animal at a livestock auction.  She looked away, feeling shy.     Not having any of that, Kade let go of one arm to grab Amber’s chin, forcing her to look at him.  As soon as Amber brought her eyes up to his, Kade crushed his lips against hers.     “You better damn well believe that I’m going to make it up to you.  That will make me feel a lot better,” he said, his voice husky and even deeper than before.  His wolf added a small rumbling growl, a dangerous sound, especially coming from an alpha.     Licking her lips nervously, Amber took a step back.  Kade followed her until they were both in her house.  Amber heard the door close and the lock engage.     “Um, Tyler is here.  He’s upstairs,” Amber said with a shake in her voice.     “I don’t care where he is,” Kade growled.     Amber’s eyes roamed the room looking for a distraction before landing on the remaining beers on the coffee table in front of where she was sitting earlier with Tyler.     “Do you want a beer?” She said with a squeak.     Amber was a virgin.  She had never been kissed before now, she had never held a boys hand before, hell she had never even been on a date or outing with a boy before.  She was completely clueless on what to do and it made her a jumbled mess of nerves.  Amber was sure that Kade knew this when a smirk grew on his face.     “It’s ok,” he said softly, taking slow steps towards her like he was trying to approach a wild rabbit ready to run.     “It’s been five years since I found you.  Five years that I’ve been celibate and I’m ready for that to end darlin’,” he drawled.     Kade’s eyes matched the intensity in which he spoke.  Amber felt like he was going to burn her alive just looking at her.  Not knowing what to say or how to proceed, Amber just nodded her head.     “I don’t know what I’m doing,” she blurted out.      Amber felt her face heating, she knew she must be bright red.  She whirled around and grabbed an open half-full beer off of the coffee table and chugged it.  She felt so stupid when she heard Kade’s full bodied laugh echo off the walls.     “I’m glad,” he said, causing Amber to spin around and face him once more.      “If you ‘knew what you were doing’,” he quoted, continuing, “I would pissed that you would have been with someone after finding me.”      His eyes turning dark, he added, “I would have to hunt down and kill anyone that touched you.”     Swallowing a gulp and suddenly realizing that her mouth felt dry, Amber just nodded her head again before finding herself being pulled up against her mate’s hard body and her lips being held hostage by his once more.  Kade walked forward, pushing Amber backward until the back of her knees hit the couch.      “No!” Amber gasped, breaking away from Kade’s kiss, and searching for air.     “I mean, not out here on the couch.  My dad is supposed to come home soon,” Amber added quickly as she saw her mate’s eyes darken in an instant.     His lids lowered once more and he nodded his head before grabbing her hand and pulling her out the front door of her old house.  Before Amber could even ask where he was taking her, she was picked up and tossed onto the front seat of Kade’s lifted four-door truck.     Seeing her look of confusion, Kade answered her unspoken question.     “We’re going home.”
