Bushes and trees scratch at my arms and legs as my mom runs through the forest carrying me in her arms, my head tucked into her neck. I hear people yelling and dogs howling, but I'm not sure why. I can't understand what's being said. All I know is that I need to keep quiet and not to look back. All of a sudden, my mom stops running and places me in the back of a truck with a bunch of fruit. No one is around at the moment, but the sounds of yelling are beginning to get louder. She tucks me in between some boxes, pulling a necklace from her pocket she clasps it around my neck and says something that I can't quite understand. I looked into her eyes and saw tears falling down her cheeks. All I can see is sadness on her face, but I'm not sure why. I take a long look at her and begin memorizing her face. I feel like this is the last time I'll ever see her. I memorize her hazel eyes that seem to have golden sparkles in them and her long blonde hair that shimmers in the moonlight. She grasps my face in her hands and kisses my forehead for a long moment. The yelling is getting louder and closer to us. "Do not take this necklace off, Jade. Do you understand? It will keep you safe. One day you will understand why, but until then do not take it off. I love you my princess. I will always be with you and one day we will see each other again." All I could do is nod, and she kissed my forehead one last time before covering me with the blanket she carried me in and jumping out of the truck and taking off, leaving me there to watch as wolves and men chased after her in the opposite direction. All of a sudden, the truck began to move. I buried my head in the blanket and drifted to sleep. At some point, we stopped, and I was being gently shaken awake. "Little one, hey, little one, are you ok? Do you know where your family is?" A woman asked me. I looked up at her and gently shook my head no. "Can you tell me your name?" she asks me gently. "Jade" I said quietly. "My mommy is gone. She won't be coming for me," I said. The woman looked at me in shock. She then lifted me in her arms and carried me into a very large building that looked like a castle. Men and women stood at the sides whispering. I didn't care to listen to them. I knew it was about me. After a few moments, the woman sets me down in front of a large dark-colored desk with a large man sitting behind it. She whispers something into his ear and his face seems to soften, and he looks sad. She then whispers something else into his ear and he looks at her and smiles. "Lets ask her first and let her decide," he says, and she nods happily at his answer. He then turned his attention to me. "Miss Jade, how old are you exactly?" he asks. "I get to turn five next weekend. I asked mommy for a party, but then a bunch of bad men came in, and we had to run away. That's when mommy hid me in that truck and told me bye and ran away with the bad men following her. I fell asleep and woke up here. Mommy can't come find me or the bad men will find me. The bad men have hurt a lot of people. I heard mommy and daddy talking about it right before the bad men came inside. I hope mommy is safe cause daddy didn't make it. I watched the bad men hurt him and he stopped moving. I felt a bad pain when it happened, but me and mommy had to leave." I said to them. They stared at me and looked scared. The woman started crying and wrapped me in a big hug. The man wiped his eyes with a tissue and stood up. He walked in front of me and sat on his knees. " Miss Jade, would you like to stay and live here with us? We will take care of you and make sure the bad men never find you. Does that sound ok? " He asked me with a small smile. "Can I have a party for my birthday?" I asked with a big smile. The man and woman laugh. " I don't see why that would be a problem." The woman says smiling down at me. With that, I became the Alpha and Lunas' adopted daughter of the Red Moon pack. No one asked questions except my new older brother, Taugen. He is only two years older than me. Maybe one day I won't be such a burden to him and I can show him just how strong I can be. I promised my mommy I would stay hidden. As long as I am here I will.
