For ten years I devoted my life to Leon Warwick, certain that at his Alpha Ceremony he would mark me as his Luna before the whole territory. Instead I walked in to find his arms wrapped around my stepsister Viola—and a fresh claiming bite on her throat, black veins spiderwebbing beneath the skin. Dark magic. A witch's spell forged to mimic a true mate's bond. I screamed that she was faking it, but Leon called me a wolfless liability and rejected me before the entire pack. The bond snapped; I hit the marble coughing blood while they cheered. Then he ripped my mother's Moonstone from my neck, fastened it around Viola's throat, and banished me to the Northern Lycan Ruins—a frozen wasteland where sending a wolfless female isn't exile, it's execution. But I didn't cry. I wiped the blood from my chin and warned him: "You have no idea where your strength actually came from. Let's see how long your pack survives without me." Because my dormant wolf is no ordinary wolf, and the Ruins they threw me into hide a truth that will crown a white wolf and bring the Warwick Pack to its knees.

Chapter 1 The Rejection
(POV Cynthia) The stench of the pack hall was almost suffocating. It was a potent, intoxicating mix of cheap bourbon, heavy musk, and the frantic pheromones of unmatched wolves looking for a mate. I stood at the edge of the grand ballroom, my hands trembling as I smoothed down the silk of my silver dress. Tonight was the Alpha Ceremony of the Warwick Pack. Tonight, my fated mate—Leon Warwick, the prodigy Alpha—was supposed to officially mark me and announce me as his Luna to the entire territory. But my inner wolf, who had been frustratingly dormant my entire life, was pacing restlessly in the back of my mind. She was letting out low, distressed whimpers, scratching at my consciousness. Something is wrong. Very wrong. I ignored her, forcing a smile as the heavy mahogany doors to the main dais opened. The chatter of the pack died down instantly. The silence that swept through the room was thick, almost suffocating. I stepped forward, expecting Leon's warm gaze to find mine in the crowd, expecting him to extend his hand and pull me up to the stage. Instead, the air punched out of my lungs. Leon stood at the center of the dais, bathed in the glow of the crystal chandelier. He looked every bit the powerful Alpha he was—tall, broad-shouldered, and radiating a dominant aura that made lesser wolves bare their necks. But his arms weren't reaching for me. They were wrapped tightly around Viola. My stepsister. Viola buried her face in his chest, her delicate shoulders trembling as if she were overwhelmed by the moment. But as I took a numb step forward, she turned her head just enough for me to see her face. A triumphant, venomous smirk curved her lips. "My wolf bows only to her," Leon's voice boomed across the silent hall, cold and absolute. "Viola is my true mate. The one chosen by the Moon Goddess." A collective gasp echoed through the room. Hundreds of pairs of eyes turned to me. They weren't looking at me with respect. Their gazes were heavy with pity, and a sickening amount of mockery. I froze, staring at the man I had devoted my life to for the past ten years. My voice cracked, barely a whisper. "Leon... what are you doing?" "What needs to be done, Cynthia," he bit out, his jaw clenched. His eyes, usually filled with a possessive warmth when looking at me, could have frozen steel. "You are weak. You haven't even had your first shift yet. You are a wolfless liability to the Warwick name. The pack needs a strong Luna, and Viola is my true mate." "True mate?" The words tasted like ash on my tongue. My gaze dropped to Viola's neck. Right there, on the delicate curve of her collarbone, was a fresh bite mark. The skin was raw and bruised from Leon's canines. But it wasn't a normal claiming mark. Beneath the surface of her pale skin, faint black veins pulsed like a spiderweb, radiating outward from the bite. Dark magic. Ice crawled up my spine. It was a coven mark. A dark witch's spell designed to mimic the pheromones of a true mate. "She used a spell," I stepped forward, my voice rising in a desperate plea. "Leon, look at her neck! That's not a mate mark! That's witchcraft! She's faking the bond—" "Enough!" Leon roared. His Alpha command slammed into the room. It was a physical weight that forced several Omegas in the crowd to their knees. My own chest tightened, my lungs struggling against the invisible pressure, but I bit my lip until it bled, refusing to submit. "You dare accuse her of witchcraft because you can't accept your own inadequacy? You're pathetic." Leon sneered, the disgust in his voice twisting a knife in my gut. Viola let out a perfectly timed sob, shrinking deeper into his embrace. "Leon, it's okay. Cynthia is just hurt. She lost her place... I don't blame her for being jealous." "She didn't lose anything because she never deserved it," Leon spat. He took a predatory step forward to the edge of the dais, his gaze pinning me in place. The entire pack watched, holding their breath. "I, Leon Warwick, Alpha of the Warwick Pack," his voice echoed, heavy with absolute finality. "Reject you, Cynthia, as my mate and Luna." No. No, no, no. The mate bond—a shimmering, invisible thread connecting my soul to his—stretched to its absolute limit, and then, with a sickening snap, it broke. White-hot agony exploded in my brain. My knees buckled. I hit the marble floor hard, gasping for air that wouldn't come. It felt as if someone had reached into my chest, wrapped their fingers around my beating heart, and ripped it out through my ribs. My inner wolf howled—a raw, broken, agonizing sound that echoed endlessly in my skull. Blood rushed up my throat, metallic and thick. I coughed violently, staining the pristine white floor with crimson. Every nerve ending in my body was on fire. The severed bond throbbed like a gaping wound that refused to close. Through the haze of blinding pain, I heard the pack muttering. "Good riddance." "A wolfless freak doesn't belong here anyway." "Alpha Leon is too merciful. He should have killed her for the insult." I forced my hands flat against the cold marble, pushing myself up. Leon stood there, looking down at me. He was entirely unfazed by my suffering. If anything, he looked relieved. Relieved to be rid of his 'embarrassment'. "Give me the Moonstone," he demanded, his hand outstretched. "It belongs to the Luna of this pack." My hand flew to my chest, covering the glowing silver pendant. "This was my mother's." "Your mother was a traitor to this pack. Her possessions belong to the Alpha." Before I could even attempt to dodge, Leon crossed the distance. His large hand grabbed the silver chain, and he yanked violently. The metal bit deep into the back of my neck, drawing blood, before it snapped. He didn't even look at me as he turned on his heel and fastened the necklace around Viola's neck. "You are stripped of your title, your name, and your home, Cynthia. You are hereby banished to the Northern Lycan Ruins. If I see your face in my territory again, you will be executed as a rogue." A collective gasp echoed in the hall. The Northern Lycan Ruins. It was a frozen wasteland beyond the mountains, a place where temperatures dropped so low that even a shifted wolf would freeze to death in hours. Sending a wolfless female there wasn't an exile. It was an execution. I slowly stood straight, wiping the blood from my chin with the back of my hand. My chest throbbed with the hollow emptiness of the rejection, but strangely, my tears had completely dried. The man standing before me wasn't my mate. He was a stranger. A foolish, arrogant stranger. "You'll regret this, Leon," I murmured. My voice was eerily calm, cutting through the silence of the room. "You think you are so strong. But you have no idea where your strength actually came from. Keep the necklace. Keep the liar. Let's see how long your pack survives without me." I didn't wait for his response. I turned my back on the Alpha, the pack, and the only home I had ever known, and walked toward the heavy oak doors, stepping out into the howling blizzard of the night. ---
