New Assignment

May stepped out of the still pretty crowded bathroom, with still, just her towel on and now completely dry from the bath. A blur of a teenage werewolf whizzed past holding to be the equivalent of her body weight in clothes. May slowly followed her through the small cottage down the hall to the bedroom. A beautiful crocheted blanket with little flowers would have been out on display across the king-size bed, if it wasn't almost completely covered by what May considered to be an obscene amount of clothes. "I'm sorry, I took so long. I really wanted to get something that you would like." Mikayla panted completely out of breath. She looked up at May nervously. A pair of cargo pants and a long sleeve thermal shirt with a hood caught May's eye in the massive spread of clothes. "I thought you might like this? It’s a team from New York. That's where you're from, right? From your accent and the stories Elodie sometimes tells," Mikayla said, holding out a baseball cap. May grabbed the cargo pants and the thermal hooded shirt from the pile. Mikayla looked a bit defeated and lowered the cap she had from her hands. A small grin pressed from May's lips as she saw the disappointment spread across Mikayla's face. May took the cap from her and put it on, watching Mikayla's eyes light up. "Yes, I'm from New York." "How long have you lived there for?" "65 years" "Whoa really! You look so young!" Mikayla exclaimed. "Died in 1981 and then turned, stopped aging then." "Yes, of course! So you can really walk out in the sun? Does it hurt?" "A little, it's just like a bad sunburn, so I try and avoid it." May slightly smiled a bit more at the teenager who seemed to be hanging onto her every word. It was nice to be looked at like that. But it twisted the knife in her heart a bit, because her eagerness and admiration reminded her so much of Adam. May walked out to locate Alpha Leon, picking up the blood blockers from her dirty hoodie pockets that was still on the floor of the lounge room. She tucked them into the cargo pants as she walked. Alpha Leon was walking quite fast back to the pack house. He was definitely angry. May could hear it in his heartbeat. Emmerson had shifted to Cypress. Emmerson was a wind runner after all. He's wolf is a lot stronger than your average werewolf, but a lot more demanding and required to be in control most of the time. It was said that windrunners were werewolves that pledged themselves to the earth mother. However, because they were born a werewolf, they were given a choice. The moon goddess design fate - normally including a destined mate or devote yourself to the earth mother's cause. May got the feeling that Emmerson only fell into the latter due to falling for Elodie, who probably gave him a sense of natural comfort since her family line was tied to the windrunners, as their guardian. A guardian was a powerful witch, who was tasked to assist the pack in navigating a world full of humans and territorial moon goddess werewolves. She was curious as to how the Windrunners met such a cruel end, no doubt the reason Alpha Leon, Elodie and Emmerson tracked down and then confronted Alpha Leon father's (the previous Alpha of the Silver Thorn pack) to find out what happened. Elodie will inform of the details later, she thought, as she quickened her pace to catch up to the two Alphas in front of her. "Ready for my assignment sir." May said as she got within an appropriate distance of them. "Listen!" Leon stopped in his tracks as he dealt with his rage, taking in a deep breath. "I appreciate your respect for authority, and the work, if you are able to pull it off, will really help our pack." He said focusing on keeping a calm tone of voice, but anger was still slipping through the cracks "But. Do that to Elara again! And we will test the stake to the heart theory!" He wasn't able to keep the rage contained for the last part. Cypress growled. "I'm not serious, Cypress! Calm down!" Leon hissed. "What is this 'work?' May asked. "You're about to see for yourself." They came up to the pack house. It was an extremely large white and grey modern mansion with large beautiful trees shading the corners. A black sedan was sitting in idle, waiting for them out the front. "Meet you there Cy" Leon nodded at Cypress and opened the back door of the black sedan for May. Leon walked around the back of the car and got in. The silence for moment was eerie. He must be mind linking the driver. She thought, an ability werewolves have where they can talk to each other wolves in their mind. Alpha Leon shuffled out of his seat and grabbed his phone, he typed on it for a bit and showing it to May. If anyone asks, you are a witch like Elodie you can just hide your scent better. Good job bring those blood blockers with you. It read. May softened her face and nodded. It made sense that he didn't want the entire pack to know that a vampire was here aiding them. After all it was only 6 months ago they were under constant attack by vampires. Alpha Leon would have had a great deal of trouble trying to persuade everyone that this one was okay. The car pulled up to a large building with a huge silver sign running across a brick wall: 'Silver Thorn High School'. If he wants me to teach puberty-run teenage werewolves, I would rather count grains of sands, she thought. As the car pulled up and Leon let her out of the car, she didn't smell as many teenagers as what she would have expected, but many many wolves of all different ages. "Since the disappearance of Alpha Dolan Thistle from the Southern Shadow pack" Leon started to inform her, as they walked towards the main building. "We've had wolves come over to us, asking for residency and to be accepted into our pack. I want to accept them. Let them out into the community. But from what I have seen their current Alpha Dorothy do. I just don't know if I can trust them. Which pains me. I won't split up families. But I have been housing them here as best as we can. Because they just refuse to go back, even to wait for our decision. Are you able to compel a good number of them just so we know the truth?" "Of course. I must warn you, though lots of compulsion is a lot of work, I will need to… feed after 3 or 4."May flinched at her using that word. She knew the taboo around it, especially with humans and werewolves. "When I say feed I mean via intravenous." She quickly clarified, to ensure that she didn't gross him out, too much. "Ahh… hmm.. Okay" "I have some in Elodie's and Emmerson's fridge, if you need time to organize the rest." She informed him "Deal, human right? I'll be able to get it for you. This way. " He directed her through the school grounds. The school was quite luxurious, nothing like the school May had seen in passing, never mind the one she actually attended decades ago. That was on another planet compared to this. Beautiful gardens, large courtyards. Clean modern architecture They walked up a flight of concrete stairs that stretched the entire length of a massive building. Leon pushed open one of the many double doors. Inside what used to be the school's extremely large hall with three different basketball courts. Was filled with bunk beds and at least 200 people, well werewolves. Families with young children, with old children, elderly couples, young, old and all in-between. May even heard the cry of a baby. "Leon" May said with a gasp. It was the first time she didn't use his title. "I know, I know, I don't like it either. But they aren't locked in here. They can leave whenever they like. But I can't let them unsupervised in the community. I need to protect my Elara, our pack. Ugh this is so hard. So I'm glad you are here! You can at least get some light as to what is going on over there and why they have come over. They just don't seem to want to talk about it. I think something terrible has happened as they worry if they say it out loud it will follow them here too. " "I'm happy to help. Who shall we talk to first?"
