Chapter 1
July 6, 2014
"Raven!"my mom called, her face twisted in a nasty snarl.
"What do you want?" I asked, my mom and I had never had a good relationship and after my father had an accident and died, my sister and I were saddled with the responsibility of taking care of our younger sister and mother.
Our little sister was still very oblivious to the reality of our situation and we preferred to keep it that way.
"You stayed at home today, you and your sister have to work cause this bills won't pay themselves"she said and I glared at her
"I'm sick mum" sighing internally, I replied her and I truly was, I worked at a small cafe which paid a lot less than the work being done and since I didn't have my certificate yet, I couldn't search for a better job.
"I'm sick too but you don't see me sitting around doing nothing all day" she said while tapping her foot on the floor
"You sit around all day"I snapped
"Did you just talk back to me"she asked but instead of getting into a fight with her, I shook my head. She sat down, her face excited as she started down at the drugs in front of her.
"You told us you had stopped"I said staring at her in disgust, she turned to me with eyes that could kill and I knew better so I shut up and trudged up the dented stairs. Going into my room, I slammed the door shut and it groaned almost like it was in pain, the brown paint covering the walls were slowly peeling off into an ugly shade.
The phone ringing pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Hazel!"I asked uncertain
"Come over by ten"she said and hung up on me. The relationship between my sister and I had become strained, my mom had made sure of it.
An hour later, I was at a party with her and I was the designated driver. I knew there was a possibility that she would do this, she drank and partied when everything got too much for her to handle.
I signed when I decided I'd had enough, it was already 11:30 and I had managed to force her back into her car with the intention of getting her home. It was dark outside and I was thankful that there were barely any cars on the road to our house. Turning on the radio, I sang along to radio by Lana Del rey .
Everything happened in slow motion, another car crashing into ours, the windscreen shattering, the car spinning uncontrollably and falling on its back. I felt someone's arms encircle mine and a soft voice whispering sorry to me, blood pooled round my body and I screamed that blood curdling scream you hear in horror movies, my vision blurred and then a bright light flashing onto my face followed by different voices.
I heard the tapping of the rain on the body of the car before passing out.
