She Was Never Chosen
Episode 1: The Girl Nobody Picked Ella stood at the edge of the crowded hall, her fingers wrapped tightly around her phone as if it could protect her from the world around her. Laughter echoed through the room—bright, effortless, alive. It was the kind of laughter that came from people who never had to question if they belonged. She watched quietly. Girls her age stood in small groups, glowing with confidence. Their smiles were easy, their voices light. Every now and then, a guy would walk up to one of them—complimenting, flirting, choosing. Ella noticed everything. And still… no one noticed her She shifted her weight slightly, pretending to scroll through her phone, even though her screen was blank. It was easier to act busy than to stand there and feel invisible. Who are you going home with?” someone asked nearby. My boyfriend is coming,” another girl replied with a laugh. Ella’s chest tightened. She lowered her head, her reflection staring back at her through the dark screen. Her face looked calm—but inside, she felt like she was breaking apart piece by piece. It wasn’t just tonight. It had never been just tonight. From as far back as she could remember, Ella had always been the one left behind. The one people overlooked. The one who was “nice”… but never enough. Never the first choice. Never the second. Sometimes… not even a choice at all. “Maybe something is wrong with me,” she whispered under her breath. The thought didn’t feel new. It felt familiar. Like something she had told herself so many times, it had become the truth. Her stomach felt heavy, her chest tight. The noise around her suddenly felt too loud, too overwhelming. Without saying a word to anyone, Ella turned and walked out. Outside, the night air was cool and quiet. The city lights blurred softly in the distance, glowing like a world she didn’t belong to. She wrapped her arms around herself and walked slowly down the road, her slippers making soft sounds against the ground. Why am I never enough?” she whispered again. This time, the silence answered her. Until A car pulled up beside her. Ella froze. The window rolled down slowly. Inside sat a man, calm and composed, his eyes resting on her—not in a quick glance like others did, but fully… intentionally. It made her nervous. “Are you lost?” he asked. Ella shook her head slightly. “No.” He studied her for a moment before speaking again. Then why do you look like someone who’s been left behind?” Her heart skipped. No one had ever said something like that before. No one had ever looked at her like they could actually see her. “I’m not important,” she replied softly. The man leaned back slightly, still watching her. “Funny,” he said. “You don’t look like someone who isn’t important.” Ella didn’t know what to say. Because for the first time in her life— Someone saw something in her… That she couldn’t see in herself. And somehow— That scared her more than being invisible ever did.
