The Case

1388 Words
Gold’s POV I couldn't concentrate in school that day, all I could think of was how I had messed up and dragged my parents right into the mess. I took an excuse to visit the rest room and I have been there ever since. Who would have thought that I would count the number of pen marks on the door trying to get my mind off everything, my fingers were so tiny that I could no longer chew through them to hide all my anxiety. I was panicking, I was freaking out, I was slowly losing my mind. If this is what demented patients go through then I would like to consider myself as one because right now my breathing was abnormal. I feel my lungs pressing on each other, I was breathing heavily even though no one was chasing me. Lunch time came and I was still stuck in the toilet holding tightly to my legs. “Gold, are you in there?” I could hear Bennie call out to me but my voice had faded for me to answer. “Gold” she called again before I knocked on the door to signal her that I was in. She opened and looked at me pitifully. “You can’t stay in there all day” she said and grabbed my hand out of there to a empty class. “Bennie what have I done” I exclaimed facing a desk trying to hide my teary face from a passing student. “What did your father say?” She asked. “He is going to sue us” “For what, you were the one who was molested, everyone saw that” she yelled. “But he brought a video to my parents showing otherwise, I don’t know what to do. I have tried explaining to the them that the content in the video is not true but that is quite hard to believe” I cried out to her. “So your mom will be handling the case?. That's messed up, nobody has ever won a case with the Millers. Your mom is the best lawyer in the city but against the Millers? Not to kill your hopes but this is an already won fight” she answered. “You think so?” I could feel a cold shiver go through my brain and make my senses drown. “Everyone knows to never mess with the Millers” she added and I lost all hope. My mom may be the best but this was the first time she would ever be going against them. I began to rethink if she could actually win them. I didn’t know what else to think, I could see my whole world crumbling in front of me. Just then the bell rang for next lectures so Bennie and I parted ways. Dreadful hours later I was already on my way home with Elsa, my heart was beating really fast because I was about to face my parents again and see the disappointed look on their face. I could see Elsa running towards me with her bag in her hand, when she got to me, she paused. “Gold did you really do those bad stuffs as that weird uncle explained this morning?” I looked at my innocent sister's eyes and got lost, how was I going to explain to her that I did smash a bottle on AJ’s head because he was kissing me. At my age, I already had a court case. I opened my mouth to speak but I couldn't so I opened the door for her and she quietly walked in with no more questions. The ride back home was long and quiet, I found my parents still sitting at the position I left them earlier but they looked different, mom was busy going through some paperwork while dad was on a call, our arrival wasn't noticed until Elsa ran to them. “I missed you mom” she hugged my mother almost scaring her. “You are back, I missed you too honey. How was school today?” “Nothing unusual just lots of assignments to work on” Elsa replied. “Okay baby, the maid will bring your food upstairs and help with your assignments, go freshen up” she said without casting a glance at me. Elsa kissed dad on his cheek not wanting to interrupt his call and he gently rubbed her shoulders and back giving a very fast smile. I stood there for minutes but my parents didn't notice me, it was like I was invisible to them or they choose not to acknowledge my presence. I still couldn't believe what I had done to my family. I moved closer to them and greeted but all I got was a slight nod,mom immediately continued what she was doing ignoring me totally like I wasn't there but Dad stood up and hugged me. “You're sure the video wasn't the real story right?” He asked. “Yes sir” And that was it. No questions about school or anything so I went to my room quietly. That night was hell for my parents I could hear them working all through the night. Slowly night turned to days and then weeks, I could barely see my parents at home, Elsa was the only one I had left, the only time my dad calls is to confirm what happened. *** It was another Sunday when I took Elsa around the house to play cause the family’s tradition of going to the beach hasn't been working for a few weeks now all thanks to me. We couldn't watch TV cause everything it covered was about LAWSUIT BETWEEN THE MILLERS AND COOPER'S FAMILY. While we were walking around my phone rang, ‘MOM’ I was so surprised to see her call cause she haven't said a word to me since everything started so I immediately accepted the call. “Tell the maid to take care of Elsa and follow the driver to the court right now” she ordered me, it sounded harsh but I had no choice. "Okay mom" I replied in a disappointing tone it wasn't the first time I was going to court since the incident happened. I took Elsa inside then got ready and followed the driver, when I got there, I was surprised to see Bennie but didn't have time to catch up cause of the countless reporters so I went inside. I found Bennie at the stand and she was made to swear before answering the questions. My mom walked up to her asking the first question. “Miss Bennie Tom, from the evidence we've got you were at the same club with Gold that night right?” “Yes ma'am” “So you saw what happened” Mom asked. “No ma'am” she replied and my jaw dropped. “No ma'am?,Bennie what are you saying?” I yelled at her. “Be quiet miss Gold Cooper you do not speak in court when not asked” The judge warned me and I sat down quietly so Bennie continued “I was indeed at the club but I left early that's all, so I wasn't present at the time everything happened” Did I just here her correctly?, That b***h literally drove me that night. I covered my ears to not hear the lies she kept spitting out but then again I had to listen to it so that I could know how cruel a person she was to betray me like that. “No more questions your Honor” my mother returned to her seat disappointed and so was I, we were already losing with all the lies spew against me. All hope was almost lost when my dad rushed in. “I have another evidence!” He yelled raising his phone in the air. “Your honor, this evidence was not presented earlier so he cannot be allowed to speak” the other lawyer sprung forth. “Your honor, I would like to reapply for the submission of this evidence” My mother chipped in. “Bring it forward” The judge said and my father gave his phone to mom who presented it to the Judge.
