4. Michael Point of View

2302 Words
The rest of the evening was supposed to be filled with laughter, friendly competition, and the warmth of being surrounded by friends. Everything felt lighter—Hunter and Drake were playfully arguing about who could get the next strike, Liam was teasing Maya, and Michelle was right next to me, her laughter making everything feel just right. I was just about to grab a ball for my next turn when a strange feeling washed over me—a sudden chill that wasn’t just from the bowling alley’s air conditioning. Mateo stirred inside me, his voice sharp and anxious. *Michael... something's off. Do you feel that?* I frowned, my eyes scanning the room. The air felt charged, like right before a storm, and I noticed Liam stiffen as well, his eyes narrowing. Michelle, oblivious to the tension that gripped me, looked up, her brows knitting together in concern. "Michael? What’s going on?" she asked, her voice soft but worried. Before I could reply, the lights above us flickered, a strange gust of wind seemingly sweeping through the bowling alley. The atmosphere turned heavy, and I knew something was wrong. My wolf instincts roared at me to protect what was mine. Liam's eyes met mine, and I could see the silent command there. He was in full protective mode now. "Michael," he said, barely a whisper, "get them out of here." “Michelle,” I said, turning to her and trying to keep my voice calm, “we need to leave. Now.” She blinked, her expression confused. "Leave? Why? What’s happening?" I didn't have time to answer her. The main doors of the bowling alley swung open forcefully, and suddenly, a group of men in dark clothing stormed in. Their eyes were unnervingly intense, their movements too fluid, too precise. I could tell right away—vampires. My heart rate picked up, and I instinctively pulled Michelle closer, my body positioned between her and the intruders. “Stay behind me,” I said to Michelle, trying to keep my voice steady. “Don’t ask questions, just do it.” Michelle looked at me, her eyes wide with fear and confusion, but she nodded, gripping my arm tightly. I turned my gaze to Mariarosa, giving her a look that she seemed to understand immediately. “Come on, Michelle, let’s stick together,” Mariarosa said, pulling Michelle closer to her side. I could see Michelle's eyes darting from me to the strangers, her confusion evident. The leader of the group stepped forward, his smile a cruel s***h across his face as his gaze locked on Liam. “This seems like a good night for a little disruption, don’t you think?” he said, his tone mocking. Liam moved in front of Maya, his posture radiating authority and protection. “You picked the wrong place to mess with,” he said, his voice low and commanding, but his words were careful—he wasn’t about to reveal who, or what, he really was in front of Michelle. The stranger’s smile only widened as he looked around, his gaze brushing over each of us, as if sizing us up. I clenched my fists, my wolf instincts screaming at me to do something, to fight. But with Michelle here, I couldn’t just shift. I had to find a way to keep her safe without revealing everything. Hunter and Drake positioned themselves near Mariarosa and Maya, their stances tense, ready. The other patrons in the alley seemed oblivious, or maybe they were just too distracted by the strange flickering lights and the sudden chill. I heard Michelle gasp softly beside me as the strangers started to move, spreading out in a way that blocked all exits. “Michael, what’s happening?” she whispered, her voice shaky. “It’s okay,” I said, forcing myself to sound confident. “Just stay close to me.” Without warning, one of the intruders lunged forward, heading straight for Liam. Everything seemed to happen at once—Liam moved to intercept, his reflexes impossibly fast, while Hunter and Drake also sprang into action, blocking the others from advancing. Michelle screamed, and I quickly pulled her behind me, my body shielding her from the chaos. I could feel her trembling, her fingers clutching the back of my shirt. “Michael, they—what are they doing?” she stammered, her voice filled with panic. “They’re looking for trouble,” I said through gritted teeth, my eyes scanning for a way to get her out of here. I couldn’t tell her the truth, not now, but I had to protect her. “We need to get out, now.” Liam caught my eye, nodding towards the back exit—a signal. I understood immediately, grabbing Michelle’s hand and pulling her with me. “Come on, we’re getting out of here,” I said, my voice leaving no room for argument. She followed, her steps unsure as she kept looking back at the chaos unfolding behind us. Mariarosa and Maya were right behind us, and I could hear Hunter and Drake trying to hold the line, their grunts and shouts blending with the sounds of the bowling alley. As we neared the back exit, one of the intruders broke away, heading towards us with a speed that was almost too fast to track. Panic surged through me—he was going to get to us before we could make it out. Without thinking, I turned, placing myself directly in his path. “Get Michelle out of here!” I shouted at Mariarosa, who nodded, her face set with determination as she pulled Michelle towards the door. The vampire reached me, his eyes flashing with hunger, and I felt Mateo pushing forward, ready to fight. But I couldn’t shift—not here, not now. I had to keep my human form, had to fight him off without revealing what I truly was. He lunged at me, and I managed to dodge, grabbing a bowling pin from a nearby rack and using it to knock him off balance. He snarled, his eyes filled with rage, but I held my ground. “Michael!” I heard Michelle’s voice, filled with terror, and I glanced back just in time to see Mariarosa push her out the exit, Maya right behind them. Relief flooded me, and I turned back to face my opponent, determination surging through me. I had to end this, quickly, before anyone else got hurt. The vampire lunged again, and this time, I was ready. With all the strength I could muster, I swung the bowling pin, connecting with his side and sending him crashing into the lanes. He let out a snarl of pain, and I didn’t wait for him to recover—I turned and sprinted towards the exit, my only thought to get to Michelle and make sure she was safe. As I burst through the doors into the cool night air, I saw Michelle standing there, her eyes wide, her face pale. She looked at me, and I could see the questions in her eyes—the fear, the confusion. I wanted to go to her, to tell her everything was going to be okay. But for now, all I could do was take her hand, pull her close, and promise myself that no matter what, I would protect her. Whatever was happening, whatever threats were coming our way, I wouldn’t let her face them alone. Absolutely! Here is the continuation, showing the vampires retreating after failing to get to their intended targets, and Michael, Liam, and the others racing to find the girls: The vampire hit the lanes with a loud crash, and I took that split second to run. My only thought was to reach Michelle and get her away, far from here and far from any danger. I burst through the doors to the outside, breathing hard, and I found Michelle standing there, her wide eyes locking onto mine. There was fear in her gaze, but also trust—a trust that made my chest tighten. She didn’t know what was happening, didn’t know what we were really facing, but she trusted me to keep her safe. Before I could say anything, I heard the unmistakable growl of anger from inside the building. The sound sent a shiver down my spine, but it wasn’t fear for myself. It was fear for Michelle, for Maya, and for everyone who had followed me into this mess. The door slammed open again, and I turned, my senses still heightened, ready for another fight. But instead of more attackers, it was Liam, his eyes glowing with barely restrained fury. Behind him, Hunter and Drake emerged, their expressions similarly grim. “They’re retreating,” Liam said, his voice filled with frustration as he came closer. “They couldn’t get to their target. They’re leaving.” I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, a wave of relief washing over me. Mateo stirred inside, but it wasn’t from a sense of victory—it was from dread. Dread at the realization of who their targets were, of what they wanted. “The girls,” I muttered, my eyes widening. “They were after the girls.” Liam nodded, his jaw clenched. “They wanted our Lunas.” For a moment, a cold silence settled between us. The weight of what had just happened hit all of us at once. The vampires had come for Maya, Mariarosa, and possibly Michelle—innocents, our Lunas, and the ones who mattered most. My heart pounded as dread filled me. Michelle, who didn’t know anything about our world, had unknowingly become a part of a much larger battle. “Where are they?” Hunter demanded, looking around, his eyes filled with worry. “They took off,” I said, feeling my stomach twist. “I told Mariarosa to get Michelle and Maya out.” Liam’s eyes unfocused for a moment, and I knew he was linking with Maya. His expression shifted almost immediately, relief washing over his features. “They’re heading to Mariarosa’s car,” he said, his voice urgent but hopeful. “They’re safe for now, but we need to catch up with them.” I nodded, not wasting another second. I broke into a sprint, and the others followed close behind. The night air was cold against my face, the sounds of our footsteps echoing in the empty parking lot as we ran. My heart hammered in my chest, each beat a reminder of how close we had come to losing everything. As we reached the parking area, I spotted Mariarosa’s car—an old but reliable sedan—parked at the far end. The girls were there, Mariarosa in the driver’s seat, Maya beside her, and Michelle in the back. They hadn’t left yet; Mariarosa seemed to be fumbling with the keys, her hands shaking from adrenaline. “Michelle!” I called out as I approached, and her head snapped up, her eyes widening when she saw me. She flung open the door, stepping out of the car as I reached her. “Michael!” she said, her voice trembling. “What is happening? Who were those people?” I pulled her into my arms, holding her close, her small frame fitting perfectly against me. “It’s okay,” I murmured into her hair, though my own fear hadn’t yet subsided. “You’re safe now. That’s all that matters.” Michelle looked up at me, her eyes wide, searching for answers. I could see the questions in her gaze, the fear and confusion. But I couldn’t tell her the truth—not here, not now. All I could do was hold her and make sure she knew she wasn’t alone. “Liam,” Maya said from the passenger seat, her voice shaky but steady enough. “What are we going to do?” Liam stepped closer, his expression softening as he looked at her. “We’re getting you all out of here,” he said, his voice gentle but resolute. “We’ll head back to the pack house. You’ll be safe there.” Michelle pulled back slightly, looking at me, her brows furrowed. “Pack house? What’s going on, Michael?” I swallowed, trying to come up with an answer that would calm her fears without revealing too much. “It’s... Liam’s family’s place. It’s safe, and it’s where we need to be right now.” She looked uncertain but nodded, trusting me once more. I gently guided her back into the car, closing the door behind her as Mariarosa finally got the engine started. I turned to Liam, Hunter, and Drake, all of us sharing a look of understanding. “We’re not letting them get close again,” Hunter said, his voice a low growl. “Not to any of them.” Liam nodded, his eyes hard. “They crossed a line tonight. We’re going to find out why they came and make sure it doesn’t happen again.” I took a deep breath, my gaze drifting back to Michelle through the car window. She was looking at me, her eyes still filled with questions, but also with trust. I knew then that no matter what happened next, I had to protect her. I had to make sure she never felt that kind of fear again. “Let’s go,” I said, my voice steady, my resolve unwavering. As we moved out, Mariarosa's car leading the way, I ran alongside them with the others, our senses heightened, our eyes scanning the dark surroundings for any sign of danger. This wasn’t over—not by a long shot. But for now, we had each other, and we would fight to keep it that way.
