The Ball

As everyone took their seats in the grand ballroom, Damien's father, Dominic Silvester, stood up to give a speech. His voice boomed throughout the room, and all eyes were on him. "Welcome, everyone, to the Silvester Pairing Ball. As Alpha of the Silvester pack, it is my honor to host this event each year. We gather tonight under the light of the full moon, a symbol of new beginnings and the potential for great things to come." I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement as he spoke. The pairing ball was always a special event, where young werewolves could potentially meet their soulmates and form lifelong bonds. "As we gather here tonight, I encourage you all to be open to new experiences and to keep an open mind. Love and connection can come from the most unexpected places." Dominic finished his speech, and the room erupted in applause. The music started, and people began to mingle and dance. I looked over at Riley, who was already eyeing a group of guys by the bar. As we stepped into the grand hall of the Ball, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. The room was decorated with moon and star motifs, and the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling sparkled like diamonds. People were already mingling, their elegant dresses and sharp suits adding to the sophistication of the atmosphere. Riley nudged me, breaking me out of my trance. "Let's grab a drink," she said, heading towards the bar. As we waited for our drinks, I scanned the crowd, my eyes searching for any familiar faces. That's when I saw him. Damien, dressed in a sharp silver suit that matched his hair perfectly. He was surrounded by a group of people, laughing and chatting effortlessly. I turned away, feeling a twinge of jealousy and embarrassment. What was I thinking? I shouldn’t be looking for him. Riley nudged me again, handing me a glass of champagne. "You look amazing tonight. Them boys are going to be howling all night long for the daughter of Steven Wong." I couldn't help but smile at Riley's words, feeling a bit better about myself. As we walked around, mingling and chatting with different people, I couldn't help but notice that Riley was right. There were other attractive and eligible bachelors in the room, ones who didn't come with the baggage of the Silvester name. But my thoughts were interrupted as I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around, coming face to face with Damien. But it's odd, he's not wearing his silver suite, instead he's wearing a black leather jacket and dark jeans. His hair, usually styled perfectly, was messy and disheveled. "Hello, Astrid," he said, his voice smooth and charming as always. "You look stunning tonight." Damien's eyes met mine and I couldn't help but feel a wave of electricity pass through me. I blushed, feeling a rush of butterflies in my stomach. "Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself," I replied, trying to play it cool. He chuckled, reaching out to touch my arm. "Would you like to dance?" he asked, gesturing towards the dance floor. But before we could ever get to the dance floor, a girl approached us. She had long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. "Excuse me, Sir. May I cut in?" she asked, giving me a polite smile. Damien looked at me apologetically before turning to the girl. "Of course, Amara," he said, taking her hand and leading her to the dance floor. I watched them dance, feeling a twinge of jealousy. Who was this Amara girl? As Damien disappeared into the crowd, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment. I was looking forward to dancing with him. But then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kayle walking towards me. "Astrid, you look beautiful tonight," he said, giving me a charming smile. I forced a smile back, feeling a bit uncomfortable. Kayle, my dear ex-boyfriend, whom I couldn't help but feel a bit awkward around. "Thanks, Kayle. You look good too," I replied politely. "Would you like to dance?" he asked, holding out his hand. "I don't think so, Kayle," I said, taking a step back. "I'm not really in the mood for dancing right now." "You still have not gotten over that? I told you it was only physical-" My heart sunk as Kayle's words hit me like a ton of bricks. I had hoped to forget about his infidelity, but it seemed like it was still a sore spot for me. I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself. "Kayle, that's not the point." I said, trying to keep my voice steady. Kayle rolled his eyes. "Oh come on, Astrid. We were young and stupid. It didn't mean anything. Can't we just move past it? I really want you back." "I said NO." I could hear my voice deepens. “You would not call it stupid when you catch your boyfriend lying in bed, on top with another girl with her moans still lingering in your ears, and his c**k still inside her. You call it a f*****g nightmare, Kayle. If you even had just the slightest thought of me, you wouldn’t have done that.” Before Kayle could utter any stupid words from his mouth, Riley appeared by my side, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Hey, gorgeous. Would you do me the honor of dancing with me?" I smiled, grateful for the interruption. "I would love to, my Prince." Kayle scowled as Riley took my hand and led me to the dance floor. As we swayed to the music, Riley leaned in close to me. "Good job shutting him down, girl. Oh and did you tell him not to bug my phone anymore?" I chuckled. "No. But my Prince would not ditch his dance partner because of this, right?" "Ugh! I hate you.” Riley said, taking my hands and place them on her shoulders. “And try not look like you’re about to cry. At least don’t let him see it, the bastard doesn’t deserve to see it.” She whispered into my ears.
