Lurch was up before the alarm. He’d spent half the night tossing and turning in his bunk. Thoughts of Kerry not the only thing haunting him. What little sleep he had gotten, had been plagued with dreams of total disaster at the foreman’s house. Entire walls that needed to be replaced. Entire rooms of furniture destroyed or full of mold. At one point, he dreamed that he wouldn’t be living in the house for a full year. He didn’t know if he would survive a full year in the bunkhouse with these men full time. Not if he had the opportunity to bring Kerry home and this was the only one he had. Finally, he gave up and just got up.
