Chapter three

968 Words
At the Kingston Group, Naomi is replacing her mentor, Sara Jone, who used to be President Damian's assistant and is now around 55 years old. Working for Damian Kingston is tough because he is very strict and doesn't tolerate mistakes. He wants everything to be perfect and on time, and he has particular tastes for his food and coffee. Sara was his personal assistant, taking care of his daily schedule, meals, and personal tasks. President Kingston also has another assistant named Paul, who is about 35 years old and mainly deals with arranging meetings and appointments. Sara kindly asked, "You don't seem like yourself today. Is everything okay? Do you need any help?" Naomi's very professional smile almost disappeared, but she quickly got control of herself again. "Mrs. Jones, I'm okay. I'm just a little nervous about meeting the president in person," Naomi partly lied. She was anxious about seeing the secretive and mysterious President of the Kingston Group. Not many employees had ever met him directly, and she hadn't either. Today would be her first time meeting him. Now that she would be working closely with him every day, she felt the stress. Everyone knew the president didn't accept mistakes. He was a perfectionist who had let go of many assistants before choosing Sara. Sara had succeeded because of her hard work and loyalty, and she had been preparing Naomi to take her place for over five months. Naomi now knew something about their president that nobody else did. Her life had changed a lot recently, and everything and everyone she believed in turned out to be false. She was falling apart inside, but she didn't want her personal problems to affect her job. She had worked hard to reach her position, and she didn't want James and her former best friend to destroy it. "President Kingston," Sara softly knocked on the door, bringing Ida back to reality. "Come in," a strong voice answered from inside. Somehow, Naomi thought she recognized that voice, but she quickly forgot about it and quietly went in with her mentor. Damian didn't look up from the document he was reading when Sara came in, and he didn't when she mentioned his new assistant. He knew more about her than he should—how her skin felt, the noises she made when she gave in. These were things he shouldn't have known before hiring an assistant. He thought about firing Naomi, but for some unknown reason, he couldn't do it. He knew it could cause problems at work, but that wasn't enough to let her go. "You know what I like. Show her everything before you go," he said without looking up, then focused back on the file. Sara, used to his ways, told Ida, "Please, introduce yourself to our president before you start working." Naomi smiled confidently, even though she hadn't seen her boss yet. "Good morning, President Kingston. I'm Naomi Kingston. I'll work hard and won't let you down," she said with confidence. When he heard her voice, Damian quickly looked up and their eyes met. Last night she had been a passionate and alluring woman, but now she looked professional and modest, very different from the woman he knew.He looked into her eyes to see if she recognized him, and he saw that she did, because she was clearly shocked. Her arms trembled, and she held onto the chair in front of her to steady herself, her face turning pale. She seemed frozen in fear, like an animal caught by car lights. Seeing her so upset and frightened bothered him, especially since he knew she had been wrongly accused and mistreated the night before. A strong urge to protect her came over him, which was unexpected, but he pushed it aside. "I need my assistant to always be mentally prepared. No partying or drinking on weekdays. Do you understand?" he stated, getting back to his usual professional attitude. Naomi felt more tense, thinking about the trouble from the night before. His face showed no emotion, not giving away that he knew her from the previous night, except for his remark about her behavior. As Naomi just looked at Damian without reacting, Sara became nervous, thinking that Damian was waiting for a response from Naomi. "She understands President Kingston. She doesn't party or drink often. She is a very smart and sensible girl," she said, trying to calm things down. She wondered, 'Is he talking about last night? Of course, he is. Why did I have to be with the one man I shouldn't have? How did my life change so much in just one night?' She felt upset. "Okay," he said and went back to work. He stopped staring at Naomi so hard. Even 30 minutes have passed, and Damian is still thinking about the evening he spent with his new assistant, who is likely his nephew's former girlfriend. During this time, she came into his office twice. The first time, she brought him coffee. The second time, she gave him some information about clients. Both times, he saw that her hands were trembling and she was holding herself very stiffly. She didn't look him in the eye either time. After finishing her tasks, she quickly left, which he found amusing. Now, they are heading to the Kingston mansion for an announcement. His new assistant is sitting next to him in the car, but she has kept a big space between them, which he also finds amusing. Last night, she didn't want to leave his side, but now she doesn't even want to touch him. He thinks to himself, 'This is interesting.' The longer he spends time with her, the more intriguing she becomes. The more she tries to avoid him, the more he wants to bring her closer
